If you didn’t need to work for money, what job would you do?

Say you’ve not got a minimum amount you need to earn, you just want to keep working to have some money of your own.

what job would you do?

Driving the golf cart thing around the airport terminal to get people to their gate, or driving the big stair car up to the plane.

TamarindCottage · 05/11/2025 09:36

I’d work in a yarn store (with a book shop + cafe), knitting and crocheting all day, engaging with customers and fondling yarn I couldn’t otherwise afford. Bliss

whatsnewpussycat34 · 05/11/2025 09:37

I’d like to work in a community centre for the elderly a couple of days a week. Get some karaoke on the go, cocktail hour, dancing. Anything that makes them happy.

Sadly, I have to have a very boring financial services job that destroys my soul on a daily basis.

I'd like to write children's books.

I can't leave my job, as it pays ok and the pension is great, but I'd like to write alongside it.

I actually planned on doing a BBC maestro writing course this month as there was a sale on, but the sale had finished by the time payday came 😭

I'd like to have written 2 books by this time next year (unpublished is fine, as long as I'm happy with them)

Write as much as you can. Carve out free time to jot down your ideas. If you wake in the night dictate your thoughts. You can write novels and work full time but you might have to forego sleep!

Good luck 💐

Book store, apparently certain large bookstores give an amazing discount, I spend a fortune on books so that would be fabulous!

I spend every day working from home stuck in front of a computer so I would work part time somewhere where I get to chat to people, like a cafe or a salon.

Can you not get an office job?

00deed1988 · 05/11/2025 09:45

I would continue my job (midwife) but less hours! Can't imagine not doing this job and don't want to. As stressful as it is and I hate the politics. The actual real part of the job providing care and assisting women deliver their babies is the best feeling in the world and I feel lucky to be able to be part of it. I genuinely think even if I won the lottery I couldn't let my registration lapse, I would do bank shifts to keep it!

MuttNutty · 05/11/2025 09:47

What I do now - I’m a dog trainer.

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 05/11/2025 09:48

Part time at a riding school for the disabled and part time pole dance instructor and professional dancer (like in big shows not in a lap dance club).

Mayflower282 · 05/11/2025 06:00

@Kittylickingplatetwo whats an almoner?

A bit like a Social Worker but also follow up with appointments, sit with someone poorly or in distress.
Not religious though.

Hoppinggreen · 05/11/2025 12:36

I would do my current job - Relocation Consultant.
I am SE so would probably just turn down more work than I currently do, although to be honest I could do that now if I wanted to

WalkingWavy · 05/11/2025 12:38

I’d be one of those people who shows you around potential houses. I’d love doing all the research about the house too so I could answer any questions the buyer would have

HorrorAndHaagenDazs · 05/11/2025 12:38

Id travel america and europe documenting abandoned buildings with a focus on asylums and hospitals, and probably produce a book/fine art prints.

Nothungrycat · 06/11/2025 11:49

I'd work in a plant nursery, propagating and caring for plants and only occasionally interacting with customers.

Sounreal · 06/11/2025 12:07

XWKD · 05/11/2025 05:43

Perfumer.

Me too, though I already am. Would just do this full time!

Sounreal · 06/11/2025 12:08

So many amazing ideas, estee, chocolate tasting, tea shop (thinking more like mariage freres though!)

givemushypeasachance · 06/11/2025 12:20

Probably dog walker. I don't have a dog myself. But the idea of low-pressure dog walking, so not needing to have six at once and cram as many walks as possible, going around collecting the dogs and taking them for a nice stomp in the woods or on the beach, often listening to a podcast, getting fresh air and steps in. Brill. Sure sometimes it'll be cold and pissing down but it's nice to get warm and dry afterwards.

Nourishinghandcream · 06/11/2025 12:27

I would volunteer at one of my favourite museums.

LoveSandbanks · 06/11/2025 12:36

I think dog walker. I did think about becoming a personal trainer in retirement but I much prefer dogs to people.

TwelvePiecesOfFlair · 06/11/2025 12:43

Film director. Or sculptor. I can’t believe someone said working in a deli ! I’ve done that, it’s a rubbish job!

Derpytiger · 06/11/2025 12:53

I used to be a zoo keeper and also the person who gives talks about the animals. It is a lovely job but very very hard work physically so not for someone who wants an easy time. Also the people weren't particularly welcoming.

I would love to teach about animals. I have always loved talking to kids about animals. I work in the animal welfare sector and it's one of my favourite things to do. Id love to write books too.

CorneliaCupp · 06/11/2025 12:55

I would work at a charity for the homeless or addicts. That would be my dream! Sadly, such jobs pay very little and I have bills!

Apacketofbiscuitsaday · 06/11/2025 12:57

I don't and I work with kids in a primary school.
