Are anyone else’s children suffering nasal flu vaccine side effects?

Every year mine seem to have some kind of side effect. This year is diarrhoea. Any else’s household?
Mine had their vaccines 5/6 days ago.

No, never

nasalfluvaccine · 20/10/2025 14:21

Interesting!

Bsmirched · 20/10/2025 14:43

No, never had anything.

DingDongJingle · 20/10/2025 14:44

All mine have always reacted to theirs. It’s a live vaccine so a reaction isn’t unusual. Mine usually get a high temp for a day or so, with a couple of other symptoms on top.

nasalfluvaccine · 20/10/2025 14:47

Ive come down with something too, not sure if its a coincidence though

thecatfromneptune · 20/10/2025 14:49

More likely just to coincide with a bug going around? We’ve had three already since school started. It’s a live vaccine, but DD has never had any reaction to it and I’ve never heard of any kids she knows having one either

WarriorN · 20/10/2025 14:49

It’s hard to tell as this time of year is a veritable germ fest. The tummy bug that’s been going around seems to last a week

Ireolu · 20/10/2025 14:54

Fever the first yr. Nothing since.

SweetBaklava · 20/10/2025 14:54

Mine have either had no reaction at all or minor sniffles, they’ve been getting it since they were little - both in teens now and thankfully never had the proper full-on flu!

APatternGrammar · 20/10/2025 14:57

No, never. My son almost died from influenza A aged 5 so I’d accept a very high level of side-effects let alone a bit of diarrhoea, though.

It’s totally fine, I was just wanting to know if it’s a common thing or not.

it could be a bug. But it’s every year so seems unlikely to be a coincidence

Nope, but all of Y3 got taken out with a vomiting bug last week. And by all, I mean all but 2 of them, they were dropping like flies that’s how fast it moved through the class in a matter of hours. They haven’t had their flu spray yet. It’s just going around.

Dd had hers and now has a cold and cough. It’s not from the spray though, because Dh who is always sick had it first.

I’m immunocompromised due to cancer treatment, and I got neither the cough/cold nor the vomiting bug, so go figure. I also didn’t get COVID when dd had it a few weeks back. 🤷🏻‍♀️ There is just a lot of sickness right now, but I don’t think it’s from the flu spray.

Unfortunately among the genuine posters there are many people posting on here to make vaccines look untrustworthy who do not appear to be genuine and it’s a huge public health risk for everyone but particularly the old and the very young.

Whoa whoa whoa that’s not me at all! My children get every single vaccine they’re supposed to have.

If they had their vaccinations 5/6 days ago I'd say it's more likely a bug. Especially if you've come down with it too.

Mine had a bit of a fever the night of the vaccination last year, but previously nothing and it might have been a coincidence - the autumn term is a bug-fest, after all.

That’s why I said “among the genuine posters”.

I was being emphatically clear

Illness started 2 days after their vaccines respectively

Mine get all their vaccinations. They continue to get their flu vaccinations every year, despite having side effects every year, because the side effects aren’t as bad as flu would be. I don’t think it’s helpful to pretend that there are never any side effects from the nasal flu vaccine, they are well documented due to it being a live vaccine. Just because my kids have always reacted and I’ve answered the question honestly, it doesn’t mean I’m an anti vaxxer.

It’s not the people who answer the questions, it’s the people who start the threads, and there are of course plenty of genuine threads too, like this one of course.
It’s good to be aware of the misinformation techniques being used against our country, I think. It’s our children and elderly relatives at risk, after all.

SquigglePigs · 20/10/2025 15:31

DD (6) was a little tired and snuffly for a day or so but otherwise no noticeable side effects.

VikaOlson · 20/10/2025 15:36

Mine never have over 10+ years of getting it.

Vetiver · 20/10/2025 16:18

My youngest gets ill after it every year (varying degrees of cold/flu symptoms) the last couple of years she was so poorly afterwards that she’s not getting one this year.

MrsCookieCat · 20/10/2025 16:22

I think diarrhoea would be a very unusual side effect OP. Much more likely it’s a bug sorry
