To assume the cat is actually this much of an arsehole on purpose??

Back from holiday today and the cat is AWOL. Been back about 5 hours with no sign of her. She has form for this.

We went away a few years ago and my Mum came in to feed her. Cat disappeared for several days which led to my mum losing a lot of sleep and planning how she was going to tell us she'd lost the cat (DM is a worrier).

To avoid the trauma to DM we asked a friend to feed her next time we went away and friend didn't see the cat for the whole 10 days, but had to assume all was ok-ish as some cat was coming in to eat the food. I really didn't enjoy the holiday as friend was honest about the cat situation (even though she took to spending hours at our house to try and spot the cat) and 10 days of no sightings was enough to remind me I am my mother's daughter. When we got back it was about 4 hours before the cat returned.

I pushed that next time we spent money on a cattery so i'd at least know where she was but cattery owner was honest on pick up that she hadn't settled and had seemed quite scared the whole time. Cat shouted at us constantly for 48 hours when we finally got her home.

So this holiday we asked a friend's daughter to stay for the week, thinking that would be nicer for the cat to be at home, but with company. She apparently did stay around and friend's daughter took some nice photos of her but now we're back.... crickets.

This is a cat who spends all day and half the night on my pillow when we're all at home.

So,
You are being unreasonable = you should be worried, you heartless human monster.

You are not being unreasonable = she's punishing you and she knows exactly what she's doing. Hold your ground.

Well cats are arseholes. Ours strolled into the playroom, looked my kid in the eye, yaked on the floor and walked out. He was indignant about it.

MMmomDD · 31/10/2025 19:53

@dogscatsandbabies
You can is just stressed and this is how she shows it. Let her deal with her ‘emotions’ in a way that works for her.
She is not a human - but does have instincts, preferences and feelings (of sorts).

Luckily - they don’t have ability to hold a grudge for long term.

As requested, the queen giving me what for (not taken today. She remains elusive.)

Well why didn’t you say she was black?! It’s Halloween week. She’s got more important things to do!

Achewyhamster · 31/10/2025 19:58

A friend of mine used to go away to visit her adult dd leaving her cats with a cat slave

She had two cats, one didnt give a fuck (if she'd been a human, she would have been the party girl-always out but staggers home just as the sun comes up) and her brother (if he'd been human,he would have been the grumpy old man,sat in his chair and smoking his pipe) and he did give a fuck

She left her open suitcase on the table, went to the loo and when she got back,he'd pissed on top of everything

She wasn't happy but I swear he smirked

Cats will cat

thecatlikesmebest · 31/10/2025 19:58

We use a cat sitter who calls once a day. She seldom sees him but he obviously comes in and eats the food. On the odd occasion he's there she sends me a picture labelled according to how cross he is from just disapproving to furious.
I've told him he's very lucky to be left at home instead of cat prison.

Overtheatlantic · 31/10/2025 19:58

She’s gorgeous! I hope she appears soon and isn’t outside on Halloween.

menopausalfart · 31/10/2025 20:01

I'm sure cats are interdimensional. She's just gone to stay with her holiday family for a while.

SqB · 31/10/2025 20:03

They often have a back up home for these kind of abandonments and periods of neglect 🤣 she’s probably had a great holiday.

Aw she’s a beauty, I have one almost identical, right down to the white spot. She’ll be back, lots of cuddles and dreamies…they like routine, you disrupted hers, that’s all.

We also have an almost identical cat, also with the white spot (we call it a bow tie), except ours is male.

LasagneLasagne · 31/10/2025 20:06

Whenever we return from being away, our cat is waiting by front door with a disapproving look and mewing furiously - 'Oh, there you are. Feed me then, you bastards.'

foodlovefood · 31/10/2025 20:10

Mine always tells me when unhappy. She is 26 year old grumpy cat. Used to go to a cattery. She loved one cattery as the women gave lots of attention and she had a heater. That one closed down. The next one was basic but lovely. She hide constantly, looked terrified when I collected her and avoided me when she came home but kept shouting from any room

now have a cat sitter. She gets to go out and lots of attention. Looks happy and purrs lots in photos and videos. But when I come home she runs away and avoids me. Makes me beg for attention. And is an arse.

But I once lived with an ex where her arseness was a secretly appreciated. Ex turned into a horrible person and I was planned to leave. Think my grumpy old cat knew I was unhappy. So she started to pee on the carpets. Bet found no issue. I moved out and she has never peed anywhere since. Think she got my revenge!

