Have you lost 50 pounds? Did it cause loose skin as a young-ish person?

so far I have lost 40 pounds. Down from 170 to 130 pounds. Achieved via calorie counting initially and now I just stick to balanced, lighter meals

I’m only 5 ft 3 so still quite full at this weight. Can’t say I’ve noticed any loose skin. But I was watching a video of a female body builder who lost a similar weight to me and said that that had led to loose skin on her. Her starting weight was similar. I’m just very paranoid now! I’m only 30 and too young to have loose skin! I will say that I think I carried the weight fairly evenly ie I was still an hour glass at 170 with big boobs and a bum. So maybe that’s helped. Im scared to lose the last 10 pounds if that will do the damage.

have you gotten away with losing weight without causing loose skin?

I'm 5'2, early 30's and a few years ago I went from 10st to 6st, the only loose skin I had was on my stomach but that's due to pregnancy. It got worse the more weight I lost but everywhere else was fine

Maybe she has elhos danlos that can make skin stretchier than normal

Agix · 15/11/2025 05:42

I went from 16stone to 6stone and less (stopped weighing myself, eating disorder issues) in my mid 20s, 5ft0, and have lots of loose skin. It's quite severe, hasn't tightened up (nearly 37 now), didn't get a drop better with weight regain. Weight lifting didn't help a jot either. It's on stomach, thighs, upper arms, neck, butt. Uncomfortable and ugly.

I had noticed that the loose skin started forming after losing about 4st, but I had also lost it very quickly and don't know if that would have tightened up if I had stopped sooner of course.

Lovecatssowonderfullypretty · 15/11/2025 05:48

Yes. Due to an ED i went from 11 stone to 5.5 (also NG fed in hospital, do not recommend).

I noticed loose skin around the inside of my thighs, that was probably the worst. Boob's just deflated. Also stomach but suspect not heirs by previous CS and subsequent overhang.

Sallysushine · 15/11/2025 05:49

I'm 36, 5ft 4 and went from 11 stone 12 to 9 stone 2 (maintaining now). I do have some loose skin, mostly under my arms and my stomach. But only noticeable to me really. Hopefully you'll be ok. Well done.

Ladyzfactor · 15/11/2025 06:11

Was 185 now at 145. I noticed that I was softer and my skin was a bit looser but nothing really noticeable to anyone but me

Shmasherley · 15/11/2025 06:17

I’ve lost 100lb, late 30s. Went from size 24 to size 16 at 5ft 9.

I was very worried about loose skin; I have some puckering of skin but nothing ‘loose’ that could be pinched or grabbed or flap around, iyswim? But at size 16 I’m still very curvy and near the top of ‘overweight’ BMI. I wonder if I reduced to a size 12 which is likely what I’d be in the middle of ‘healthy’ BMI, it might be a different story…

I exercise regularly, am very muscular in my build, and take collagen daily, no idea if any of these have influenced the skin in any way.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 15/11/2025 06:20

I have lost 18.3kg and have nearly 10kg left to lose. My boobs are nearly non-existent now but I partially blame breastfeeding my youngest for the last 19m. I still have a tummy overhang but I had a c-section so that’s to be expected. I’m hopeful that’s it for loose skin but let’s see!

Ilovehighlandcows · 15/11/2025 06:22

I went from 14 stone to 8 stone when I was 27, and needed an FDL tummy tuck for the loose skin on my stomach.

Borase · 15/11/2025 06:27

Oh gosh I didn’t realise it with this common. Naively I assumed only people losing hundreds of pounds experienced loose skin. Honestly I might just call it a day with the weight loss then. I can’t say I would describe my skin as loose right now. I definitely still have a layer of fat everywhere but everything is in the right place. Was hoping to get a more lean physique though.

Edited

If you've not noticed loose skin yet, another 10lbs won't suddenly cause it, you'll be fine 🙂

Morecoffeethanks · 15/11/2025 06:42

@Ilovehighlandcows im sure you will be fine. I had an 8lb baby plus the water and placenta at age 30 and didn’t get any loose skin however when I had another big baby the year after I did indeed get loose skin. I was very tiny to start at 42kg so it was a huge weight gain and loss for my frame.
I would say just don’t keep gaining and losing and do it slowly.

