Breakfast before school

Breakfast Eating GIF

I am just curious. What are your children eating for breakfast before school?

We’ve got into a habit of making scrambled eggs and a toast. My 8 year old makes this by herself most mornings. Occasionally, if there’s bacon in the house, she’ll throw in a rasher or two!

We don’t do cereal. Mainly because it slides into sugary shit plus we don’t drink milk so wouldn’t know what to put with it (daughter had an intolerance as a baby and we just never got back into it).

The teacher told me she has children in the class eating chocolate bars for breakfast - but is this really true?

Curious what others do

Eggs, porridge, fruit, crumpet/toast

totally normal

cereal sometimes but like you say, it’s sugary shit

Arent crumpets sugary shit? I love a crumpet, especially with a poached egg on but think of them as a junky food. Going to buy some today now I think of it

Eh?
Crumpets are no more sugary than bread. They aren’t especially sweet although shop bought will have sugar in then. The ones I have are 2% sugars.

They have a really high glycaemic index, when I had gestational diabetes crumpets spiked my blood sugar over 13, similar to rice crispies and orange juice. They're upf. They definitely are not good breakfast items for kids unless also served with eggs or other protein. It's not just the sugar it's the simple carbs

They were absolutely fine for my GD in moderation, no different to bread which I could have once a day and I managed mine with diet alone. So paired with the right fats I could have them. But your comment was that they are “sugary” which is not the same thing at all.

I don’t five a rats arse about eating some UPF though. Life is too short for that nonsense. Balanced diets are what are needed, no hysteria over carbs and my DD will have them once or twice a week.

It’s shocking how much crap is pumped into cereals and white bread. Did you know the added vitamins “folic acid” is not suitable for those with adhd as they can’t absorb this synthetic version (folate is the natural substance).

I have read every packed going. Now buy oats, shredded wheat/bitesize or the new M&S cereals with the ingredients listed on the packed ie. 100% corn or 5 ingredient hoops. Even the assumed healthy weetabix are awful.

if you don’t have milk, oat milk is great on cereal or to make lovely creamy porridge, or coconut milk is lovely to make porridge too with raspberries, so no sugar, loads of seeds too.

I don't either but crumpets are no better than cereal is my point while you seem to consider them superior.
