Will you change who you vote for at the next General Election?

Pandersmum · 06/11/2025 07:22

We all had our own reasons for voting as we did in the 2024 general election.

Knowing what you now know, would you still vote for who you voted in 2024?

if you would vote differently, why?

The handful of council elections last night were terrible for Labour. They lost every seat they were defending and looks like they got single figure percentages each time. Wonder how long Starmer has got

If the May elections next year are a catastrophe then he’ll be under a lot of pressure to go.

Personally, I think he isn’t really up to it - not that he isn’t intelligent and highly competent, but rather he just isn’t slick enough with the media, seems incapable of dictating the narrative and getting out the good news stories, and isn’t enough of a politician.

I hate this chopping and changing of leaders and prime ministers, and I’m sick of all the instability and nonsense, but fear that might happen. If they do, then there’s really only one option who has popular appeal, media-savvy, and who can play the political game - and who I think the opposing parties would fear. And sadly he doesn’t currently have a seat.

Yep, will vote the same. My cross didn’t go in the box for the shit show that are in government.

This.

How can we know at this stage? The next election is not until 2029, we haven't seen any manifestos etc.... I didn't vote Labour last time, and I'm not at all surprised by how poor they've been, but I always try to consider every party at each election , before deciding on my choice.

I’m not surprised, they’ve driven everyone down.

Who would that be? I can only think of Andy Burnham.

edwinbear · 07/11/2025 07:23

I didn’t vote for this current bunch of clowns as it was so blindingly obvious what a disaster they would be. So I’ll be voting the same. Unfortunately we do have to elect Labour once every generation just so everyone understands what carnage they cause and don’t do it again.

PermanentTemporary · 07/11/2025 07:25

My tactical Lib Dem vote has become at least partially a positive vote for my local MP who is pretty good. I dont require my MP to agree with me on everything. If it looked as if Labour could win here I would vote Labour, I think this government is quite good.

Alexandra2001 · 07/11/2025 07:31

Yes would vote Labour again - in 2024 - our MP is great and its too early too say what i'll do in 2029.

But as usual we get the abnormal suspects saying how terrible Labour are ... its as if the the last 14 years of chaos never happened.....

There is a reason the Tories have just 119 MPs and are predicted to win just 60 seats next time.

Whoever we get in 29, at least it wont be a Tory Govt, that party is dead now... how many defections to Reform?

I would vote the same but i think there is a real danger of reform getting in where i live so i may have to vote tory 😳

our system is broken, there needs to be immense changes regarding how how political system works and quite honestly i think its too big for one party to do 🤷🏻

Reform is conservative with another name. They have have more shit career politicians who fucked the country over than the original party now.

What's left of tory mark 1 is incompetent, tory mark 2 is full of liers and grifters.

Going by votes at by-elections people are realising.

Wordsmithery · 07/11/2025 09:01

Terrifyingly, I may have to vote Conservative next time as that may be the only way to stop Reform getting in. What an awful situation to be in.

StandFirm · 07/11/2025 09:11

Because whichever government gets elected has far more impact on my life, and the life of the country, than one good MP. My MP is excellent and a decent chap, one of the very few survivors of Boris Johnson's purge of moderate Tories - but I cannot in all conscience vote for him because in doing so I am enabling the wider Conservative party, who's policies I oppose. I would rather have an ineffectual MP, than a Conservative or Reform government.

This in my view highlights the fundamental flaw in our parliamentary system: there is a built-in conflict of interest in many constituencies which really muddies the waters.

Echobelly · 07/11/2025 09:27

I'll probably vote Green or Lib Dems next election depending on who has the best candidate. I voted Labour last time to get the Tories out and I still don't regret it even though I the government's been an even bigger disappointment than I feared. Our seat has flipped Labour/Tory a few times. I think Dems or Greens would poll better than Reform here, but wouldn't guarantee it. It's a pain as I know either vote risks letting the Tories back in or maybe even Reform if they do better than Tories or Labour. I don't mind taxes etc, I just can't stand that Labour is aping the right- it's totally futile and counterproductive.

surprisebaby12 · 07/11/2025 09:30

Greens again; but this time I’ll have more confidence that they can get in

Completely agreed - tactical voting is the completely predictable consequence of using a voting system designed for a two-party system in a multi-party democracy - half the voters, rather than voting for the party they want, are voting to stop the party they least want.

Yes. I’ve generally been a Labour voter since the 70’s. Except under Corbyn. 🙄

But, this lot are beyond useless, so I’ll vote elsewhere next time, although never Tory. 👍

Wishihadanalgorithm · 07/11/2025 18:22

My vote won’t change. I didn’t vote for these clowns in government.

PandoraAvatar · 07/11/2025 18:25

I would vote in exactly the same way. My Tory MP is brilliant. I knew this government would be a disaster and I quietly seethe at all those who inflicted them upon us all.

Because the previous 14 years were so brilliant 🙄

FinePoint · 07/11/2025 18:29

I'll vote against Labour. No idea who I'll vote for, but it will probably have to be Conservative or Reform. Not thrilled about either, though.

Parky04 · 07/11/2025 18:35

Yes, because it's unlikely the Independent will be running again.

Cattenberg · 07/11/2025 20:22

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 07/11/2025 06:48

Yes at General Election if the same candidate stood. So disappointed he didn't get reelected as he was very good and local.

I'm disappointed at local level though, we got rid of some good experienced councillors who were always around the neighbourhoods doing stuff and replaced them with ones that are invisible.

But if recent local elections and by-elections are anything to go by Labour will be out.

They are rarely anything to go by. More often than not, the governing party gets a hammering at local elections and often at by-elections too.

Cinnamon77 · 08/11/2025 10:04

True but some of the polls this week have Labour in 4th place and on their lowest ever vote share (15%).

Labour are pinning all their hopes now on an anti Reform vote - but if they start to consistently fall behind the Greens in the polls then that bloc will just vote Green, and Labour could well be wiped out
