Hi everyone.

posting here for traffic.
my nan had DVTs and clots so it's in the family history.
I've been having a niggling pain in the back of my right calf. It's not overly painful and doesn't stop me doing anything. Can bear weight fine, I can stretch it. Stretching doesn't hurt but feels a bit uncomfortable / tight.
it actually hurts more when I'm sat still but I don't know if that's because if I'm sat not doing anything I'm noticing it more. Pain comes and goes, it's not there all the time.

pain is like a crampy dull ache pain, it moves slightly around my whole bottom of my leg towards my foot and up to my thigh. No swelling, no redness, no hot skin to touch.
I saw the GP this morning who essentially said because I don't have any of the classic signs that they don't think it's a DVT.

I have had high d-dimers before but never found a cause. I know they're non specific.

it's just bugging me because everyone says DVTs can be a silent killer and particularly women don't often get the classic pains, so I guess AIBU to attend A&E essentially for a mild - at times moderate achy calf?

I have a heart condition (LONG QT syndrome) I don't think that makes my risk any higher IFAIK, I'm slim, don't smoke, not event surgery and haven't had chemo since 2017. I'm 31 years old. Also haven't given birth in 5 years.
it doesn't stop me doing usual activities.

if anyone has any experience I'd be ever so grateful if you could share. Thank you!

Hope you’re ok OP! I almost said are you sure there’s no urgent care in your area…. Ours is Haslemere 😆 they’re amazing there. I hope you went there instead of A&E just cos A&E sounds no fun. Also heads up you can go to OOH GP at Royal Surrey instead of A&E, it’s essentially the same just with appointment times. We’ve never had to go to A&E as always done GP at the RSCH instead - DS was admitted from there once.

Anyway hope you have a positive update!

Happy to dox myself here but I'm in Farnham - I avoid frimley park like the plague so usually go to RSCH but thought I might be able to skip the wait and go to haslemere so i called them and they said they can't scan for clots but anyhooooo!

ended up at RSCH, it was a loooong wait but all sorted. My D-dimer was positive but I do have a tumour in my lung (cancer dx in 2017 with possible recurrence now but it's a very very small tumour found as an incidental finding so think it's all fine)
they said that is possible what's causing my D-dimer. They gave me a blood thinning jab. Essentially they think my leg was an allergic reaction as it redness went away as quick as it came weirdly! I have blood thinning injections and I need to go back to SDEC in a few days to be retested and if the levels are no higher than what they were they are confident it's not a clot as the blood results weren't as high as they'd usually be with a clot so good news I think! It was only marginally above normal levels. I got caught in SDEC a few weeks back, doctor called me and told me an arrival time. 6 hours later I got seen so yes you're right, it's essentially A&E.

@youalrightthanks for checking in, I'm home and had a bit of a lay in which is good! Going to order myself a maccies breakfast and stay pretty horizontal all day as I'm shattered!

You certainly did the right thing, let’s hope it’s beginning to get sorted.

Perfect hopefully at least you're feeling some reassurance. Enjoy your breakfast and just rest and watch some Christmas films x

@GotSomeChipsAhoyIfYoureHungry I am so glad they are taking it seriously. DH had calf pain for a while, he went to the GP who did bloods and his d-dimer came back at over 10,000 so he was given a shot of whatever it is they give and sent to hospital where he was treated poorly. They decided it was just a result of his tumour and sent him on his way with gabapentin for neuropathy. A few days later he had a massive stroke. I have since found out the hospital did an ECG which showed the possibility of pulmonary embolisms but they also put that down to his cancer.

I hope things go well for you.

Did you go to Haslemere or an A&E? If I’d seen your post earlier I’d have said Haslemere just because the waits are so much lower and they can always send you on. Love haslemere!

When I was young (about a hundred years ago) Haslemere had a “casualty” unit…..that only opened 9-5 and shut for lunch!
