im Losing my hair. That’s it really. It breaks my heart every single day the hairs falling out . I know to some it’s only hair but to me I can’t bear the thought of going bald without my choice. I’m 35 and have just had my bloods done at the doctors for iron , thyroid etc and all normal. In August I was briefly hospitalised for anemia so I think it’s from the stress of that but I have no idea. I take pumpkin seed oil, biotin the lot.

no idea what I want from writing this but I’m over it . Including pictures of my hair and my hair loss. It certainly isn’t normal.

I'm sorry OP, I've had a couple of bouts of hair loss and it is especially distressing for women.

Minimise washing as much as possible as that can be quite stressful for your scalp but when you do wash give yourself a really decent scalp massage especially round the temple and hairline areas that tend to show the loss most.

Not sure how you usually wear your hair but the style in the photo is likely to be causing tension so try to wear it in a low loose pony when you can.

Hopefully it'll pass ASAP for you 💜

CatLoco · 12/11/2025 20:38

It's likely hormonal. I take daily folic acid for different reasons and my hair has never been better.

Katie2908 · 12/11/2025 20:42

So sorry youre going thoguh this. I agree with PP about a wig and silk bonnet at hple but I would look into PRP hair treatments. I use to do them on balding men, and it was so satisfying to see hair grow back and come back thicker.

It can be little pricey, and you will have to do maintainence but seeing results for my own eyes I couldnt believe it until I started seeing it with men coming back.

Just wanted to say never underestimate the power of quality vitamins. Strong 1000 my vitb12. B Complex. Zinc 50mg. Quality iron and multi. Just give it a go would take about 3 months for them to kick in. All are needed together.

Any specific recommendations please? My iron is 44 and I’ve been on 210mg for about 12 months. Think I need something all round better!

CakeyCat · 12/11/2025 20:46

i feel for you OP. Have a look at hair loss treatments like op suggested. I’ve seen results and yes it is pricey, it hurts like hell, but the results can be fabulous. Good luck

Hi OP from another fellow sufferer here :(
If you are looking to disguise it while you figure out why it’s happening, I can recommend hair toppers! There’s a group on FB called hair toppers for volume/coverage which has lots of advice.

Yrs! I have a friend who wears a topper and its fantastic. It looks incredibly natural. Expensive though

HappyAsASandboy · 13/11/2025 08:45

This looks like telogen effluvium and could have been caused by the anaemia.

I have been through this 6 times in my life, each caused by a mental or physical stress. Three/four months after the event my hair starts falling out in handfuls. Brushfuls. So much in the shower. On each occasion it has fallen out for 3 months and then the loss reduces to a normal amount and the hair starts to regrow. Regrowth is slow and annoying because it sticks out and can’t be styled, but it does eventually grow back to normal lengths to even out with the thin and straggly hair that didn’t fall out.

In your position I would try and stay calm for three months after you noticed it start to fall out. Hopefully it will have stopped falling out in such amounts by then. Then you’ll have a month where you can’t tell if it’s growing back or not, before you notice short spiky stubble coming through and you’re in to the regrowth. Try and ignore it until after Christmas and then see how it goes.

StrawberryJangle · 13/11/2025 08:48

Go for it! I did and never looked back.

Started with grade 4 which was too much! Now I do a 6 in summer and an 8 in winter.

It suits me, I haven't been to a hairdresser in years and I look years younger.

It doesn't resolve the initial problem though I know.

GroundControlToMajorTomCat · 13/11/2025 08:48

I had hair loss that looked quite similar to yours. I think mine was just stress and it's growing back now so hopefully yours will be the same

Quality iron and multi try Boots but have to say B Complex for me are always the answer, again quality bought from online sellers eBay ect. They will recommend the highest safest dose.

magiciansgirlonce · 15/11/2025 20:04

Looking at photos mine went to this stage through stress. Still recommend very high quality vitamins B Complex, Zinc ( 50mg) highest safest dose , V12 ( 1000mg ) highest dose and simply iron and multi from quality supplier. Look eBay. Can't recommend enough these vitamins in the above dose.

SillyGo0se · 15/11/2025 20:12

Heya

I completely get how you feel. I have alopecia areata, and my head looked like a patchy globe.

Best thing I been did was buzz my head down to a 3. What it didn't give me was long flowing hair, but I got my sense of power back. Watching clumps fall out, checking how it looks in lighting and trying to cover it is exhausting and takes an emotional toll.

You can see a private dermatologist for a biopsy to confirm the reason for hair loss, but it is quite pricey and then base your treatment options around the results.

If it's Teflon effluvium then a good cut like you're having and some time can make all the difference.

