Sick of shit weather

DevilsAdvocate101 · 10/11/2025 22:19

Just that, sick of shitty weather and the forecast of rain whole week. It's so humid outside and inside of the house is very humid despite the heating and window opening Shenanigans.
Have little kids who are stuck at home in this stupid rain and it's too dark for the most part, added to this every day news of stabbing like this recent of Birmingham bull ring where we go very often, so feeling very unsafe with it all.
It's shitty through and through.

Second post like this in last few days. It’s the UK, same every year. Plan a few things, get out of the house every day. Before you know it, will be spring.

RampantIvy · 11/11/2025 08:18

We haven't had any frost so far this autumn.

It certainly isn't weather for my wide leg trousers and jeans today.🌧

🤣🤣

Yeah, this is my second, maybe even third, time round with them and I’ve learned a thing or two!

I feel the same as you @DevilsAdvocate101. I hate this weather. I’m in NI and it seems to rain relentlessly from mid October onwards. It’s just that horrible feeling of being damp from the inside out. My mood changes to melancholy as soon as the grey days start. I can’t help it. All the happy clappy winter people can shove their puddle suits and hot chocolate where the sun don’t shine😆😆

FlySwimmer · 11/11/2025 09:00

Where I am (east of England) it has been weeks of grey skies, with only the odd morning of sunshine before it then clouds over. It’s the relentless grey that gets to me: rain is fine, cold is fine. But weeks of nothingness does get to you. Lucky those of you who have had more varied/better autumn weather so far.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 11/11/2025 09:00

I agree. I don’t mind cold at all but I hate rain.

Whether it is winter or not (it isn't, it is still autumn) is irrelevant, the lack of sunshine and rain nearly every day is depressing, especially at a time of year when you know you have at least three months of similar crapness due to the fact that winter in lowland UK, especially southern England, is little more than a cooler version of autumn.

We have just had one of the dullest October's on record and November has also started off dreadful for lack of sun and near daily rainfall. It is not surprising people are sick of it. In the good old days, we used to have mobile weather systems that brought rain for a few hours, followed by a clearance behind the cold front and polar maritime air bringing sunshine and showers. Now, we seem to be getting semi-permanent clag with light levels so low you need the lights on all day. The other problem with this type of weather is that if you don't have a tumble dryer, it is a pain getting laundry dried. It is too mild to put the heating on, too wet and humid to peg clothes outside, and it takes days to dry clothes indoors on a clothes rack without putting the heating on even when you don't need it.

Try a de-humidifier for the washing and general air in the house.

I’m the queen of hating bad weather, and it affects my health, but this is one year I won’t be feeling hard done by. It’s been fabulous for months.

I do feel for you trying to entertain kids, though.

Greenwitchart · 11/11/2025 09:54

I tell myself that it is good for my gardens and for our water supply (reservoirs). I live in the South East in a seaside town and we have had some good weather in the Spring/Summer so I don't want to complain too much.

I am a bit sick of the sea wind though!

GlassofRosePorfavor · 10/11/2025 22:31

Ah come on op there's no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing! I even got a puddle suit for my dog following this theory but she said fuck this and went fir

I think GlassofRosePorfavor was poking fun at the ‘appropriate clothing’ brigade but got cut off, as it reads as if her dog had ‘appropriate clothing’ and still voted with its paws!
I agree that this endless grey, and hours of rain is totally miserable with young children. I think it’s also not much fun if you have nowhere to dry outdoor gear, if you have a utility room or porch for soggy clothing, you’re very lucky! You also need a good budget for properly waterproof clothing, even my trusty gortex jacket couldn’t cope with Sunday evenings dog walk, my sleeves were soaked through. Then had the joy of putting soaking clothing over backs of kitchen chairs for them to dry, and mop up the puddles.
I know we need the rain, so I’m not complaining, but I also understand that this weather can be really miserable, and make life just that bit harder, especially if money, space and young children or children with additional needs are added into the mix (my goddaughter has cerebral palsy and this weather makes using her wheelchair so much harder it adds just another layer of complications for both her and her mum).

HalloweenVibe · 11/11/2025 10:51

We need the rain after the very dry summer. I remember reading somewhere that the south east has capacity for one dry winter but will run out of water if we have two.

StripyShirt · 11/11/2025 11:04

asrl78 · 10/11/2025 23:29

Try telling that to the Jamacians. Alternatively, tell me what appropriate clothing to wear for a five mile bike ride in the rain with temperatures in the mid to high teens that will keep the rain off my clothes, but also prevent me from overheating and sweating.

I could have done with appropriate clothing to prevent me from getting badly buffeted in 40-50 mph crosswinds when hiking in the Snowdonia mountains last Easter.

Our 'miserable climate' is a fiction, with many people taking dull weather personally - perhaps they interpret many other aspects of life in a negative way too. Parts of the UK are as dry as the Middle East, and we rarely get snow. We now also have blisteringly hot summers with prolonged dry spells.

Wear as little as possible on your bike, get wet, and change at the other end. I did that for years. Waterproof gear usually gets you wetter with sweat than the rain would do. If you ride most days, it's surprising how rare it actually is to get a soaking.

Other than that, just dress according to the conditions and get out there 🙂💦

I love autumn when you can walk with a pumpkin spice latte and enjoy the colours of fall 🍂 🍁 but it's all grey and wet everywhere and constant rain.

I think part of the problem is this is a bit of an Instagram rose-tinted view, and in reality Autumn/Winter in the UK is very often grey, wet and a bit shit.

doodleygirl · 11/11/2025 11:39

I do think you need to alter your outlook, I’m in Manchester, yesterday took the dog out in the morning, beautiful sunshine. Today it rained so I went to the woods, still gorgeous. I had a waterproof coat on and stayed relatively dry, and the best part you feel so much better for being outdoors.

This has to be my favourite MN clichés!

Some people don't like the be out in the rain / wind / cold / snow regardless of what they are wearing. I am one of them!

Although having 3 DC I appreciate that sometimes we need to suck it up and get out despite the weather, I do however try to plan indoor activities!!

Roseshavethorns · 11/11/2025 14:46

It's so much milder than normal that our garden red squirrels and hedgehog have still not gone in to hibernation.

Agree. I don’t mind cold. I don’t mind some rain. I love snow.

But endless grey, damp, weirdly mild -
no.

Autumn and winter in other countries is so much better. I’m going to the Alps
in Feb and I can’t wait for snow and sun. Cold but beautiful.

vellichoria · 11/11/2025 15:01

I hate grey, dull, rainy weather too but I am so grateful that we had so much sun this year! Last year, I was feeling really miserable as I felt like we may have had about 4 weeks of sunshine in the entire year and even that was never continous!

Delatron · 11/11/2025 15:03

I am so very grateful we had a good summer finally! That is true.

There’s nothing worse than going in to autumn feeling like we didn’t actually have a summer and you know you’ve got a 6 months slog ahead of you…
