Walk to school today storm Claudia?

BadWeatherQuestion · 14/11/2025 07:29

Can anyone tell how bad it will be today in North London?

I have a 6yo and 4yo. 4yo not attending school temporarily for health reasons (not ones affected by rain).

The walk to school takes us 40 mins due to 4yo. 4yo does the walk both ways with me at drop off and pick up, so 2x 40 mins twice a day.

We don't have a car and my husband is away so can't leave 4yo with anyone.

How bad will this storm be? What's the chance we will get to school fine then it will be risky at pick up? Or is it just going to be just a bit rainy but basically fine?

I’m on the way into Camary Wharf, it’s a bit wet but that’s all.

HeadyLamarr · 14/11/2025 07:31

The forecast says bouts of heavy rain, nothing more troublesome than that.

Prelim · 14/11/2025 07:33

I’m on north London and there is not a bit of wind. The birds are chirping, everything is peaceful. There aren’t any high winds predicted here today according to my app. Winds are predicted to be 11mph at the most which is not a high wind. A high wind is over 30mph, so you and your family will be fine. It’s looking like a good day for a walk!!

BadWeatherQuestion · 14/11/2025 07:34

So just heavy rain but manageable for a 4 year old to be out for over an hour walk twice?

It’s just normal autumn rain. The Spanish named the storm not us. We had a lot of rain from yesterday, bit of localised flooding late last night when I was driving (sw England) but nothing out of the ordinary. Biggest issue are drains blocked by leaves

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 14/11/2025 07:35

Its just a bit of rain….. wouldn’t even call it a storm. Yabu.

BadWeatherQuestion · 14/11/2025 07:36

Okay thanks, so should be fine if a bit soggy

Unreasonable to ask about the weather?

Public transport?

edwinbear · 14/11/2025 07:38

It’s not especially heavy rain in Canary Wharf. Coat & wellies and you’ll be fine!

Westfacing · 14/11/2025 07:39

It's wet and gloomy but no wind at present in London - the forecast on BBC Weather is for heavy rain and a 'gentle breeze'

MrsMuffinCakes · 14/11/2025 07:40

You won’t get soggy if you have appropriate outerwear, which you should have if you’re walking to and from school everyday.

It sounds like you’re just looking for an excuse not to walk to school 🤷‍♀️

Nothing that takes us there unfortunately. If it's just rainy that's fine, would only be worried if it's really stormy and 4yo would be both drenched and blown about!

We are under an amber weather warning for rain. I'm thinking about the possibility of localised flooding. Leaving extra time on the roads.

Do they have decent waterproof clothing?

Check the met office weather ap for your area to see what the hour by hour weather is.

Is there not even a bus that takes you part of the way there?

Ginmonkeyagain · 14/11/2025 07:44

Bit damp and drizzly in SE London. Unless you are the Wicked Witch of the West I think you'll be fine.

Smartiepants79 · 14/11/2025 07:45

Do you still have a buggy? Could he go in that if absolutely necessary?

I'm looking for advice about how to interpret the weather warning as I don't want my 6 year old to be stuck at school if pick up is unmanageable walking with my 4 year old.

We have all waterproofs etc so if it's just rainy but nothing extreme or risky we'll be fine.

We don't, that would have been a good idea though

Just watching the BBC weatherman now, the heavy rain is forecast way north of London - up by Milton Keynes - so you'll be fine.

Surely u have a pushchair is child is unwell use it! Or sod it one day off sick isn't gonna hurt!

ResusciAnnie · 14/11/2025 08:17

God well done, walking 40 minutes with my 4 year old would be fucking tedious at best. Let alone 3 more times in one day!! I’d be getting Ubers 😅

Gloriousgardener11 · 14/11/2025 08:21

It’s a bit of heavy rain, normal for November.
Why do meteorologists get so excited about seasonal weather?

Ginmonkeyagain · 14/11/2025 08:29

Yellow warnings are more a "be aware" situatation rather tham any danger. We are expecting a lot of heavy and perisitent rain so it could result in blocked drains or standing water. That is it really.

I wouldn't change my plans but it did make aure that our outside drain was clear of leaves and windows were closed when I left.
