A massive waste of public money policing a game where violence is so expected that schools have had to close early.

It’s just a game. Just football. Shouldn’t be a drain on public services.

If the Villa fans have any kind of decency, they will go and stand in the ‘away’ section.
That’s what I’d do.
Don’t let the facist islamists win.

PotolKimchi · 06/11/2025 16:49

@BorgQueen But the far right Zionists who rioted in Amsterdam should be welcomed by us?! And we should pay for it?

The Tel Aviv club declined their ticket allocation after rioting in Israel between their fans and those from another Tel Aviv club.

Their fans have cased trouble everywhere.

EasternStandard · 06/11/2025 16:54

What happened in the end, was the ban against fans overturned?

Can read up in

Tiswa · 06/11/2025 16:57

murasaki · 06/11/2025 16:41

Exactly, most of the frothers here have no idea about football.

And I dont particularly think this is a football issue it is a political one that has split over into the world of football and not one handled that great by UEFA

The ban was over turned, but the Tel Aviv club refused their ticket allocation and wouldn't tell tickets to their fans.

millymollymoomoo · 06/11/2025 17:02

Or how about we don’t tolerate anti semitism and don’t tolerate muslim
community behaving in this manner?

it’s outrageous what is happening. And talking if waste of public money / the disgusting pro Palestinian demos week on week on week based on propaganda and uneducated idiots

we simply cannot allow one part of the community to dictate in this manner and anyone found causing incitement to hate or threats should be arrested and thrown in jail ( like the Southport rioters and tweeters!)

The club themselves decided not to bring their fans after rioting in Tel Aviv.

This particular group of fans are well known for being trouble, regardless of the ethnicity of the local population.

Barleycat · 06/11/2025 17:10

This this this this. No one seems to acknowledge the issue is with the fans of the Israeli team and their history of horrendous behaviour. Its not anti semetism, it's because the fans are aggressive and badly behaved. UTV!

stomachamelon · 06/11/2025 18:25

A small section of the fans are badly behaved. There was far more arrests and sentences for ‘native’ Dutch than maccabi tel aviv fans.
And what about the posts ‘advising’ people of their rights to carry weapons etc tonight for ‘sporting’ reasons by a man who championed the ban eg baseball bats.
They are just as scummy as the ‘few’.
And what about the likes of Corbyn saying they were going to Attend tonight? This has nothing to do with football.

Maybe there were more Dutch arrested because the Israeli government sent ‘rescue’ planes to help the poor defenceless Maccabi fans because they are never racist or cause trouble wherever they go.

So by your standards the Maccabi fans should also be in jail as they also incite hatred, don’t they have a song about raping Arab women?

Or is it only a bad thing when other religions or cultures are football hooligans?

queenofwandss · 06/11/2025 14:04

It’s not just the cost of the policing, it’s the resource being taken away from other crime responses eg domestic abuse.

What resources being taken away from that. Police are on overtime, being drafted in from other forces to support. Don’t just make stuff up.

The ban wasn’t over turned. Tel Aviv just ended the argument by saying they’re wouldn’t accept the tickets even if it was. The government then just shut up about it.

WellYouWereMythTaken · 06/11/2025 18:55

If there’s much of a security risk (and it seems like there is) the match should be played to a closed stadium. No fans. They appear to be the issue. Well the away fans anyway.

HoskinsChoice · 06/11/2025 19:01

Too blatant but novelty subject matter so 5/10.

GAJLY · 06/11/2025 19:06

queenofwandss · 06/11/2025 14:02

I completely agree with you. Why should taxpayers fund the policing of these things if people can’t behave reasonably? Just make it a televised match on BBC.

Agreed 👆

That has never stopped football hooligans turning up for a fight before and I doubt it will now.
Why should Villa fans miss out on watching their team play in Europe because the other team have violent thugs as fans?

Fair point. There should be repercussions for fans behaving badly though. Badly as in hooliganism, racism rampant violence etc which Maccabi Tel Aviv have form for. As Villa fans haven’t done anything of the sort maybe they should get to watch and the away lot don’t. Too late now ofc.

TeenagersAngst · 06/11/2025 19:25

This has moved far beyond the hooliganism of the Tel Aviv fans. They aren’t even in Birmingham tonight and yet there is 700 police and Jewish people are being penned in to avoid violence. And there are pro Palestine protests.

What the fuck has all that got to do with football?

stomachamelon · 06/11/2025 19:30

@MartinAynuss you think MTA fans will turn up tonight?
This whole thing is a farce and they were prevented from going based on intelligence about ‘hooligans’. In which case why is the game needing extra police and being classed as volatile?
