Reactive HIV and HEPITAS B TEST

Anxiousuntil · 14/11/2025 18:36

my partner of 12 years and I recently got tested for HIV and hepatitis b and c. I've had negative results but my partners results have come back as reactive. We did home tests. My thoughts are now spiralling and im sick with worry that he's got HIV, hepatitis or both. The nurse has said that 9 times out of 10 when a person gets tested again, the results are negative. Has anyone experienced this situation?

Is there any reason you're so concerned with what 2 strangers decide to do in their personal life? That's quite odd if you ask me 🤔

Its odd you seem bothered so much about others responding to the post.... And trying to make it all about you

Mrsnothingthanks · 14/11/2025 21:12

I do agree that it seems odd that you'd just randomly decide to be tested after 12 years together. There must have been a reason as to why.

Its Friday night, is being an ass a hobby of yours on a Friday night?.

@Anxiousuntil With respect, you seem rather defensive that the question has been asked.

Lostuser · 14/11/2025 21:21

@Anxiousuntil no need to be so rude! You’re getting very defensive now.

Oh and I’m not lonely either 👍🏻

Really common. I work in sexual health, and about 50% of the blood tests I take in clinic are follow-ups from reactive home testing kits, and I’ve never had a true positive result come back yet.

The home tests are good, but they aren’t as sensitive or specific as venous blood tests. They look for a ‘reaction’, not a positive, and some people have funky antibodies in their blood that triggers that reaction, but it won’t necessarily be positive.

Get yourselves to a GUM clinic, explain the situation and they can help Flowers

Edit: I just caught up with the rest of your posts and saw that he’s already been! Crossing my fingers for you, I truly hope it’s just ‘one of those things’.

I did actually respond to one of the questions if you look up, I've answered the question already.

Nobody is being an ‘ass’

It’s a discussion forum, if you don’t want to discuss your personal life then don’t post it on a discussion forum

Is it unusual to be reactive to both hiv and hepatitis b?

Yes i agree, it does seem weird, but thats none of your business really is it?

Op to be fair , you've put this out there and im sure you knew youd get these types of replies and it is relevant as you are worried about the outcome. Ppl don't tend to be worried about hiv 12 years into a relationship if they have not slept with others but I realise symptoms dont show for years (after the initial set of symptoms that may show closer to infection) and theres nothing wrong in getting checked and there should be no stigma attached to testing. Testing is the responsible thing to do. Good luck and im sure and hope it all goes ok !!

Nope, I’ve had people come in for reactive results to both tests. How did he get on?

Hiv is more likely to be caught by people who don’t use lube (so get microtears) and who enjoy anal sex as the skin is thinner and more prone to cuts. It’s actually unusual for you to catch it from sex nowadays as the virus isn’t as strong as it once was. Try not to worry. If needed ask for a same day hiv test

Wonderknicks · 19/11/2025 15:28

Off topic but is this true? I've never heard it before.