From somebody who was full uncle fester at one point, I promise it gets better, sometimes it's not the hair that does but you will find a place where you feel like you again.

I love wearing wigs and I also like my fuzzy buzzcut. Take care of yourself.

stomachamelon · 15/11/2025 20:32

My hair loss is intermittent (I have crohns). I found it one of the hardest things to deal with tbh.

Get copies of blood work and get them looked at properly. What’s ‘ok’ for some is really not. I am thinking particularly thyroid. You already have an autoimmune illness so your parameters may be different.

Sending a hug.

DollydaydreamTheThird · 15/11/2025 20:35

I had alopecia areata and lost about half my hair in big patches. It was pretty traumatic OP so I really feel for you and understand that panic. Initially I used Toppik hair fibres and Mane hair spray. Links below for you. It makes you feel less self conscious. You need a diagnosis really. Have you the money to pay for a private dermatology appt? In my area I think nhs wait was about a year!
Mane
Toppik
I used fake ponytails as well to make my hair look thicker by wrapping it around my own hair in a bun. My hair eventually came back after I'd tried every treatment going, including a clinical trial and had accepted that it wasnt growing back. I honestly do think once you stop worrying about it, it comes back. Sending lots of love. 💐

Try taking spirulina. It certainly helps my hair grow, but I don't have alopecia so can't say if it will work for that.

Deebee90 · 18/11/2025 01:21

So bit of an update I have seen a trichologist I think their called who confirmed it’s TE and not alopecia thankfully . Because of my ulcerative colitis I’m limited on supplements I can take as my stupid body doesn’t absorb them. Next steps are the hair chop and I’m still getting the private blood tests done to confirm things . I definitely think it’s the flare that caused this in August as I’m still flaring now but my hormones are all over the show so I want it checking. Was advised don’t buy extensions as they rip your hair out so looks like I’m sucking it up till we know more

I shaved my head a couple of years ago for different reasons and found that I actually loved it. It’s really liberating, OP, so I say go for it. That way you own it and can stop worrying about the loss.

Trust me I wish I could. If I could work from home then I would do it but sadly I have a job in the public eye and I don’t think my employer would let me come to work like that. Although if it falls out any more then I might have too.

I don’t think any employer could stop you, frankly. Hair loss can be caused by many things out of our control, up to and including chemo. No employer could prevent someone coming to work with shaved hair for that.

fivebyfivefaith · 18/11/2025 02:14

If it’s TE it should stop - I never had it before and haven’t since, it just seemed to be how incredibly unwell I was with the food poisoning that my body said “can’t concentrate on hair, sorry”

I washed it as often as needed, and resigned myself to keeping my scalp clean and that hair was going to come out anyway
used a couple of scalp treatments but not sure they did much
upped my protein, added more iron tablets, took a good multivitamin
then it was just time

this is how much I was losing every 3 days and my hair now just before I had it cut

I’m actually ready to shave my hair off I can’t cope with this.

I second this. I had a short course of Ferratin sulphate from GP and I added in a good quality Biotin and Daily Vitamin/Mineral tablet and increased my protein (diet had been been lazy and mainly carbs for months) after 3 months my thin receding arrows did start growing back. I have to nag myself to eat protein though - as an almost vegetarian I don’t like it really. Eggs were my saviour. Good luck OP.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 18/11/2025 07:30

I’ve had thinning hair for the past year. I tried various treatments including Minoxidil but nothing worked. So I started to wear wigs. I love them and they look so natural these days. I was hanging on to my increasingly pathetic bob under these but a few weeks ago had my natural hair cut into a pixie. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I haven’t had hair as short as this for thirty years and everyone says how good it looks and I love it. Whereas before I wouldn’t go out without a wig I now have the option and am increasingly finding my hair looks so good I enjoy going out with my short hair. It looks amazingly normal too - nobody would know it has become so thin.

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 18/11/2025 08:12

Shave it off and just wrap your head with scarf or a wig. Careful putting it in tight buns like that, it will cause the hairs to break more.

I think you should hold off for now. Please try the quality vitamins I have mentioned. This has happened to me at different stages of my life. Never had thick hair but once it came out so much I was combing it over you could see my bare scalp. It also happened to my daughter who did research on the vitamins. Got to be quality in the high doses I've mentioned but no higher. It might take 6 months but it's so worth trying. Please give it a go.m

Ds had hair that looked like yours during a time of significant stress. At the time he wasn’t leaving the house much . He started to take multi vitamins and as the stress ended his hair loss eventually stopped . Not sure if the multi vitamins helped or not it but figured they couldn’t hurt
