i came back from picking up dd and ds and it was there.it is a fake bambo frame with a water colour picture of a dog and cat looking at a tortoise, very 80's.would it be unreasonable to divorce him over a picture?

Rosa - my mum has a strange affection for Thomas Kinkade's pictures.

Very twee

Sidge · 04/06/2008 21:45

Oh link didn't work properly - she collects the "Cottage" pictures.

RosaLuxembourg · 04/06/2008 21:45

That's the guy! Thank you Sidge!

Sidge · 04/06/2008 21:58

LOL Rosa must be a mum thing!! When I get to my mum's age I shall start collecting pictures of kittens and snow covered cottages...

findtheriver · 04/06/2008 22:12

Look, it could have been worse. At least it wasn't a plate with a kitten on it...

RosaLuxembourg · 04/06/2008 22:17

No, no, findtheriver. A plate, you see, could so easily accidentally fall and be smashed into teeny tiny pieces.

cheesesarnie · 04/06/2008 22:18

exactly even if i smashed glass-he could replace it.

Sidge - well, I have learnt something then. The poster was still going strong when I was at school too, so early 90's. Athena clearly has a lot to answer for(!) Thanks for the link- interesting.

2point4kids · 05/06/2008 08:11

We had the dogs playing snooker at home and I had the man with the baby when I was at school too. I remember getting a framed pic of that photo for my 14th birthday pmsl

Cheesesarnie - could you move it to another room while he is out and put something else in its place and when he comments say 'oh I specifically bouht this picture for that spot, i must have forgotten to shw you. I was just about to put it up when you put the other one up. You one looks so much better in the other room as well'

cheesesarnie · 05/06/2008 13:11

thats great idea 2point4kids

Count yourself lucky.

We saw a large portrait of Ho Chi Minh when we were in Hanoi for our wedding anniversary. It is back-lit with disks of red and white stripes that spin to give Uncle Ho a halo. Husband moped around all day until I said you're still thinking about that ghastly picture, aren't you? OK, then, if you'll stop being such a sad sack you can go back and buy it. He cheered up instantly and it has decorated our kitchen ever since. Actually it's such a spectacular piece of kitsch it's quite grown on me.

pillowcase · 06/06/2008 01:15

oh this has made me laugh, my family have had many of these over the years. I loved the dogs playing snooker! We at least we had it over our pool table!

cheesesarnie · 06/06/2008 13:47

ninedragons -that sounds ok in kitsch way!

cheesesarnie · 06/06/2008 14:07

that man, woman swan would be great as a if you take yours down i'll take mine down pic!

blousy · 06/06/2008 14:11

I used to play with a girl called Cheryl (!) and her parents had that swan one, must have been about '78. I thought it was hideous even then.

MollyCherry · 08/06/2008 02:23

We've got a barn own staring out of it's barn that MIL bought DH the year before we got together (at his request) for birthday pressie. Can't get rid of it so have hung it on wall behind sofa so don't have to look at it and have made sure all our friends no it's his taste not mine!

ALMummy · 08/06/2008 15:40

I had a boyfriend who after visiting our house and seeing my parents choice of artwork (quite acceptable actually) asked my Mum if she knew where he could get a picture of dogs playing pool for HIS mum for christmas. She just gazed at him in horror and I never brought him home again.

They don t just play pool you know.... here.

Actually knew someone who had Man, Woman and Swan in their house. Find it rather creepy tbh.

PortBlacksandResident · 08/06/2008 16:48

Did anyone have those mirrors with beer logos on? (and didn't live in a pub).

PortBlacksandResident · 08/06/2008 16:52

Molly - is your barn owl half shiny in certain lights ?

RustyBear · 08/06/2008 17:09

Man woman & swan was the student poster of choice when I was at uni in the 70's.

Not me or DH though I had a cute lion cub & DH had Olivia Newton-John looking spectacularly gormless.
