Thinking dominos, some card or phone betrayal game. All go home at 10ish unless they need to stay the night.

Aibu to ask for advice or is this perfect?

Ok so let’s move on.
you want it to be a success
so honestly… I’d be led entirely by your daughter on this

and does she know you’ll be asking for pick up at 10pm? Because o suspect that’s the first thing she’s going to ask to change

A pick up at 11pm might be ok if at the weekend. They are usually night owls anyway.

Guess I’m thinking of parents picking up as a lot are from the villages. It will be a Friday night so it doesn’t really bother me.

For a 16th I’m happy to collect up to midnight

Waitwater · 02/12/2025 20:02

Is your daughter aware of what you have planned or were you doing it as a surprise?

Yes, 16th-18ths here all the parties have uniformly been an 11.30pm pick up/chuck out time, it seems to be an unwritten rule locally. Don't annoy your neighbours after midnight, and what time will we 50 year old parents manage to stay awake until 😆

I can’t see this being something your 16 year old will be very happy with @Sometimeswinning . 13 friends sitting in the lounge with a chocolate fountain and some popcorn and then they all traipse off at 10pm.

I shall change it all for you 🤣 Honestly, she’s happy, I’m happy. I’ve ordered a chocolate fountain.

We’re all good. Parents giving lifts are good. Dd is good. Her friends are all coming.

To be fair they all have personalities. That may help!

I feel like people care way more than I do! Honestly. I don’t think you realise I’m planning a party for my 16 year old. Not yours.

I get it’s Friday night though!

I hope your 15 year old enjoys the party. My DC of a similar age would enjoy that.

I’m not sure why I’m so invested but I’d assume you meant dominos the game but then someone mentioned pizza & I’m thinking that’s probably more likely. Which is it?

It’s pizza! Yes it got a bit boring with posters coming on just to put it down. I think others forget not everyone wants the big party. 16 isn’t a big deal for her.

They’ll have all the space downstairs. My only job is to make the rooms look pretty and special. I’m happy to buy things as she’s so low maintenance and hasn’t asked for anything really. Apart from her presents!

I had the party just before Christmas. All laughed and had a lovely time. Dd was very happy. Her friends were lush. Spent too much on pizzas as they all chose to play games rather than eat so we had pizza for lunch and dinner for the last 2 days before Christmas!

All those who struggled with my plans. Turned out I was right.