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 31/10/2025 20:14

Cat is a dickhead and punishing your for forcing her into having to deal with untrained peasants who are not aware of her particular penchant for insert favourite area for fussing

If it is any consolation @dogscatsandbabies we have a 14 year old old bag who literally never leaves dd's bedroom in winter unless we happen to go away and abandon her to the secondary servant (my dad who incidentally spends hours here fashioning toys out of whatever he can find til my mum rings to ask wtf he is doing -all on camera cos the idiot forgets i have internal and external ones) and then fucks off outside, never far from the house but flat out refuses to come in/eat and so looks even more waif and stray like than normal.

My former neighbour was blind and therefore had a gardener, they carried on tending to the grass after neighbour died and thought the cat had been the neighbour's (also a very close friend) as cat could often be found sat on neighbour's stairs/bathroom windowsill...youbalways knew when she had jumped through the window when neighbour was on the loo by the scream from the neighbour. Anyway the point was, the Gardener was so convinced he phoned his wife to fetch food and contact onto for next of kin until I went out, realised what was going on and collected said cat.

The cat is incredibly well fed. She only eats Sheba finest cuts in jelly...godforbid Asda substitutes for gravy...she is verybwell loved. But was a stray before we adopted her -handed over control of our house- has a heart condition and generally looks like no one loves her.

She is however a complete arsehole...and dont even get me started on the 2 yesr old hooligan who literally punches you in the face at 3am if her food bowl does not have the optimum depth of biscuits in it

GirlsInGreen · 31/10/2025 20:43

Cats think you've been killed on the hunt when you go missing - she's out looking for you🥹

Blueuggboots · 31/10/2025 21:08

She’s punishing you.
ok, bear with me when I say this…do you tell her when you’re going away and how long you’re going away for??
I listened to a really interesting podcast about animals and telepathy and it said in that to talk to your animals and tell them what you’re doing.
I do this to my cat when I’m going away and I swear he’s not as pissed with me when I come back as he used to be?!!

(I am a sane person with a responsible job and yes, I talk to my cats!!!) 🐈‍⬛

Hallywally · 31/10/2025 21:12

I have two very friendly clingy cats (Ragdolls) who follow me around constantly. A known friend came to stay while we were on holiday and they just transferred all their behaviours onto the friend- following him around constantly 😂 I’m glad they don’t get upset while I’m gone but also think I could be exchanged for any kind food slave and they wouldn’t care!

Endofyear · 31/10/2025 22:33

I think most cats are arseholes to be honest 😂

Remember, if they were bigger, they would kill you 🦁

after reading your comment I said to my DCat “I love you and it’s nice when you sleep near me”, to which she got up and moved further away from me. So in conclusion I think cats can be arseholes.

any sign OP?

dogscatsandbabies · 01/11/2025 07:40

She's home and also she's not an arsehole.

She was stuck in a garage. We had a very sleepless night listening to howling wind, pouring rain and fireworks; we knew by 1am that she wasn't sulking and something had to be wrong. Sat up watching the Diplomat (recommend) and then i went out at 7 to shake dreamies and wander about calling her. She called back and both myself, and the neighbour whose garage she was in could hear her. Very fortunate to find the right the right person up early on a Saturday!

We have one of those cat flaps that is linked to the internet (pet sure? I think), you can see the times our cats have come in and out. Its really useful for the lady who looks after our cats as one of our cats goes awol a lot and is never around when she feeds them in the morning or evening.

Left · 01/11/2025 07:52

Aw so glad she’s home, poor thing getting trapped after the trauma of you being away. Hope she’s getting all the treats and fusses now x

Needmorelego · 01/11/2025 08:22

@dogscatsandbabies oh poor little lady 🥺
At least she was trapped somewhere indoors so wasn't out in the horrible weather.

ConnieHeart · 01/11/2025 08:27

EchoedSilence · 31/10/2025 18:58

Cat are arseholes in general.

I've been very lucky then as every single cat I've had has been a non-arsehole. The ginger tom next door though.....

HRTQueen · 01/11/2025 09:08

My old cat would start with the I’m going to make it obvious I’m ignoring you behaviour as soon as the suitcases came out

I would always have a friend stay and from video evidence and their accounts he seemed very happy

on our return he would sit in the middle of the lounge with his back to us (usually stuck to me) making his point for a few days

my cat now loves to follow me about always likes to be close but I know she wouldn’t give a fuck if she was getting as much food and fuss elsewhere she often pops into neighbours for a catch up jumps up on their sofas makes herself at home like she belongs there and kindly allows them to tickle her tummy

HRTQueen · 01/11/2025 09:10

Aww glad she is home

but you do know** you are going to pay for this …

BlackeyedSusan · 01/11/2025 09:13

Next doors cat never really talked to me until owner went away. Then he came and shouted at me and demanded attention, which was given.
