Was in homesense today and the lady in front brought a set of 3 matching boxes with handles. homesense had placed all the boxes inside of each other with price tag on the outside of box. When lady went to counter she was told each box was sold individually and price was on the bottom of the box so couldn’t be seen when looking in the box. The woman stated it wasn’t clear at all that they were sold separately. The sales assistant said very sharply that they always do this to save on space with the shelves that no one else has ever found this confusing and they understand that the boxes are all sold separately. I would have found this confusing too and agreed with the woman AIBU and its common in shops or is homesense.

Have you tried writing to your local MP?

MidlandsGal1 · 16/10/2025 21:10

Have you ever been to a shop before?

Unless it says “3 pack” or they are packaged together, normally with a sticky label, they are sold individually.

Very common knowledge, I would question the common sense of anyone who thought otherwise.

dementedpixie · 16/10/2025 21:13

I agree that if they were sold as a set there would be packaging to join them together and would say 3pack/2 pack, etc

It's common to have boxes/tubs sold singly but nested inside each other. If there were lids for them they'd be in a separate pile

Arlanymor · 16/10/2025 21:39

Unless they are all connected to one another I would assume they would be sold separately.

But I wouldn’t be losing sleep over it either way.

NewHat · 16/10/2025 21:42

YABU. Shops have to put things on top of other things. It’s very normal.

DiscoBeat · 16/10/2025 21:52

I would think they were a set too

homesense · 16/10/2025 22:35

This is what they looked like all locked and nested inside each other

That says 'set of 3' though

Tryingatleast · 16/10/2025 23:50

I probably would have thought the same

WaryHiker · 17/10/2025 00:05

She made a reasonable assumption. They gave her a reasonable explanation.

Unless it erupted into a full-scale fist fight, with stock being hurled all over the shop floor - in which case you are being unreasonable not to include a video - I'm not sure why the AIBU.

TY78910 · 17/10/2025 00:06

I mean, there’s one thing not realising, but arguing back when corrected… to the point another shopper has to agree with you… 🙄

PurpleChrayn · 17/10/2025 00:07

Log it with the police.

StayClass · 17/10/2025 00:13

That photo looks like a set especially as they were boxed inside each other. I don't think there was any need of sharpness from the assistant.

That photo is a set. It says so.

steff13 · 17/10/2025 00:20

The picture says it's a set of three. The woman should probably go back tomorrow and show that to the clerk.

RawBloomers · 17/10/2025 01:01

I might have thought the same, but once explained would just have rolled my eyes and told them to set it aside. Homesense isn’t a luxury brand so things like saving shelf space at the expense of clear display are to be expected to some extent. It’s partly how they keep prices down.

But they aren’t from TKMaxx. You can’t say that a different shop sells three as a set. Marks and Spencer’s sell individual knickers but you can’t have seven pairs for the price of one because Asda sell knickers in packs of seven.

Tummytroubles22 · 17/10/2025 08:34

Have you ever bought a mop bucket? Or a laundry basket?

hididdlyho · 17/10/2025 09:04

I'd expect there was some kind of shelf sticker explaining the price was each rather than for a set of 3.

Sounds like a bit of a non event really, some customers regularly get confused by things which you would imagine are pretty obvious. Many use the good old, 'but it had no price label on it, so that means I can have it for free, right'? Ideally, shop assistants would always be really polite to everyone all the time, but we're not robots. When you're serving many people each day, occasionally you word things clumsily, or your tone may come across more harshly than you intended.

I have no idea what any of those places are or what store that picture is for. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I thought, wrongly, apparently, that the original poster would have shared a listing from the store that she was talking about not a completely different store. Because why would you do that?

Halloweeeeeeeeen · 17/10/2025 09:16

This was years ago but I bought two of these ‘sets’ of three nested boxes, they charged me the price on the outer box. It wasn’t until I got them home and separated them that I realised each box had a price sticker on.

They are packaged together, the smaller boxes are nested inside the larger one with a price tag on the outside. So you would have to remove the inner boxes to see they had their own price labels.

The ones in the picture aren’t from Homesense, so the clerk will simply think the OP the woman needs to get a grip.
