To get a paw print tattoo?

I want a tattoo of my dog’s paw print. DH thinks it’s estatey but I don’t agree, do you?

Anyobe else have one and where on the body did you get it? I initially thought over the heart but my boobs are too saggy and it will distort 😂

Ablondiebutagoody · 16/10/2025 23:14

Yep, estatey

I agree they shouldn’t dictate but surely it’s not unreasonable to hold and express an opinion?

Opinions are fine so long as they're constructive - e.g. "have you thought about X colour rather than y as X colour really suits you" or in the OPs case "have you thought about having something that represents DDog's personality, like a tattoo of their favourite tree".

would it even look like a paw print if you didn’t know it was a paw? Wouldn’t it look like something dodgy?

When would a paw not look like a paw?!

QuickPeachPoet · 16/10/2025 23:18

How big is doggo? Tiny chihuahua paws or massive ones like my lab?
I am not a tattoo fan but if you're going to get one, let it be in tribute to your dog!

ColinOfficeTrolley · 16/10/2025 23:19

'estatey'

You absolute fucking snob.

There's a difference between 'vulgar' and 'estatey'

You can come from an estate and still have a bit of decorum.

Anyone looking down on 'estatey' people, but thinking of getting a tattoo of paw prints, regardless of how much money they have, have absolutely no class.

AmyDuPlantier · 16/10/2025 23:20

Actually laughing my ass off at people suggesting a husband should get a say on other people’s tattoos 😂

Belladog1 · 16/10/2025 23:26

I have this on my inner wrist and I adore it

Yes, I know what you mean and I agree, it will. Should you go for it? Absolutely, if you want to. Your body, your choice.

kippersmum · 16/10/2025 23:35

My DC is training to be a vet nurse and has a tattoo paw print from our sadly no longer with us family dog on their calf. Not one single eyebrow has been raised. The people that do catch sight of it under scrubs love the idea. I have no idea where the estate bit comes in....

dontblameme · 16/10/2025 23:38

Small paw print across my foot in honour of a dear lost friend. Not estate-y and I don't care what anyone thinks. No regrets.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/10/2025 23:53

I have one. I don’t care if it’s “estate-y”! It’s on my inner arm so easily covered up. I work in a professional job (lecturer) and no-one has ever batted an eyelid if I have a short sleeved top on. I had it done last year when we had to have our lovely cat pts quite unexpectedly aged ten - I’m so glad I asked the vet nurse to take her paw prints, and I love that she’s always with me. I always called her “my sweetest little heart” and the heart underneath is the heart I would write on eg a birthday card.

I actually have another tattoo in the same place on my other arm - lyrics from a song in an old school typewriter font. With both tattoos I researched the artist and thought carefully before committing to them. No regrets. Estate-y as fuck round here. People on MN have very strong negative feelings about tattoos, but in my real life most people I know have at least one.

MN is killing me tonight, I always have an accent nail and have a paw print tattoo (small outer ankle if that matters)
Fuck it, embracing my 50's.

XenoBitch · 17/10/2025 00:02

Your body, your choice.
I know it is something a lot of people do as a memorial thing of their pet that has passed. Someone I know recently lost her dog, and had some of the dog's ashes incorporated into the tattoo ink.

PurpleChrayn · 17/10/2025 00:02

Tacky.

louderthan · 17/10/2025 00:15

I got a tattoo of my actual cat after she was PTS. I sent a pic of her to my tattoo artist who captured her perfectly. She’s always with me and I love it. So many people comment on her.

AutumnCosy2025 · 17/10/2025 00:16

the only tattoo I've ever wanted is the little paw prints 🐾 that were all the thing years ago, going from your hip bone into your pants line. Tiny little paws.

SO SO SO.gkad j never got them.

st times they'd have looked like St Bernard paws & now some distorted, wrinkly, non descriptive 'solidge'

If you get it, think very carefully where & how you'll feel when you're skin ages.

Franjipanl8r · 16/10/2025 23:13

So bad, so so bad. I wouldn’t be able to contain my disgust if someone told me they had a paw print tattoo, I couldn’t even pretend to like it.

Out of interest, how would your uncontained disgust express itself?

And that's even at hearing about it -God, imagine if you saw one!

tragichero · 17/10/2025 00:24

Seems like a sweet and fairly benign choice to me, OP. And I don't know what you mean by "estatey"? If living on any kind of estate is bad, a large percentage of the population of the UK are fucked. From the richest to the poorest. There are all kinds of uses of the word estate. Never heard it with the y as an adjective, mind.....

FrangipaniBlue · 17/10/2025 00:32

I had my dogs paw print done on my left rib cage when I lost her 7 years ago.

I lost my boy a month back and I’m booked in to have his paw print added beside it in a few weeks.

wherewillwegoto · 17/10/2025 00:51

MN snobs 😂

ELO10538 · 17/10/2025 08:45

I think you need to google some of the alternative meanings of a paw print tattoo.
Then abandon the idea.

I want a car paw at some point, its my body and I like my tattoos.

A car paw? Is that like a tyre? 😉

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 17/10/2025 08:55

Pets may be a small part of our lives, but we are a huge part of their lives. You are their entire life and world. Absolutely do it if you want to.

DarkRootsBlue · 17/10/2025 09:08

Stylised prints can look cute (but I guess lack the meaning of a copy of an actual print). Copies of actual prints can look a bit of a splotchy mess. Yes I think of them as ‘estatey’, so if bothers you they have that perception then rethink.

LOL. What a ridiculous bit of hyperbole.

You won't get a rational reaction on here about tattoos: there are people who loathe them and people who love them and not much in the middle.

The question is whether you care about what other people think? My impression generally is that if you care about other people's opinions, getting a tattoo is a bit high risk because a substantial subset of people think they are naff/chavvy/lower class or "estatey" (which is a new one on me).

If on the other hand you don't give a monkeys what people think they go for it, it's your body and no one else's business. But be ready for people to be pearl-clutchy about it.
