My girl is having her kittens! First one is here squeaking and healthy!

Second is imminent.

I think she’ll have 4 🤞🏽🤞🏽

Well it's always irresponsible deliberately to let a cat have a litter.
Any look round a rescue would tell you that.

👋🏾 bye!

@eyeses no - they are quite disparate

I agree with @Davros - I think you’ve done a wonderful job with the kitties, but I’m sure you’ve enjoyed every minute! This has been one of the nicest threads I can remember on Mumsnet and I’ll miss it once they’ve all gone to thwir new homes.

@Kittenwatch

Thanks so much for sharing your stories and pictures with us.
I have loved this thread. It popped up when I was having a sleepless night and I was able to witness the kitten births in real time!

Despite already having proper homes for the kittens ? There is no way these kittens were ever going to end up in a rescue shelter. They have been responsibly bred and cared for.

Yes, despite that.
There are thousands of cats and kittens already in rescue centres.
It's highly irresponsible to deliberately let a cat have kittens. There are countless unwanted animals who need homes.
All these people who wanted a kitten from the OP should have got one from a rescue centre.

No, sorry, I disagree. It’s the people whose cats and kittens end up in the rescue homes who are the irresponsible ones. Anyone taking an animal from a rescue centre has a much higher chance of getting an animal with multiple mental and physical health problems than they will with these kittens. That is one of the reasons so many animals remain in rescue centres. Owning an animal is very expensive but to chance getting one with the risk of higher costs of veterinary visits, long term medication and expensive foods needs extremely careful thought.

I could argue a case for more rescue animals to be euthanised but this lovely thread is not the place for that discussion. I've had rescue cats in the past but would never consider one which had been feral or had a doubtful past.

These kittens were bred carefully for a specific purpose and all had homes before they were born. They have been closely monitored by a vet. They are far more likely to enjoy long, happy, and healthy lives.

Purplebunnie · 01/02/2026 12:42

I visited the local Cats Protection League website and Battersea website. Every single cat on Battersea is not allowed to live with another cat. Cats Protection had a couple who may be able to live with another cat. I have looked at other rescue centres and this pretty much seems to be the norm. So there is an extremely large proportion of homes in the UK who will not be allowed to take on a rescue.

I am disallowed on two counts, I have cats and I also have a DGC who visits on a regular basis and this is another criteria for not having a rescue - let alone if you don't have either of these you have a dog

Davros · 01/02/2026 15:03

@Purplebunnie try the Meyhew Rescue Centre. They definitely allow cats to live in homes where there is already another cat

Purplebunnie · 01/02/2026 15:32

@Davros thank you. I've had a look and they do have a few that can live with other cats

Davros · 01/02/2026 18:23

🤞 keep us posted! We adopted from there last October and a very good friend has got cats from there multiple times, always with a resident cat in situ

How do you think most of the grown cats in rescues started life out? FFS.

Well, not mainly from responsible owners, obviously.

Usually from abandonment, neglect, and homelessness. There are some from good homes who have changes of circumstance and have to give them up but they are in the minority.

Where do you think they come from ?

Cherrypies · 01/02/2026 23:52

There us no such thing as responsibly bred, when the rescue centres are overwhelmed with homeless cats.
Cats protection and the like, are irresponsible themselves, with their silly policies. Most local areas have small rescue organisations, that are far more open to adoption.
The op is highly irresponsible, these kittens may have gone to good homes, but that is taking the chances of cats already born, of getting a good home.

Can you please let me know what irresponsible policies Cats Protection have and where those policies are documented? Asking for a friend that volunteers at CP ……

Has Scrump gone to a new home yet?

Kittenwatch · 07/02/2026 15:47

Nope @Davros He’s off a week tomorrow. We’re really upset thinking about it but he will be well loved. All other kits have settled very well and I’ve had lots of updates.

Good for mum and you they are leaving over a while instead of all in a short time period. 🥰

LizzieW1969 · 07/02/2026 16:52

I’m so glad the kitties who have gone have settled well in their new homes. I’m sure Scrump will too. You will miss them all, of course, and the house will be too quiet for a while.. But at least you will get regular updates.

Davros · 07/02/2026 17:02

Aw, enjoy your last week together. Scrump will be very happy having been so well brought up

Kittenwatch · 07/02/2026 18:37

@grumpygrape From what I read it seemed this is the best way to do it? I’m so glad they’ve all settled well.

And whilst I’ll definitely miss them, it’s definitely time for them to move on. They are very independent and have distinct personalities and will develop as they get more comfortable ❤️

With a heavy heart we said goodbye to Scrump today. His new owner is absolutely besotted and he’s already sleeping on her lap in his new home.

DH is putting on a brave face but I know he misses him.

Toastada is settled happily upstairs with DS and tomorrow we are going to a pet shop to buy some new toys for Toastie (as now call her).

Mum will be heading to the vet on Wednesday for her op and Toastie as soon as the vet says she is ready.

A few recent pics for the admirers among you ❤️

Oh how sad to have said goodbye to Scrump. Will he be living close enough for you to see him from time to time? Toastie is very beautiful!
