Just curious to know how many of you have funeral cover for your children? Feel free to also explain your reasoning for having it/not having it

No, because we have enough savings to pay for a funeral if we needed one.

For your dc or yourself. A lot of companies don’t offer funeral cover until you turn 50.

I do. My employer offers it automatically as part of my benefits package (life insurance for myself, my spouse, and my children).

For DC. So cover to pay for your children's funeral costs should the worse happen

My mother-in-law is obsessed with this insurance. She could have paid for a hundred funerals with what she’s spent on it over the years, for all family members. Better to save that amount in general savings. If you had reason to believe you would be more likely to need it, you probably wouldn’t be covered by it.

ETA I didn't know children's funerals were indeed free, though this covers the cost of the burial/cremation and casket only.

I believe so but it's probably a standard no frills offering so I'm guessing there would still be costs incurred to the caregiver

Funerals are free for children in England. This is for a standard funeral, and there are also charitable grants available for extras.

I find this a rather insensitive question. Parents don't want to think about their children dying, and fortunately, it is unlikely in this country.

No I completely understand and empathise but I'm asking for research purposes. It's a yes or no survey, people can elaborate or ignore as they wish. Apologies to anybody offended by my question as I don't mean to cause any harm but I cannot get answers without asking questions and sometimes yes they can be difficult questions to ask.

No, because I never planned for my child to die before me and when they did the funeral costs were negligible in the grand scheme of things

Children’s funerals are not free. I arrange them. Some of the fees are waived but many still stand.

that said, thankfully it’s rare to have to bury your child in the uk and if the worst happens communities rally, it’s not something I would insure against. Due to my job I’ve been involved in children’s funerals but under 16’s (which is the limit for fee waiver) was only one, the remaining ones were 16-21 (and at university) so sad

No. We never had this kind of cover for dd as a child, and we don't have it for her now as a young adult. We would use savings in that scenario if the worst happened.

Frankly, I think money would be the least of my concerns at that point, and I find the question itself quite crass.

FYI I am a parent and I absolutely don't want to think about that prospect, we can agree there. I am conducting some research as part of a wider debate regarding parent's needing financial assistance to bury their child, general consensus being that parents should be taking out policies for their children as standard practice and not needing to rely on others to support. I don't agree with that as in my opinion I didn't think many people planned for the worst to happen to their child so I can absolutely see how it can be an unexpected cost that you cannot afford therefore need to seek assistance.

I struggle to believe that you have any relevant ethics committee approval for conducting research in this manner, so I'm guessing you're doing some clumsy market research for a business idea rather than proper research as such.
