To think my boyfriend should be more understanding that I’m ill?

Juliee86 · 19/10/2025 16:21

I’ve had awful vomiting and diarrhoea since yesterday, I’ve not felt this unwell for a long time. I’ve been at my boyfriend’s flat since Friday, and said to him when I started feeling unwell that I was happy to go back to mine so he didn’t catch anything. He was adamant he was happy for me to stay.

This morning led in bed, I misjudged and there was a small mess on the sheet. He went mental and called me a dirty bitch and said I’d need to clean it straight away.

I was really taken aback and upset, he apologised not long after but I said I wasn’t comfortable staying any longer so went home.

If your partner is ill then you shouldn’t react like this surely?

This sounds epically gross

how long had you been with him?

2 nights running!!!

edit… ah he was your husband! Bit different to a boyfriend you don’t live with

Edited

Also totally understandable when he’s just had a stoma fitted. No matter how long you’ve been in a relationship, if you can’t be sympathetic when someone’s just had a stoma fitted maybe you should just stay single. Anybody can end up with a medical problem.

Greygirl2019 · 19/10/2025 20:41

I was unwell and passed out and had an accident in front of my boyfriend… I was mortified, but he looked after me, helped me get sorted and never mentioned it again! I’m sure he found it pretty gross but he never let on because he’s a nice, empathetic person. You deserve better.

Absolutely. He's not long ago had a total proctectomy, asked me if I'd like to inspect his bum wound. Tbf, he did ask me after a week of dating to have a look at his sore bum (hemorrhoid).

Lots of bum chat in this house.

Grew up with a mum with colitis and then a dh with the same. Accidents happen.

Ashy101 · 19/10/2025 20:46

I shat on the floor with food poisoning, I watched him scrub the floor with no hesitation and that’s when I thought he was a keeper

MellowPinkDeer · 19/10/2025 21:25

I would have gone immediately home when I started to feel ill, I wouldn’t have wanted company or an audience.

Missj25 · 19/10/2025 22:03

Jk987 · 19/10/2025 19:07

How long have you been together? I would have gone home straight away to avoid him hearing me in the toilet and the lingering smell afterwards. I know it’s natural but it’s so gross, especially if the relationship is quite new. Leaving a poo stain on the sheet is one step too far…

Look at you & your ridiculous statement, it was an accident with the sheet , saying it was going one step too far 🙄, the only step that was taken too far , infact completely unacceptably far, is when Dick head boyfriend called OP a “ dirty bitch “ !!!!!

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 19/10/2025 22:05

My ex did this in bed and I was really kind to him . You deserve the same kindness. This will only get worse. Imagine this man being the one supporting you through childbirth and your body being born apart and bleeding. Please leave him.

Viviennemary · 19/10/2025 22:06

He sounds vile. End this relationship.

And your point is ????
That’s not what this discussion is about ..
It’s not “ what would you do if you fell ill at your bfs flat “
Maybe go back up & read OPS post before you decide to contribute your opinion…

If a boyfriend of a fortnight asked to recover at mine post stoma fitted? I would be 🤔

My point is ( and I did read it, thanks) the whole thing could have been prevented by the OP leaving like she wanted to initially rather than him changing her mind and then responding like he did!

He was adamant he was happy for me to stay.

That wasn’t an invite to stay
That was a response to the OP clearly asking to stay

Yes , but the discussion is how awfully he responded ..
I mean what you’re saying is eg , A lady comes home after a few drinks & spills a drink on her husband’s laptop & he hits her ..
Well if she didn’t have those drinks in the first place chances are she wouldn’t have spilt anything on his laptop..
Do you see my point , it’s irrelevant.. Obviously he should never hit her ….
You sound like you’re saying , well if you had just gone home in the first place it wouldn’t have happened…

I think it was fair to ask you to clean it up to be honest, but not OK to have a go at you.
My DH wouldn't clean up the bed if I did the same but he would be kind and go to the shop for lucozade etc..

ComfortFoodCafe · 20/10/2025 10:27

fair of him to ask you to clean it up, i wouldnt clean anyone elses poo up unless my childrens!
that said it sounds like he reacted out of shock, rather than to be cruel.

Catpiece · 20/10/2025 10:29

A Prince for sure. When the chips were down he’s shown you who he is x

chocolateychurros · 20/10/2025 10:56

I agree he doesn’t sound very nice. It’s probably something you ate.

BauhausOfEliott · 20/10/2025 11:03

You were obviously ill, and these things happen. He's being a complete twat about this and it would be a massive, massive red flag for me.

Are you actually serious here ???
Firstly where was it said he should do the clean up ??
Secondly, & MOST IMPORTANTLY !!!!!
He called his girlfriend who was sick a “ dirty bitch “
He acted out of shock 🙄..
He acted like the person he is , A fucking knob head !!!!!

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 20/10/2025 12:04

Someone shitting the bed would really gross me out.

However I'm logical enough to know that it isn't their fault and pointing that out to them isn't going to achieve anything. So I'd just be sympathetic.

No matter what happened, even if it was self influcted, swearing at someone who isn't well is just plain nasty

XWKD · 20/10/2025 12:13

I hope he catches it and shits himself in public, but far from home and has to walk past lots of people. This is the one time I think gangs of teenagers hanging around a street corner could come in handy.

RoseAlone · 20/10/2025 12:29

You should have left no matter what he said. It was your decision to stay and risk infecting him which was downright selfish.
