To give up on dungarees because going the loo is such a sodding mission?

Day 2 of wearing dungarees.

I thought they would be a useful addition to the wardrobe for my WFH/country muddy walks in addition to jeans. So far, I have almost dropped the straps in the loo twice and found myself deciding not to make another cup of tea to stave off the loo shenanigans.

Is it just me??

I am 60 have never worn any.

Tamfs · 04/11/2025 10:29

I have some soft ones that I just pull the leg up and to one side for a wee, would they suit you better?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 04/11/2025 10:31

You can try dropping the straps on your approach to the loo, and shuffling the last few steps before turning round - this can help prevent the 'strap down the loo', but really only works when you're at home.

I gave up wearing dungarees because they made me look like a fat Andy Pandy, but the toilet issue did contribute.

DeedlessIndeed · 04/11/2025 10:32

Ooh good to know, I've been considering some for around the house. Can't be doing with faff though, so probably not for me.

PracticalPixie · 04/11/2025 10:34

I feel the same! I have one sleeveless jumpsuit/dungarees in my wardrobe, but i keep it for summer when I won't be wearing a coat or anything, as going to the loo in them is so irksome.

FuzzyWolf · 04/11/2025 10:34

YANBU and it always amazes me why people insist on putting young children in them (or onesies on dress down days at school).

ChatBotBelly · 04/11/2025 10:34

Same when play suits were in fashion. Those tiny poppers at the bottom — no.

Jumpsuits are even worse. Going to a grotty loo at the beach and sitting there pretty much naked trying to stop your clothes touching the floor 🤮

Noooooo! Don't ruin my jumpsuit plan you fiend 😂

Noting never to wear it to the beach - I know the exact loos you mean 🤢🤢🤢

I can't figure out the logistics of this 😂

TheCrenchinglyMcQuaffenBrothers · 04/11/2025 11:03

Ditto jumpsuits, which is really annoying because for some reason they really suit me. I’ve got a gorgeous one that I was going to wear on NYE but realised the logistics + wine intake will render them dangerous.

BarnacleBeasley · 04/11/2025 11:04

The ones where you undo the straps are a bit risky for going to the loo. The ones where you tie the straps in a knot and can just slide them down your shoulders are okay, as they're not going to dangle. I would never wear dungarees for a country walk though, especially in winter, as you'd have to take your coat off if you needed a wee in a bush.

No dungarees for children aged 2+ due to potty training. I don't know why they even make them for 4 year olds.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 04/11/2025 13:52

Ive never bought a jumpsuit for the same reason. Actually, TBF I had both dungarees and a jumpsuit in the 1980s, but I had a much stronger bladder then!

How does that even work 🤔🤔

Edited

This ... I have a lovely one but I just know that I'll end up having a wardrobe malfunction in it....and I'm not even much of a pisshead any more....never worn it.

😂 they are soft, loose and stretchy, so take the hem of one leg, pull it upwards and then over to one side with the knickers. Pee. Wipe. Let it all go, let the leg roll back down. It's not going to with denim.

Mokel · 04/11/2025 14:09

Bodies are just as bad for the toilet. Have seen women walking around town with the fastening flapping at the back over their waistband.

I had a onesie which I gave up as had to remove the top half off your body to use it. Men can just unzip, pull down and pull out.....

Hardcabinet · 04/11/2025 14:14

I know I am being an unreasonable bitch but dungarees on grown women look awful (unless you are a CBBC presenter).

nomas · 04/11/2025 14:16

We need to make like China and have detachable crotch buttons in the dungarees.

InTheNotswolds · 04/11/2025 14:22

I am not alone!!

I am now sitting at my desk with my dungas undone to the waist to enable easy loo access, hidden by a long jumper in case I need to answer the door. This might not be a long term solution.

I can't even be bothered with the toilet faff of a swimsuit, it's tankinis all the way. And that's considerably less effort than dungarees or playsuits/jumpsuits

I love tankinis, with some Slazenger swim shorts which come up just above the knee. Minimises shaving.

Ah, see, I was like this, until a friend suggested moving the crotch aside to pee. It works well! No wee on swimsuit (which I was concerned about). You just have to make sure you have your tissue ready as it’s hard to pull off the roll with one hand!

gerispringer · 04/11/2025 14:31

I love my denim dungarees- you just slip strap off one shoulder, undo a button at the side and away you go. No more difficult than undoing jeans. I do the pull to one side thing in a swimsuit tho.

sonjadog · 04/11/2025 14:33

The loo thing you will get used to. When I undo my dungas, I hold the straps in one hand to the side to stop them either falling in or trailing on the ground.
