Was in homesense today and the lady in front brought a set of 3 matching boxes with handles. homesense had placed all the boxes inside of each other with price tag on the outside of box. When lady went to counter she was told each box was sold individually and price was on the bottom of the box so couldn’t be seen when looking in the box. The woman stated it wasn’t clear at all that they were sold separately. The sales assistant said very sharply that they always do this to save on space with the shelves that no one else has ever found this confusing and they understand that the boxes are all sold separately. I would have found this confusing too and agreed with the woman AIBU and its common in shops or is homesense.

Very normal OP.

I recently went to buy about 5 large plastic tubs to store some clothes in. They were in a large stack of about 15 in the shop, with a sign next to them saying something like £5. I didn't assume the whole stack was £5.

If the lady buying the boxes wasn't happy with that price, she needed to say as much. "Oh, my mistake. That's more than I wanted to pay. Thanks anyway." And walked out.

Tkmaxx/homesense doesn't tend to have prices on the shelf though, it is just the label on the item. These particular boxes definitely look like and are presented like a set.
