To buy a qashqui?

Posting for traffic, and really hoping that I might be able to get some opinions. My last car, and Nissan Micra, has died, and I’ve made the decision not to replace her with another Micra. I am hoping to go slightly bigger, and have been looking at the qashqui. I wondered if anybody had any opinions about it, particularly in terms of space, reliability, and economy!

And also whether you have a diesel or a petrol.

I’d love some opinions, also does anybody have dogs and have a quashqui and therefore have a dog guard, I’ve done quite a lot of research, and I really fancy one, and tend to like Nissans as a whole.

I just find the whole process of car searching really overwhelming, and it feels like the website‘s always tell you all the good bits!

Thanks ☺️

We did some long journeys, think ferry, hundreds of miles, so yes the diesel was efficient, depends on age of car of cours. Under 10k mileage probs not difference

The number of people spelling Qashqai wrong is quite annoying.

Nissan ‘borrowed’ the word “Qashqai", it refers to a Turkic-speaking nomadic people in Iran, who are known for their migration through the Zagros mountains.

Whichhousetochoose · 13/10/2025 11:53

I had a Qashqai which I absolutely LOVED but I had get rid of it unfortunately. I was gutted as I had wanted one for so long. I had a couple of issues. The first one - i was driving on the motorway when the car died. The thermostat housing had cracked, with no warning signs whatsoever. I remember looking it up online afterwards and apparently its a common fault on models around i think 2019-21 and for lots of people completely destroys the engine! I was lucky, my engine was ok and the thermostat housing was replaced with a stronger one (i think the original one is plastic, they now make a different, stronger version)

The one that made me get rid of it was an issue with it leaking coolant. I was driving along one day when suddenly the whole thing died, turned out the coolant was empty. Feeling like an idiot, i topped it up but a few weeks later it happened multiple times. It was costing me a fortune in coolant. I took it to 3 different garages but not one could find out what was causing the leak or how, only that it was leaking into the engine and would eventually cause head gasket failure. They would have to take half the car apart just to diagnose that, which still may not have solved the problem. Safe to say, i was done with it by that point and now have an EV.

I feel like i have been completely negative there, but i wanted to be honest about my experience! Im still gutted though as i loved that car, and saved really hard for it! But the two issues I experienced meant I didnt trust it anymore.

Totally get the irritation of the spelling, sadly spelling is my true downfall, I’ll have to get the spelling in my head if I do decide to get one! Thanks for all this advice!

I have a 2016 Petrol Qashqai.

As a car I like it, it's comfortable, spacious and not too big but it has already had one replacement engine under warranty as there were a batch made with faulty parts.

It has been fine since until yesterday when it died on the motorway and had to be recovered home. We don't yet know what the fault is but a bit of googling is not reassuring. They seem to be prone to vague faults that are difficult to pin down and thus hard to eliminate.

Like a previous poster I now no longer trust it.

Doesbt that deped on the age of it? MY DD used to have one but I don't think it had extra battery,

Depends on the type of car you had and age. As I said mine is semi hybrid so it has the extra battery and to be fair, I didn't know it was there until a warning light came on and I had a diagnostic test done. Its very well concealed so you wouldn't know it's there.

RoverReturn · 15/10/2025 08:39

I had 2013 diesel qashqai and it being diesel caused problems so I would advise against it on that basis.

I have one it’s 10 years old but I love it. It’s a top spec model as well so has lots of fancy gadgets (more than my parents much newer car has). Mine is a diesel and I’ve just had to spend a few hundred getting it fixed because the DFP was blocked. The mechanic explained this is because I don’t do a lot of motorway driving.

Everanewbie · 15/10/2025 10:04

I had the 2022 n-connecta (post facelift). Tons of gadgets and safety features. Gearbox wasn't the smoothest but ok. Plenty of room, was a lot of car for the price. I had a mild hybrid petrol, it wasn't the most efficient to be honest but not horrendous.

I'd go for acenta premium spec as a minimum.

2016 diesel here owned 6 years is absolutely fantastic average mpg around 40 for localish trips, we did a long trip down to Devon from midlands and got 99mpg!

The diesel particulate filter warning light was permanently on. Couldn't get it sorted. So it always appeared there was a warning .

This is what happened with mine I ended up getting it permanently deleted from the system. My dpf was badly blocked though and I was long overdue a service which made matters worse, after the service I felt a difference but the light wouldn’t go out so had it removed as it’s an MOT failure.

Copperoliverbear · 15/10/2025 23:12

I have one always had VW before, I have an e power, I love it so much more spec for your money, really lovely to drive.

Edited

DPF removal is also an MOT failure.

Just got my Qashqai yesterday - petrol automatic
I love it so far - it’s much nippier than I thought!
I did like Jukes but then read they were voted Which Car? Number 1 for unreliability last year!

SUVs are not as practical as people seem to think they are. If you want a bigger car then get a saloon or an estate.

Presumably it depends on what you want an SUV for?

I bought my first SUV when I had my baby as it was a so much easier getting the baby car seat in and out of a car that’s a bit roomier and higher up.

Now, I like the fact that I can get in and out of it much easier than a car that’s nearer the ground. 😊

DPF removal is also an MOT failure.

The garage would somehow fudge it through the MOT.
I wasn't happy driving around with the light always on so managed to part exchange it for my current car.
