Bonfire night was yesterday. If youre still setting off fireworks tonight i assume youre not only selfish but really a bit dim.

Back to school you go!

It's bonfire week now hadn't you heard?

RitaFromThePitCanteen · 06/11/2025 23:31

FFS, how many anti fireworks threads do we need? One day I want to have so little to worry about that I fixate on fireworks.

Are you willing to lobby Parliament @TesChique to restrict the sale of fireworks to individuals for personal use?

If not, then YABU: writing your opinion on here isn't going to change your reality.

I don't disagree with how irritating it is to have fireworks all week and last week also, but I think the way you've phrased your OP completely misses the point.

Exactly. Well put.

Aparecium · 06/11/2025 23:32

So people are only to have mid-week parties? To only let off fireworks on a school night? Were you just as disparaging about people who had their firework parties last weekend?

What nitwittery.

Anearoa · 06/11/2025 23:32

I like fireworks more than I like dogs, but I don’t like either of them.

I mean, people have been starting threads moaning about fireworks since before Diwali.

It's so sad that some people can't read them, so feel the need to start yet another.

If you're still starting threads tonight, are we to assume it's because you're a bit dim and need to go back to school?

Or is it just because you wanted to, much like those setting off fireworks tonight?

FWIW I'm not a fireworks fan, but pretending people can't read a calendar, rather than stretching your mind to the possibility they may have been working last night/DC may have been with other parent, or the whole myriad of other reasons there may be, doesn't really show you in a good light either.

bridgetreilly · 06/11/2025 23:53

They aren’t all bonfire night. We’ve also had Diwali and a Sikh celebration here.

Yet you have little enough to worry about to moan about a mumsnet thread?

Fireworks Diwali GIF

Here's some more for you

Zanatdy · 07/11/2025 05:37

Guess some people have multiple firework parties. I didn’t hear any last night, thank God as my dog was barking his head off (thankfully not shaking this time like he sometimes does). My mum’s dog was trembling by the door, panting so much, heart racing. For hours.

Peridoteage · 07/11/2025 05:44

Ffs op

People have jobs. And lives and different cultures/religions.

That means that neighbour A might celebrate on the 5th itself. Neighbour B is perhaps hindu and celebrated diwali, but on the 25th not the 20th because thats when their brother & his family could visit. Neighbour C attends local organised display on the 1st nov. Neighbour D has fireworks at home on friday night on the 7th because they're on night shifts the rest of the week. Neighbour E is Sikh and celebrated Bandi chor divas on the 21st of october. Neighbour F goes to a local organised display run by a school on the 8th.

You have to expect fireworks might happen most evenings for about 3-4 weeks. If you're a dog owner, presumably you've been working year round to acclimatise them to the noise eg with firework videos where you gradually increase the volume?

soupyspoon · 07/11/2025 05:44

We're off to a big display next weekend

Tutorpuzzle · 07/11/2025 06:03

Hideous things. “Ooh yes, let’s just pop into the newsagent’s and buy two diet cokes and a box of explosives that we can detonate in front of the kids!”

Thick as pig shit.

I went to a fireworks display on Sunday and going to another one tonight. Not sorry. No fucks given whether anyone else likes
it or not.

I don’t think they should be sold to individuals but I think displays can be on as many days as people like.

All the babyish insults in the world doesn't change the fact your thought process is severely limited, if you can't imagine some people may have been working on Guy Fawkes night, or otherwise disposed in some way.

Isn't that the definition of 'dim'?

Hideous things. “Ooh yes, let’s just pop into the newsagent’s and buy two diet cokes and a box of explosives that we can detonate in front of the kids!”

Thick as pig shit.

Much more rational than let’s buy two diet cokes, a few cans of poison that will hugely increase the risk of violence in front of the kids, and while we’re at it some small devices that emit noxious gases that will ultimately ruin ours and the children’s health. Oh and a small bit of card that will spike dopamine and adrenaline in a way that is known to be so addictive it has destroyed many family finances and relationships, and led to risky behaviour to get more money to buy more bits of cards.

And let’s not gloss over the two diet cokes that which are tins of liquid linked to heart disease, dental issues , diabetes and gut health issues.

But I prefer that the public are able to talk reasoned risks rather than living in a Nanny state. The sale of fireworks is sufficiently restricted to key times of the year in my view.

worrisomeasset · 07/11/2025 11:35

I am with OP on this matter. I understand that when Bonfire Night falls in the middle of the week, a lot of firework displays and celebrations will take place on the Saturday before or after. What I cannot understand is why there were so many fireworks last night. Why have them on Thursday 6th of November? There were so many last night that it can’t have been just one selfish twat who was doing it.

Legomania · 07/11/2025 11:47

With Bonfire Night falling on a Wednesday this year there are equally likely to be events up to and including the following weekend as the previous one (especially with Halloween having fallen at the start of last weekend).

But somehow I suspect logic is not what you're after
