My son has runaway

My son has runaway from home. We had an argument this morning because he didn't want to go to school and he stormed out.

He is 10 (almost 11). The school called me and told me he hadn't arrived. I've tried calling and texting him but had no reply. I've called the police and they are out searching for him. His Dad and sister are currently driving round the area (and friends houses etc) in the hope of spotting him. I'm going out of my mind with worry 😭 he's never done this before.

Glad he’s okay and home safely @Wario54.

Ignore the weirdos, it’s probably past their bedtime.

Very frightening OP.

Where might he think to go?
Where have you ever been with him that he knows is open and he could wait in?
Library? Big supermarket?

Thank you.

I did - just afterwards because, first thought was oh no a 10 year old is missing at 6.30pmish.

Thereisatimeandaplace · 11/11/2025 21:21

So glad he's home.
For those questioning the police response this is exactly why.

SodthatImoff · 11/11/2025 21:22

Fantastic news! Was really worried for you. What a relief. X

What?

My reply was the first under the OP, and I didn’t mention any place the OP said they had looked.

Hope he shows up soon.
Any idea why he didn't want to go to school?
My son left school after a class in the morning once and didn't turn up at home until 7 or 8pm which left me frantic. The school called me and I asked them what his last class was about - it was all about family and his dad and I had just separated which made him depressed. Maybe the school has some idea about what is upsetting him.

Who pissed in your dinner 🤣🤣🤣 I was asking a genuine question. From where I’m from 10yrs old is sooo young. ‘Ya melt’ what a delight you are

No you weren't, you were being a smug bitch to a frantic mother distressed about her missing child. Who pissed in your dinner that you lack even the tiniest modicum of compassion or empathy?

LabourOfLoathing · 11/11/2025 21:30

So glad he’s home safe and we’ll OP 💐

You also need to RTFT

StewkeyBlue · 11/11/2025 21:31

When I was 5 or 6 my friend from round the corner managed to get into our house and up to my bedroom early in the morning without being seen.

She had ‘left home’ and hid under my bed. After a while I could hear her mum and mine talking / shouting downstairs. Her mum left and my mum came upstairs. She realised something was up and found my friend under the bed. Just had time to slap me before grabbing friend and racing out of the house to find her Mum.

Both mums crying in hysterics of fear and pent up emotion and relief in the kitchen.

no I was being a ‘smug bitch ‘ to you calling me a melt. lol I asked a question on a forum. Not everyone will have the same opinion. Get a grip ffs. I said what I said to OP AFTER he was found. Just because I don’t agree with a child walking to & from school at that age doesn’t make me a smug bitch lol. Anyway off to bed as some people have to be up for work in the morning and take the kids to school. 🙃

PractisingMyTelekenipsis · 11/11/2025 21:42

I'm late to this one, but I'm glad he's home and safe. Give him a big hug.

Hons123 · 11/11/2025 21:44

Read the post and went right back to the last page available - really wanted to read he is home and OK. Thank God. Good to hear it. Really good.

I ' m pleased he is back. You must be so relieved.

He needs a good talking to, not a bloody hug. At 10 he is old enough to understand that people would be worried and looking for him. What a waste of police time too.

AmberRose86 · 11/11/2025 20:54

Oh man I’d be so relieved (and pretty raging I think although I’d wait till the dust had settled before I said my piece).

This is how I'd feel too! I'd be torn between hugging him forever and wanting to wring his neck!

bosslady89 · 11/11/2025 20:55

That’s a crazy statement ‘would be unusual if a child walked home with a parent’ at the age of 10? No. That’s an odd thing to say 🤣 it’s not unusual at all. Maybe 30yrs ago when you and all these other mummy’s were at school it was normal. The world isn’t what it used to be lol

Edited

Completely normal to walk to and from school in year 6 round here too - zone 2 south London. Prepares them for secondary school where they may have to take a bus or train by themselves.
