Insomnia can fuck off

I know I'm not being unreasonable, I'm just hoping someone else is awake.

My 7 month old has had a nightmarish sleep regression for the last month. I've barely slept. She's ebf so I do 100% night wake ups, I have done since birth. I do 99% of the day time stuff as well. I'm EXHAUSTED. I've been walking around in a sleep haze all day and been ratty with my 11 year old and dp..

I went to bed at 10:30, a decent hour for me and I can't sleep, at all. I've been tossing and turning, doing breathing exercises etc etc etc and nothing and to make it 5000 x worse, dd is sleeping through, she hasn't woken up once and dp ofc has been sound asleep for hours. I'm downstairs now, I quit but my god I could cry so hard right now.

I trick myself when I get like this and I tell myself I absolutely must stay awake now..... I very quickly get tired

You'll be overtired by this point, you have my sympathy, sleep deprivation is my main reason for not having another baby

ImTheOnlyUpsyOne · 16/11/2025 02:09

I'm sorry for your insomnia. Horrible feeling when you know your probably wont be able to catch up.

I went to bed at 7pm after just having a rubbish day. But now im wide awake ....watching Netflix drinking peppermint tea. Got anything that will relax you?

MolvolioPortesque · 16/11/2025 02:09

💐 Lots of sympathy from me. It is utterly exhausting. I don’t have the answers, but you’re not alone and I hope you get some rest.

AutumnLeavesFallingFast · 16/11/2025 02:14

It's shit. But if it helps any. You're not slime!

envious of your baby cuddles xx

Tdcp · 16/11/2025 02:14

Thank you all, it's awful that you're all awake too but comforting.

Dp won't get it, he's a turn off the light and fall asleep instantly person. We're supposed to be going on a big walk today, I'm the only driver so if I don't go no one goes however, if I dont go dp and dd11 will go local and be out for hours anyway (they have a wildlife photography hobby) so ill be in with the baby and won't have any downtime.

Tempted to put the ps5 on but I also don't want to be caught on it as I'll never hear the end of how I'm tired because I pulled an all nighter gaming 😐

Don’t game and try to focus on rest not sleep. Lie still and comfy and hyper focus on your body. Everything feeling and sensation. I was the same and could cry with how mad I would get at myself.

StruggleFlourish · 16/11/2025 02:22

Hey there: just wanted to say hello to you and firstly,
I'm really sorry to hear of your insomnia and overtiredness.
I have gone through bouts of this and ugh...it's so hard!

And secondly, although you probably can't do this but can I suggest a really cool bedroom (like 9-10c?)
and a hot water bottle for your feet.
I find that helps me fall asleep faster

StruggleFlourish · 16/11/2025 02:26

I also find the sound of rain helps me fall asleep... probably it's the "white noise"...
Sometimes a pedestal fan running and blowing on my face gives a similar type of sound and coolness.

I'm really sorry that you're going through this especially with plans tomorrow.
I hope you don't feel too ragged.
Possibly the exercise tomorrow will help you sleep better tomorrow night?
🤞

Hey there, insomnia’s a horrible thing. I’ve been awake more or less since Thursday - I’ve had a vomiting bug, can’t eat and can’t sleep either. I’ve dozed a bit today, so feeling relatively bright right now. I’ve got the to on and Australian Ninja Warrior is about to start (don’t have any means of streaming anything in my room, so have to choose plain broadcast to). I quite like the Ninja Warrior stuff, heaven knows why; it’s not my usual thing at all.

Tdcp · 16/11/2025 02:35

I've decided against gaming, as tempting as it was. I'm on the sofa watching a film now in the dark with the cats.

We have a sound machine on with rainfall sounds as the baby is still in our room, unfortunately, I can't abide by hearing dp breathe / snore so I sleep with ear plugs 😅. I do like a cold bedroom but the baby really feels the cold, even at 19 degrees she's in a 3tog with sleeves and is still a bit chilly on her chest. Bless her.
I've been here many times before but it's been a long time since I've had insomnia with a baby! I remember baking all sorts like bread and biscuits with the elder dd was small... cba doing that tonight though 😂

Oh god that's horrendous! I sincerely hope you feel better asap. I do like a bit of Ninja Warrior actually, I might stick that on..

