Ryanair

Ryanair are driving me mad!

Two months ago my flight home was delayed by 22 hours. I was already at the airport when they told me. There were a lot of stressed people at the airport. Originally, they sent us a text saying that they would book us a hotel. Then the airport staff told us all that we had to book our own hotel and then submit expenses claims to be reimbursed.

I came home and went on the Ryanair webite.

When I go to "submit a claim for expenses" it asks me to enter the flight number. When i enter the flight number it says "you can't submit a claim, as this flight was delayed for less than three hours".

That is totally incorrect. It was delayed for 22 hours. I went onto chat to ryanair support. They told me to submit a query on the submit a query section. I did that . I just got an automatic response saying "we are sorry about your flight delay, to find out what you are entitled to click on this link. "

I went back to ryanair chat support. They told me to submit another query. I did. Got the same response.

It is really annoying me that I cant submit a claim. I feel they have purposefully put an incorrect flight delay time on the website, so no one can submit a claim.

Has this happened to anyone. What can I do?

Sorry no advice but I hope you get it sorted. Have you tried making an official complaint? Do you have any proof that it was delayed by 22hours so you can prove them wrong?

Yes I have lots of proof that it was delayed for 22 hours.

I have a screenshot of the text that Ryanair sent me themselves at the time. It says that the flight will be delayed for 22 hours

They are just such scammers!

They changed the flight delay time on the "make a claim" section, so we can't send a claim form in.

What they’ll have done is totally reschedule the flight to the following day, so in their system it’ll seem like it was always supposed to fly that day. Keep at them!

ExhaustedPigeon37 · 31/10/2025 11:58

Absolutely make an official complaint…

Send an email to [email protected], including your full name, booking reference, flight details, and the complaint description

if you get no satisfactory final response in 8 weeks then Escalate it… https://www.aviationadr.org.uk/how-to-complain-about-a-ryanair-flight/

When I had to complain about unsatisfactory and unsafe garden furniture I used ChatGPT to write the complaint. I uploaded everything and it was brilliant. I’m dyslexic and struggle with complaint letters etc. so found it very useful and it included consumer rights laws etc.

Good luck!

Ryanair Complaints | Flight Cancellation & Delay Compensation | UK

If you have a dispute with Ryanair over a cancelled or delayed flight which is unresolved then you can submit Ryanair complaints with AviationADR

ExhaustedPigeon37 · 31/10/2025 11:59

Also I’d ask for compensation too not just a refund of your expenses! Go to town on them, they can only say no or come back with a lower offer so go higher than what you want!

It's worse!

On their website it says that the flight departed at the expected time, on the original day.

It's such a lie!

use flight finder, you can then search your flight number and date you were due to fly and it should tell you about the flight

Edited

They are notorious for scamming and not paying their way, it's like they know they already have nothing to lose .

Minto111 · 31/10/2025 12:04

I was irritated at the time about the delay. It caused a lot of hassle.

But to know that I can't even submit a claim has really annoyed me. I am entitled to those expenses.

Thanks for that exhaustedpigeon, I will try to contact Aviationadr

Try the Moneysavingexpert Resolver service to make the complaint. Another way in to Ryanair delay complaint people without the problem with the wrong information.

Flameup · 01/11/2025 06:19

What was the flight op?

If it is the one my sister on, then it transpires that the flight delay is recorded as being less than 3 hours because of the reason behind the delay.

anyway let us know the flight and I can explain more!

fantasticoplastico · 01/11/2025 06:43

Checking your local BBC Radio Station or TV has a consumer programme and email them. Tends to get sorted straight away.

ilovelamp82 · 01/11/2025 06:47

Put all this publicly on Twitter, they will likely get back to you before all the other people that have gone through similar situations start chiming in.

ClareBlue · 01/11/2025 07:00

There are some reasons for a flight delay that an airline are not responsible for and do not pay out compensation. If this is the case they will not log it in their system as delayed. It's important you know the reasons before it is escalated. These are known as extraordinary circumstances and include weather, security issues. Air traffic control issues, unforeseen manufacturing maintenance issues, any industrial action, staff sickness in flight, idiot passengers causing diversion, and many more. It's not a question of automatic compo if delayed. They will interprete extrondainary liberally and it might need to be challenged if this what they are doing.

You can't do that. The flight number is consistant until it is either completed or cancelled. If you get a new rescheduled flight day it will a new flight. It is unusual for a delay to be 22 hours. They would cancel and put people on alternative flights with them or another airline or give a refund.

AlphaApple · 01/11/2025 07:11

I got help from the travel doctor columnist at the Times to help me with an easyJet problem. I had all the evidence, screenshots, WeChat transcripts etc. [email protected] good luck

Thing is despite the rules at some airports,.some routes it's really not possible to quickly disperse passengers on other carriers so they can definitely end up a day late, travelling on the original airframe...

As far as flight numbers go the delayed flight then often gets given the original flight number plus a suffix to differentiate it in the various systems (certainly the company ones) to try and avoid confusion...

For instance if the daily AB123 gets an overnight delay then next day there might be a AB123 and also a AB123X operating on the same route.

LlynTegid · 01/11/2025 07:41

I wonder about a bank chargeback? You have not had what you paid for, in a sense.

Make this your last flight with them of course.

MiniCoopers · 01/11/2025 07:47

Use Resolver. It does all the hard work and they pay up through it.

Overdonecabbage · 01/11/2025 14:12

Flight radar is not showing a single ryanir flight delayed by that kind of amount for…. Well I went back loads and never!

There is nothing on social media about it. Zilch.

No reference anywhere to a 22 hour Ryanir delay.

OP are you are a regular flyer?

Salvadoridory · 01/11/2025 14:21

Please dont let them get away with it. Its just reminded me of something that happened with Vodaohone many years ago, before even email was the default. I drove up to their head office, it was in Banbury. I remember asking my mum where Oxon was and her laughing. It was a 6 hour round trip but I strode in and got them to refund my bill which wasnt even very much but they were so vile on the phone I couldn't leave it!

TBH Flightradar has it's limitations and it's possible the point made by @ClareBlue made about flight numbers may apply.

It's possible the OPs original flight was cancelled and then they travelled on the next day on a flight ,perhaps operating under another flight number, I'm not sure how Flightradar would handle that.

Difficult to judge without further details from the OP which of course may be outing..
