UNHINGED woman screaming at me for “putting my dog in boot”

I don’t deny my dog was in the boot of my (saloon) car for 30 secs. BUT we get the dog to jump in the boot where we have towels to give him a wipe down before putting him on the back seat. The boot is totally self contained so OBVIOUSLY it would be very bloody cruel.

Did this yesterday and this nutter comes screaming over from the other side of the park’s car park asking if I was serious. I tried explaining to her what I was doing but she wouldn’t have any of it. It was really weird. I said go look at the backseat of my car where you will see a dog seatbelt and car seat cover. Clearly a set up for the dog. But she refused to look. Said I was only putting the dog in the back cause I got caught out. Took photos of my license plate and said she was going to post me online and report me. What the actual fuck. She was an inch from my face at one point.

It’s so bizarre!

Boot is like this. IMO it’s not acceptable to put a dog in this (unless you put the seat down like a pp described)

This is perfectly acceptable for a dog to travel in if you wanted, The woman was batshit you have nothing to worry about.

My dog travels in the boot as a normal thing. He has a dog lead and harness that's strapped in. The boot is lined as to protect the car and he also has towels and a toy with him while travelling although he likes to watch out the window.
We also have his walking equipment, poo bags, bowl and water supplies in the boot.
If someone came screaming at me I'd tell them to get stuffed.

There's nothing wrong with a dog travelling in the boot anyway! My dog used to. You take the shelf out so they can sit up and look out the window, put their bed back there and they're happy as Larry.

Yes this is how my dog travels … don’t see the problem.

Seems that the famous Mumsnet illiterati are out in force, their numbers concentrated by the added prefix of “dog owning” (no offence).

Yes, it would be unacceptable to transport a dog in the boot of a saloon car with the back seats still in place, which is what this woman believed she was witnessing the preamble of.

No, the fact that dogs can be perfectly happily accommodated in the boot of a hatchback or estate car (or even a saloon with the seat folded down) has no bearing on this matter.

And thus everyone should understand why people are worried about their pace being put on social media

I'm just amazed you were restrained enough to not punch her in the face if she was screaming at you from only an inch away. It's self defence. I regard being screamed at that close up as assault. It physically feels like a punch doesn't it?

My dog always travels in the boot. She is well trained to tolerate it and has very positive associations with it, she jumps in willingly and settles down in her bed. It's essentially a crate, so the same size rules apply, as long they dog can fully stand, sit and turn they should be okay.

On a side note, what I see all the time which annoys me is unsecured dogs. Lots of people sue doggy seatbelts for the protection of the dog, but actually they aren't going to do much in a big crash and unfortunately a dog cannot really be kept safe in any car travelling at speed. What they are for is to restrain any dog which could become agitated and/or dangerous in the event of a crash. My dog is as calm and controlled as they come but in a motorway crash I am realistic to know she would be confused, scared and protective of us, and would be a danger and possibly prevent paramedics from assisting my family. So the boot with a bar it is. Would never about at a stranger for it though lol.

Oh for goodness sake, this iisn't that kind of "boot". OP's boot is the kind that's completely enclosed and, to all intents and purposes, is separate to the rest of the car. It's not the luggage space at the back of a hatchback or estate car. The latter is ok - thousands upon thousands of us do it - but a boot with a tin lid is not ok. That is the sort of boot the OP has.
Totally agree with the rest of your post though. It's exactly what we do but that's because it's a luggage area rather than a boot with a tin lid.

You appear not to understand... As a previous poster correctly said, comprehension skills are sadly lacking from many on this thread. It wasn't that sort of a boot. It's a dark, closed box when shut. No access to the rest of the car. OK?

I was responding to someone else … jog on. Ok?