That sounds awful, I'm so sorry you're feeling poorly! Though a purring cat always makes life a little better. Hoping you're feeling better soon

Oh gosh yes, the temps I suggested are too cold for baby, for sure.
Heck, most adults would likely complain it's too cold too. (It is, but I love heavy blankets, weighted ones and down duvets...the wright also helps me sleep)

Yes, I've spent many a sleepless night trying to be productive in the kitchen.
Sometimes a nice warm bath relaxes you, too

StruggleFlourish · 16/11/2025 02:45

I'm in the dark with my cats right now too.
😺

Another insomniac here. I can’t sleep due to chronic pain. Am fed up with getting up so early but I just can’t lay in bed as it hurts too much. I average about 4 hours each night!!!! I am hoping things get a bit better but have accepted I will have pain and disability and just get through each day the best I can with a smile on my face and a stock response of “I am fine/ok”.
Hopefully your sleeping will get back to normal as your little one gets older. Can you have a nap when they have theirs?

LostittoBostik · 16/11/2025 03:39

i went through a period of terrible insomnia when both mine were babies - I’ve always been bad at getting back to sleep if I’m interrupted so obviously that’s all the time with a young baby. All that helped me was a cup of tea and taking Nuromol.

I’m awake now becuse my DD (now 8) wet the bed(depressingly not unusual) I had to get up and strip sheets etc. I’m now perimenopausal too so that’s probably me done for the night. I’ll be lying here worrying about everything.

SquirrelFan · 16/11/2025 03:46

Hullo, hope you have managed to get back to sleep, OP. I'm awake too with health niggles... but I remember the struggle with babies! And snoring husband... It's good to feel not so alone, though sorry so many are awake when they don't want to be - wishing a restorative sleep to all. 😴

FunnyOrca · 16/11/2025 04:53

Very much not an insomniac, but have an exclusively breastfed 5 week old Velcro baby who doesn’t sleep much and needs held when she does. We’re attempting cosleeping, but even lying on the bed next to me she can’t go more than an hour! She needs held for 20 mins once she falls asleep, leaving me, at most, 40 minutes to sleep. I find it hard to fall asleep knowing I’m on a countdown. It sometimes helps me to remember that even lying down with your eyes closed is restorative and if I can do that for 40 mins it’s better than nothing.

Regarding your walk, I would not go! I went for two long walks on Friday with baby, who slept the whole time on each (wrap is her fave place to be) and the physical tiredness from that on top of the lack of sleep ruined Saturday.

Fedupofwimps · 16/11/2025 05:44

I have been struggling with sleep, hence up for the day at 5am on a Sunday 😵‍💫
One thing that has helped is a Bluetooth sleep mask that my kids bought me! I thought it was a rubbish present at first (sorry kids, I pretended to love it as soon as I opened it of course) but I can put a pod cast on my phone and listen to that for as long as it takes me to fall asleep, if it is on low volume you would definitely hear a baby cry so no worries about sleeping through an upset child etc.
I think it tricks my brain into believing it is being entertained for as long as it likes but because I am in bed with my eyes shut eventually sleep wins! Not worked out what to do about the 5am wake times yet though.

CalmLemonCrab · 16/11/2025 06:30

I have insomnia too which came on after having a baby - it’s been about two years now of good and bad patches. What has really helped me is taking slow release melatonin and a word association game called Cognitive Shuffling… look it up! It seriously works.

IamnotSethRogan · 16/11/2025 07:57

Op i hear you. I've been sleeping pretty well lately but out of nowhere, have had 2 really bad nights this week. The thing that works the most for me is putting on a programme I've watched a million times. It stops me lying there stressing about not being able to sleep as much but also if there's a chance I can sleep, I will as I'm not staying awake to see what happens.
