Not really AIBU but mumsnetters please help me! DD just turned 6 last week and was given hundreds (exaggeration but it was loads) of presents. All she likes is crafting and drawing and so that's all anyone gave her - she now has mountains of the stuff! She doesn't really play with toys, isnt interested in barbies, my little pony or polly pockets. I got her some lovely little schleich horses for her birthday as she loves horses but hasn't really played with them. What on earth am I going to get her?!

Clothes
Books
Cosy blanket/cushions
Selection of novelty bubble baths.

Dacatspjs · 14/11/2025 09:52

Lego or something so she can build her own things. If she likes crafting and making, that might work? Id get a mixed brick box rather than a kit.

takealettermsjones · 14/11/2025 09:56

What about some crafting/art classes?

Goldengirl123 · 14/11/2025 09:59

Tickets for a day out she would enjoy

Larryfell · 14/11/2025 10:02

Bulky stuff like dressing gown, slippers, clothes, novelty bubble bath, stuffed teddies, onesie, pyjamas and then add in books, headphones, stickers, board game (orchard toys are good board games brand at this age)

sleepylittlebunnies · 14/11/2025 10:03

A box of bits and bobs, she can make a stable for her Schleich horses.

Different craft items to what she already has, they can be brought out through the year.

A gift voucher for a pottery making/painting place.

Swissmeringue · 14/11/2025 10:05

Tickets for something? Or does she need a new bike or scooter? My dd is similar in that she's 7 and never really played with toys but but loves crafting.

For Christmas she's getting a new bike, then tickets for me and her to go see Wicked in London and my mum has got her tickets to the ballet.

caramac04 · 14/11/2025 10:07

Depends on your budget but if it’s doable what about a package of riding lessons? A stables near to me offers an initial 6 lessons on ponies for younger children.
A fabulous day out, experiences last longer in many ways than a gift to open.
Anywhere local that offers pottery painting?
Is she musical? Fearless? Would she like Go Ape type activity, I hasten to add I wouldn’t like that but two of my kids would have even at 6.
Can she swim? My friend used to take the family to the Holiday Inn for a pool disco session, meal and overnight stay for birthdays.

sleepandcoffee · 14/11/2025 10:10

Tonie box or a yoto player

AlexBrad · 14/11/2025 10:12

I often get tickets to a show/experience for my 9 year old which he always loves - have previously got tickets for musicals, escape rooms, ninja warrior park, indoor skydiving… there are good deals if you look around

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 14/11/2025 11:43

Rising lessons? I got Dts crafty ponies one year, with a voucher for HOYS and riding lessons. I

I’m a firm believer in limiting it to

  • The "Want, Need, Wear, Read, Eat" Rule: A classic, often used for kids, ensuring balance.
And maybe chuck in an experience if it doesn’t fall into one of those categories.
Swiftie1878 · 14/11/2025 13:10

A bedroom makeover?
Blankets, cushions, new lamp etc - all aesthetically pleasing and snuggly stuff.

Ariadknee · 14/11/2025 13:11

Books

bath bombs

a pretty apron to keep her clothes clean whilst baking and crafting

a new bell for her bike

coloured lights for her room

a recorder and a book she can learn to play from

Overthebow · 14/11/2025 13:13

My DD is 5, so far we’ve got her some easy reader chapter books at her reading level, couple of yoto cards, a game we can all play, a dress and sparkly shoes she wanted, nail art set, colourful writing book and pencils as she loves writing ‘stories’ at the moment. And then the craft and colouring things.

RabbitsEatPancakes · 14/11/2025 13:13

Building stuff- lego or magnatiles. Construction kits? That's creative in a 3d way

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 14/11/2025 13:15

Garden toys or outside toys or scooter or bike

Stuff for baking e.g. mug cake recipe book and mug

Something for her bedroom like a new lamp or clock or money box

Cuddly toys

DancefloorAcrobatics · 14/11/2025 13:16

If she's into art, can you gift her a day out in say London and a visit to the V&A ?
My DD loved the costume collection at that age.

ehb102 · 14/11/2025 13:41

My girl loves art and I now buy really good quality art supplies for her. Paint pens and decent paper and special pencils.

The Guardian is knee deep in its annual gifts suggestions mode, and they're always terrific. They do it in age or interest groups, and there'd be a couple that'd cover your daughter. No tat, but not all worthy, tofu-based stuff either!

Could you tell me more about the easy readers? All she wants to do is write and draw and I would love if she could start reading for herself!

I would love this, only we're in Scotland!

There’s lots of series that are marked as beginner or easy readers, we’ve been going through the rainbow magic series and she’s enjoying them. They’re longer than the books she gets sent home with from school but aimed at beginner level.

EleanorReally · 15/11/2025 10:41
