Americans taking over

So after some advice on if it’s like this in the whole of the Caribbean. Away as a British family on holiday. 4 of us. There’s an abundance of sun loungers at the huge resort. For example came down to pool at 9am. Went for breakfast and back at the pool we were the only people sat in our space.
yesterday a family came down after us. Decided to take 8 loungers in the row we are in, took another 6 in front (nearer the pool) various family ages including little children. Huffing a puffing as we have one extra lounger for bags etc. floor is wet as by pool and no where to hang bags up.
today. Said family also not happy another family has 4 loungers. After an hour they all leave (thank god as unbelievably loud) . Another family fill the gap with friends. Here’s my issue.. same new family of yesterday turn up and are complaining they only have one lounger (the one next to them is our 5th spare one) none of their friends offer to give up a longer and there’s 5 kids under 12 all with a lounger they’re not using as in pool or on beach. Ffs it’s like they want our spare lounger but their own friends won’t give up one. I’ll be honest I like having the gap too as they’re all so flipin loud . Currently lunchtime and there’s loads of loungers elsewhere. Are all Americans this entitled.. never experienced this in Europe

They sound obnoxious but not sure why them being American is relevant. Maybe they’re on American Mumsnet complaining about a British family taking up a 5th sunbed when they don’t need it.

Greggsit · 13/11/2025 16:29

I've read the OP twice and I still can't see what they've done wrong. They want some loungers, but you have one you're not using?

HorrorAndHaagenDazs · 13/11/2025 16:29

Que?

LaserPumpkin · 13/11/2025 16:29

You shouldn’t be taking up a lounger for your bags if there aren’t enough for people to sit on.

The other guests’ nationality is irrelevant.

Brefugee · 13/11/2025 16:30

you are lucky they didn't just tip all your bags off the lounger you were hogging for no good reason.

I can't make head nor tail of it!

Sartre · 13/11/2025 16:31

As PP said, nationality is irrelevant. Your bags don’t need a chair.

Sorry I only mentioned American as it’s years since we where in the Caribbean but we’ve noticed this with 4-5 families already who are all American so highlighting purely to find out if it’s normal for them. Not meant in a rude way just wanting a view if it’s normal
I agree we completely don’t need to have a 5 lounger either and it’s purely so things don’t get wet on the floor. There’s plenty of loungers behind us still empty.

So you're using a lounger for bags but complaining about other people?

Same.
I can't see the problem. I can't see what being American has to do with it either.
Your bags shouldn't be taking up a lounger that can be used by a person if there is limited space.

Spirallingdownwards · 13/11/2025 16:34

Laughing that you think they are entitled to want a lounger for a person when you think you are entitled to one for your bags.

(yes I have one for my bags of there are plenty, but not otherwise)!

ginasevern · 13/11/2025 16:35

Can you please tell me in simple terms what exactly you and the Americans are doing with the loungers OP?

steff13 · 13/11/2025 16:35

I get that the loungers are on a first come, first served basis, but it's pretty rude to take one for your bags if they have an actual person who could use it.

I'm not sure what never having experience this in Europe has to do with anything. Americans are actually allowed to go to Europe, and frequently do.

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 13/11/2025 16:33

So you're using a lounger for bags but complaining about other people?

Yes because the floor is soaking wet and there’s nowhere to hang bags or clothes. Usually we have an umbrella with hooks underneath that would solve this problem. Again there’s still an abundance of loungers.

user0507 · 13/11/2025 16:38

They need a lounger, you are using one to put your bags on.

It's like having a bag on a train seat.

Move your bags.

TheatricalLife · 13/11/2025 16:40

Surely just move to the abundance of loungers then? Is it really worth ruining your holiday over?

So move if they're annoying you?

But don't complain that they want a lounger for a person when you're using one for bags

PrincessHedgehog · 13/11/2025 16:56

Why not put your stuff on the bottom end of your lounger? As you’ve clearly let us know you’re British there is no excuse for you to pretend that ‘in your culture’ seats are for bags. You know good and well they are not. Do you hog seats on the Tube too? 💀

HelloCanYouHearMe · 13/11/2025 16:58

Bloody hell OP. I bet you put your bags on the only available train seat too, don't you?

Zanatdy · 13/11/2025 16:59

If people need loungers, put your bags at the bottom of your lounger, you don’t need a whole one for bags.

Snowflakecentral · 13/11/2025 17:01

The entitlement of the British 😆

Prelim · 13/11/2025 17:02

Get a waterproof bag, would be sensible considering you are keeping it near a pool (they tend to be wet).

Shitmonger · 13/11/2025 17:03

Oh, are we back to having endless bot threads being horrible about Americans and making up wild lies about the States?

Those had mysteriously stopped after the election last year but it seems they’ve suddenly started again this week.

TheatricalLife · 13/11/2025 16:40

Not sure there’s anything else to say other than this⬆️

Starandflowers · 13/11/2025 17:06

Yeah you are the unreasonable one taking up a lounger for bags. Throw a towel down and put your things on that

Is every family taking a spare lounger for bags or just you? What is everyone else doing?
