Will you change who you vote for at the next General Election?

Pandersmum · 06/11/2025 07:22

We all had our own reasons for voting as we did in the 2024 general election.

Knowing what you now know, would you still vote for who you voted in 2024?

if you would vote differently, why?

TerrierSlave · 06/11/2025 07:24

I’ve always voted, but I think I’ll just not be voting at all the next election the way things stand. There’s not a single party I can, in good conscience, vote for.

RampantIvy · 06/11/2025 07:25

No, because our local MP is excellent.

SapphOhNo · 06/11/2025 07:26

As ever, for me it's about voting for the least bad. So, no.

HelpMeGetThrough · 06/11/2025 07:28

Yep, will vote the same. My cross didn’t go in the box for the shit show that are in government.

LavenderBlue19 · 06/11/2025 07:29

Probably vote the same. I voted Lib Dem because they stood the best chance of beating the Tories in our area, the candidate (now MP) seemed great, and I think getting back into the EU would be the best thing this country could do to improve everyone's lives.

The likelihood seems to be that it'll be Reform rather than Tories next time, but the same feeling stands.

countingdowntotheholidays · 06/11/2025 07:31

Our new local MP (Lib Dem) is excellent - making progress on local issues that the previous stale Tory MP hadn’t touched. It’s just a shame that the Lib Dem leader’s style is well-intentioned clowning to get airtime. It doesn’t make them look like a credible alternative party.

I’m still glad the Conservatives lost the election, I was at the end of my tether with them!

Thepeopleversuswork · 06/11/2025 07:36

Don’t know and I have been agonising over this.

I have always voted Labour but am so disillusioned and frustrated with this government that if it weren’t for the spectre of Reform I might be considering voting Tory, something I never thought I would say. No point in voting Green or LibDem where I am.

The reason I almost certainly won’t vote Tory is that I think they will need Reform to gain power and thats a line I will never cross. My only real objective is to keep Reform out.

So I probably will resentfully be voting Labour again. My (Labour) MP is good and that’s honestly all I have to hold onto.

Miserable state of affairs.

(Edited for typo).

countingdowntotheholidays · 06/11/2025 07:37

I think a Reform Government would be an absolute disaster for the country. It’s the dregs of the Tories! Wouldn’t be surprised if Johnson joins them as he’s self-serving and would happily jump on a band wagon that he could then bungle (see Brexit.)

alqggapwbnch · 06/11/2025 07:38

I couldn’t possibly say who I would vote for in 4 years time, I don’t know who is standing for my area and haven’t seen much of our MP thus far. But when I did the ‘who should I vote for quiz’ last time it said I agreed mostly with Lib Dem, I’d like to vote for them but they’re not really a viable candidate in my area, but maybe next time of all the times to vote how you want. But then I’m scared Reform will get in, I’m in an area with a Reform council 🙄

BlossomLeaves · 06/11/2025 07:39

Possibly, it depends who makes the most sense tactically to keep the party/parties I definitely don’t want in power out. Wish it wasn’t like that and I could vote positively but that’s the seriously flawed political system we have to work with.

HRTQueen · 06/11/2025 07:43

Likely to keep voting Labour

I have not been overly impressed with them so far but I more in line politically than with other parties. Starmer will be challenged for leadership before the next election (thankfully it won’t be Rayner) and depending on who of leading the Tories and Reforms popularity keeping Starmer as leader cousonbe a mistake. I’m hoping Andy Burnham will be leading by the next election and hope he hasn’t burnt his bridges

Thepeopleversuswork · 06/11/2025 07:54

@HRTQueen

I’m hoping Andy Burnham will be leading by the next election and hope he hasn’t burnt his bridges.

I have been thinking this too. I think Starmer/Reeves are toast, sadly. I really wanted it to work for them but I think this income tax thing is going to sink them.

But although I respect Andy Burnham and he has more balls and vision than Starmer, I’m not convinced he is going to be able to reverse the mess that they have created so far. And the caveat is that I know they inherited a horrendous mess from the Tories etc but Starmer just doesn’t seem to be capable of actually standing for anything.

Livelovebehappy · 06/11/2025 08:05

I know I won’t be voting these clowns in again. And definitely won’t be voting in the Tories - they had 14 years to get it right, and failed. I’m veering towards Reform, but will wait to see their manifesto in full before the GE.

MidnightPatrol · 06/11/2025 08:06

They are all as bad as each other.

None seem able to implement any real change.

Genevieva · 06/11/2025 08:07

Yes. I will vote in whatever strategic way gets this government out of power, even if I have to hold my nose to do it. I will never vote Labour again.

MajesticWhine · 06/11/2025 08:11

Based on where we are now I would vote the same but I am not tribal about politics so I will weigh up the different parties at the time.

Theonlyfatmiddleagedwomannotonmonjaro · 06/11/2025 08:13

Im hoping in the next 4 and a half years something might have changed for the better. A new party?? Please I hope so. This is the ONLY positive I can think of. 4 more years of this is frankly terrifying.

There's no one party I would vote for, im really struggling. The current shit show is near the top of the top of the no thank you list at the moment.

countingdowntotheholidays · 06/11/2025 08:14

I think Keir Starmer is probably a very principled, decent man but he’s not charismatic or popular both of which win elections.

I don’t think Andy Burnham would be popular with floating voters, would be perceived as too leftie for many. I also think his style is quite dogmatic and I favour more diplomatic politicians. I’ve always thought Yvette Cooper comes across as intelligent, measured and not a push over. I think it might be like putting Hilary Clinton up against Trump though and unfortunately we know how that turned out!

StandFirm · 06/11/2025 08:16

I wish Rory Stewart would make a political comeback. I'd vote for a genuinely centrist party that doesn't tell business to fuck itself and embraces the rule of law (ie punish people for what they DO not what they ARE).
Reform and the Tories (since the Boris purge of all non-Brexit fanatics) would drive the nail in the coffin; by the way, the Tories were the ones ending the non dom status which has driven a huge number of wealthy foreigners away (we actually NEEDED and still need their tax contribution but that's populism for you). Reform is mindlessly following a script written in Washington; all they sell is division. It's sheer stupidity and it's dangerous. Labour doesn't have the courage to bring in measures that would restart growth and is driving more business and more wealth away from the UK; it's not possible to tax our way back to growth. The LibDems can't strategise their way out of a paper bag.

Freysimo · 06/11/2025 08:17

Andy Burnham is not an MP, therefore ineligible. Yvette Cooper has a very small majority as does Wes Streeting so both unlikely.

CrowMate · 06/11/2025 08:17

I’m like many others here, I don’t know who I’d vote for in good conscience. I absolutely know who I wouldn’t, though and would be willing to vote tactically to try and keep Reform out of power.

Your first point is the kind of dangerous thinking (not you specifically, across society) that led us to Boris Johnson. And what’s mental is I think people, the media and history will be kinder to BJ over KS due to that ‘charisma’.

It is fascinating that being principled and good just generally isn’t enough to garner favour.

I would totally vote for Rory Stewart now but I don’t know if he’s robust enough to see off the Reform tendency.

I don't know - I think there are a lot of homeless voters like you and me. The whole centre has been totally disenfranchised and I do think we're the majority.

marginallyawake · 06/11/2025 08:20

I’ll be voting tactically, so probably, yes.