Iamthemoom · 15/11/2025 06:45

I’m 5’3” and I’ve lost 49 lbs. No loose skin. My arms are sagging a teeny bit at the top but pretty sure that’s age not weight loss! I need to up my weights game to get them tightened up!

Chanelo · 15/11/2025 06:57

If you haven’t had any yet you’ll be fine losing another 10lb.

I think it’s genetic rather than age related. I’m mid 50s and recently lost 30kg, I have no loose skin.

Duechristmas · 15/11/2025 09:49

I'm 50, lost 100lbs and have minimal loose skin.
I think your genes go a long way to it, as well as losing weight steadily.

Ireolu · 15/11/2025 10:02

68 pounds over 11 months and no sagging but I think it's because of gradual reduction. I think too quickly is the cause of loose skin

JaceLancs · 15/11/2025 10:05

I went from 18 stone to 10 stone in my 30s over 2 years and did daily toning exercises - no loose skin at all
Put weight back on eventually (not all of it) dieted in my 50s and have some loose skin

Allmarbleslost · 15/11/2025 17:11

I've lost 5 stone this year and my thighs look like they're melting down my legs. I'm 45 though. If you don't have any yet I recon you'll be fine op.

mondaytosunday · 15/11/2025 17:16

Im much taller than you but I’ve lost as much as 130lbs without too much loose skin. Just a little bit upper arms and top of thighs, but that’s it. I was in my late 30s. There’s a big genetic component- I never got stretch marks either when I had my kids (who were both around 10lbs at birth).

Witchyandtwitchy · 15/11/2025 17:24

I lost 4st in my mid 50’s. Lost it over a year.
no loose skin apart from a bit on stomach, but that’s been previously stretched with pregnancies.
I went from a large 18 to a small 12. BMI 33 to 24.

FurForksSake · 15/11/2025 17:27

I think once your weight stabilises and you stay the same weight for some time it improves, I think. You’ll get fat redistribution and your skin does shrink a bit.

it won’t ever be what it would have been if you hadn’t got bigger and then smaller.

hipposcanweartutus · 15/11/2025 17:41

Well done on the weight loss! I’ve
lost 61lb this year through calorie counting and I feel amazing! I started doing Pilates classes and it is really helping with toning things up. I still have a belly overhang but I think that is more to do with having a Caesarian. I am concentrating on doing more tummy/ab work in the hope it will help!

MincePudding · 15/11/2025 17:45

Pot luck imo.

I was a large child and lost weight as a teen and got a pooch/overhang St around 16yo.

Gained loads in pregnancy in my mid thirties and shed 4 stone, from 13st down to 9st, and zilch. No stretch marks, change to pooch, excess arm skin.

Glad but annoyed for young me!

Emmz1510 · 15/11/2025 17:55

If you haven’t got loose skin by now than I doubt you will with only another 10lb to go.

Hotvimtoandwaffles · 15/11/2025 17:59

Loose skin after weight loss depends on lots of factors that are pretty personal to the individual. Genetics, age, diet, speed of weight loss, methods of weight loss! Nobody can predict the loose skin you’ll be left with accurately; and only you can decide whether being at a healthier weight with a bit of loose skin is better than stating at a weight you’re unhappy with. I lost 115lbs naturally over the space of 2 years, with calorie counting and exercise. I reached my goal weight at 37, and I’ve had two children by c section. I have a bit of loose skin on my tummy, supposed you’d call it the apron area? You can’t see it in clothes and I’d much rather have this bit of loose skin than be carrying around the 8 stone I’ve lost. I’d do it all again in a heartbeat even if I knew I’d had the bit of loose skin. I think it’s probably tightened up over the last year with more weightlifting and me staying hydrated but if it stays as it is im happy with it. I don’t have loose skin anywhere else x

PinkFootstool · 15/11/2025 18:00

I'm 90lbs (over 6 stone) down and I can see I'm going to have saggy upper arms, belly and inner thighs. The belly and arm I expected but the thighs are a bit horrifying 😂

I still have another 56lbs (4 stone) to go, so I'll be a bit of a mess tbh. But what can I expect by carrying an excess 10 stone for the majority of the last 15 years?
