For turning the heating on

I’m sitting here in a 100% wool jumper, a long 100% wool dress, and sheepskin boots with real wool inside and I am STILL cold.

maybe I’d feel better still if I wore gloves, a hat, and a scarf but why would I have to do that inside my own house? I’m not in Antarctica.

So I’ve turned the heating on. So sue me.

If you're cold OP, put it on.

I do think in general that people have a psychological thing going on where they automatically want the heating on because its November, or raining, or dark etc. despite much of the country being actually closer to May (16 degrees yesterday!) at the moment in terms of temperature, especially at night. But OP, you said you're in Scotland with lower temperatures. Likewise, you have those martyrs who would rather shiver than get the thermostat above 15 degrees.

It snowed in Inverness overnight, and reached -6 in the Cairngorms. The NE wind is like knives.
At times like this I wish I lived on the south coast 😂

Agree with those that have central heating and just have the thermostat set to 18 or whatever and let it do it's thing whenever necessary - whether that's June or January!

I've got storage heaters now so have to plan whether I'll be cold tomorrow - which is a bit of an arse ache (and expensive) but I've still had them turned on for weeks and I'm in bloody Cornwall! 😂

We don't have ours on overnight but do put it on when we get up. Have it about 20 and it does it's own thing if it drops below it turns itself on. If we start to get warm we switch it off.
Dh is getting on my nerves with it though. He feels cold more than me and can make him feel quite ill, but I am happy in just a nightie or sundress so if he needs it on i put it on. But he was literally shivering and wouldn't put it on because the thermostat said 20. Fml if you're that cold turn the thing up. I did turn it up and just told him there isn't a legal limit you can't go beyond.
We have gas bottles and they cost £75 a time. One will usually last a month and we had about 4 months during the year when we didn't need to buy one so saved that money for now.

My place has high humidity so always feels cold.

Iive not used my heating since last year.
I think it's warm to day.

Where do you live?

cestlavielife · 14/11/2025 22:01

You work to pay bills so you can be warm.who has told you otherwise? Put the heating on

I didn’t know that. I turn it on year round several times most days but I’m in Scotland

If you turn it on several times most days, then why is turning it on now notable?

Where do you live?

Suffolk.
