A massive waste of public money policing a game where violence is so expected that schools have had to close early.

It’s just a game. Just football. Shouldn’t be a drain on public services.

If there’s much of a security risk (and it seems like there is) the match should be played to a closed stadium. No fans. They appear to be the issue. Well the away fans anyway.

The away fans, who don’t have tickets and probably are in Tel Aviv, aren’t the security issue.

It’s local residents who are creating trouble. Not even Villa fans.

There are Tel Aviv fans there, I’ve just seen them being interviewed on The Telegraph. They came over specifically to protest, so carry on with your assumptions

stomachamelon · 06/11/2025 19:36

@Keytokenthe ‘riots’ were largely the other team as it was a derby and there was a concern with flares.
It’s funny I never see such emboldened views when you talk about Greek, Polish or Italian teams.
I would ask people to use their brain cells when they read the information. They sent planes due to a real concern about specific attacks online- people were questioned about their ethnicity post match, thrown in the canals etc.
I don’t deny there is a bad element but like England they could have stopped people identified from flying and attending.
This is far more than that.
The posts today have been horrific about the targeting of ‘Zionist’s’ in that area. Why? If the away fans are banned.
I mean, come on!

stomachamelon · 06/11/2025 19:38

@blankcanvas3there are MTA fans that are British. Including members of my family. Some are also Barcelona fans and one a Mutchengladbach.

There is no dispersal order in place I guess? So fans can attend?

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 06/11/2025 19:38

TheFrendo · 06/11/2025 15:03

No.

Islam should not be dictating which football teams can play in this country.

They’re not. The Maccabi Tel Aviv club themselves decided that their fans shouldn’t got to the match due to the violence they continually display. They refused to sell them tickets.

Yes, but I have specifically just seen one who has flown over from Tel Aviv being interviewed. He got here yesterday. There have been a couple of dispersal orders so far, fans are getting in okay (my friend is there). There has been ‘minor altercations’ but nothing else. All seems relatively peaceful

No assumptions here. Yesterday local residents were putting up banners declaring Jews weren’t welcome.

Birmingham has become a disgusting display of sectarianism with people voting based on whether airports in Pakistan are being built.

MartinAynuss · 06/11/2025 19:41

stomachamelon · 06/11/2025 19:30

@MartinAynuss you think MTA fans will turn up tonight?
This whole thing is a farce and they were prevented from going based on intelligence about ‘hooligans’. In which case why is the game needing extra police and being classed as volatile?

Have you not looked at the previous links about their fans? They are nothing but trouble and there is nothing to stop them turning up tonight without tickets and kicking off.

I’m not seeing any reports on these Jews Aren’t welcome signs. Only reports on the Zionists Aren’t Welcome signs. Are you purposefully spreading misinformation to make people look bad?

I really don’t need to do anything to make people look bad. I’m watching TV right now and it’s utterly depressing that we’re dealing with this bollocks in the UK.

I assume from your post you are anti Zionist? And don’t believe in a Jewish state?

People are well within their rights to protest against a team who shouldn’t even be playing European football in the first place. It’s utterly depressing that you’re spreading misinformation about these ‘jews aren’t welcome’ signs, when you know very well that’s not what the sign said. The MTV fans are well known to be hooligans, good on Birmingham for not standing for it.

Yes, I am anti zionist. I would like for jews to have a state but not at the expense of Palestinian lives

Bringemout · 06/11/2025 19:50

5128gap · 06/11/2025 14:45

This really isn't about 'nasty black people' and Jewish people 'being nice earlier' or vice versa, and these anecdotes serve no useful purpose. Anyone with half a brain knows that the majority of people from ALL ethnicities dont go rampaging round cities assaulting other people and destroying property, and that every ethnicity has its share of nice people and horrible people.
The last thing we should be doing is deciding the good guys and the bad guys based on ethnicity or religion.
Yes, there will be people using this game as an opportunity to be anti semetic. Equally there will be people using it to be Islamophobic. Protests have started already from both sides of the underlying debate.
Angry violent young men from both sides will pose a risk to the safety of people tonight. Meanwhile the vast majority of law abiding people from all groups in the Aston area will be picking their DC up early from schools that have closed early, and getting home as fast as they are able.

I’m always on the side of the people who think screaming at an elderly man for no reason is pretty disgusting.

Look, we can pretend all we like but it’s clear what those signs mean. And I stand corrected on the wording.

Sectarianism in the UK is a worrying trend and it’s naive to pretend this is just a protest about football.

@BorgQueen But the far right Zionists who rioted in Amsterdam should be welcomed by us?! And we should pay for it?

All the reports talk about a pre organised “jew hunt”.

waitam · 06/11/2025 19:52

I bet Prince W is happy to be in Belem for this.

The politicisation of anything non political is awful. I hope it goes without trouble.

They also talk about Maccabi fans changing anti arab slurs/ singing about raping arab women and them ripping down flags. The Jew Hunt messages on whatsapp that were found are disgusting end of. But, lets not pretend MTA fans are not racist violent thugs

Parts of Birmingham are absolutely awful now. And I say that as a religious ethnic minority (one of the minorities that people generally don’t give a fuck about or even mention when doing their right-on EDI crap).
They only give a fuck about one religious group in this city.

Jews literally live in Birmingham right now, and live their lives everyday without any problems. Sectarianism is a problem but it’s just not what is happening tonight at the protests

Bringemout · 06/11/2025 19:58

Always time for a light bit of anti-semitism on mumsnet of an evening. How delightful.

Jews in the UK are the most likely to be on the receiving end of racism per capita. Why on earth we are tolerating this is beyond me.

You think sectarianism has nothing to do with what’s going on tonight? You still think it’s about football. Okaaaay…

Christ, there literally are fans there protesting outside. How hard is it for everyone to fucking have a look at the news reports rather than shitting on muslims on Mumsnet
