I just really can't be bothered.

OP posts:
OverMyDeadBody · 05/06/2008 17:50

I have never understood the whole concept of tinned pasta though, especially served on toast.

OverMyDeadBody · 05/06/2008 17:52

Mmmm, a apoached egg on top of baked beans on toast would be very yummy I bet! Especially with lots of ketchup

pointydog · 05/06/2008 17:54

tinned pasta on toast is a wonderful, quirky British tradition

pointydog · 05/06/2008 17:54

some of the best meals are carb + carb

SheikYerbouti · 05/06/2008 17:57

Like Mashed potato sandwiches with tommy k.

bergentulip · 05/06/2008 17:58

Best student meal ever =
Pasta, baked beans & cheese...... mmmm.... particularly good for a hangover, or if you get in late......

Not had that in years....

bergentulip · 05/06/2008 17:58

ooooh, chips butties yes, mashed potato in a sandwich..... not sure. I think the texture would bother me.

pointydog · 05/06/2008 17:59

like macaroni cheese and chips

VictorianSqualor · 05/06/2008 17:59

Mash sarnies have to have had the mash mixed slightly with gravy first, then dipped in gravy.

bergentulip · 05/06/2008 18:03

You know what Beautiful, sod the steamed fish I was going to prepare - I want spiderman pasta and chips!!!

Sallyre · 05/06/2008 18:13

Mine are fans of Bob The Builder tinned pasta. HAd it tonight with grilled plaice and spinach soup. So 2/3s of it was healthy!

FrannyandZucchini · 05/06/2008 18:20

told dp "somebody's dh is getting spiderman pasta for dinner tonight"

he said "what has he done to deserve that?"

I have only just realised he meant it in an envious way

nailpolish · 05/06/2008 18:22

only in this country would there be pasta on toast...

OliviaMumsnet · 05/06/2008 18:27

Oh LOL at F&Z's DH. And her with all her fruit'n'veg as well!!

I actually made my DH (then BF) spaghetti hoops on toast as the first thing I ever cooked for him. In my defence I was a student at the time and I ponced it up by giving it an Italian name. Doesn't it sound better as "angelini con pane tostata"?

BoyzntheShire · 05/06/2008 18:28

and you from the land of deep fried mars bars, naily

FrannyandZucchini · 05/06/2008 18:34

oh Olivia, he dreams of pies and pot noodles
I am wasted on him

pointydog · 05/06/2008 18:48

Does he not eat pies? Does he have to dream of them?

FrannyandZucchini · 05/06/2008 20:46

well he doesn't get pies bought and cooked FOR him that is for sure
possibly he eats them during the day, I have not kept close enough tabs on him to be able to say

Habbibu · 05/06/2008 20:51
FrannyandZucchini · 05/06/2008 21:04

LOL have just had flashback to when we were first courting
I did indeed 'catch' him homfing a pie in the high street after having been served perfectly good lentil fare at mine
poor sod

Stephen99 · 06/06/2008 01:47

here's one then...

why, at our local tesco (home of all that is evil and vile by the way, but that's another story), is spiderman pasta for example 32p, fifi and the flowertots pasta 24p, thomas the tank engine pasta 28p, spongebob pants thingy pasta 34p etc etc etc.

this is all the same stuff, made with the same ingredients, in the same factory!

how can it be a different price?!

nippers had alphabety spaghetti for tea tonight, by the way. none left over for me, so am upset.

EffiePerine · 06/06/2008 06:37

DH would love tinned pasta on toast. He has nostalgic flashbacks. When he's on his own he lives on bacon sandwiches, Pot Noodles and ready meals (sigh).

He took DS out the other day and happily reported that he's eaten loads - menu was a Greggs sausage roll and a Ribena ice pole and

EyeballsintheSky · 06/06/2008 07:36

I think you're entirely reasonable to offer such
a delightful meal. However, I dispute your choice of pasta. I had tinned spag bol on toast for tea on Weds. A much loved childhood favourite. Yum!

squeaver · 06/06/2008 07:44

Just caught up with this thread.

Only on Mumsnet would someone think pasta on toast would actually be real pasta on toast! And ask "what sauce would you serve with it?" lololol.

And I cannot let a discussion about the delights of carb+carb eating pass without mentioning that other great Scottish delicacy, the macaroni pie. Yes, it is macaroni cheese, in a pie!

EyeballsintheSky · 06/06/2008 07:49

Squeaver that's my kind of meal! A bakery near work sells lasagne pie. I have to be sellotaped to my desk at lunchtimes otherwise I'd be the size of two houses instead of one!
