My ex husband was supposed to be taking my children on holiday at half term. He just told them he’s already gone by himself 😳😆 so they’ve been prepared for a beach holiday which they won’t now have.

I would like to take them somewhere but it’s going to smash my budget.

I started searching for heat and fun any dates between 17-26 Oct (poss later as well), 4-7 nights, but I’m bewildered and not sure it can be done for the money I’m prepared to spend.

cyprus? Turkey? Morocco? Egypt?

Need it to come in under £2000. Would obv love it to be with breakfast or any food inclusive.

ideas and links if anyone believes it’s possible?!!

It’s only 129 each for 4 nights! Could do a couple of days in the theme park too!!

Melx42 · 11/10/2025 20:01

I have just looked at tui last minute and they have all inclusive with free chill places coming in at less then £1500 for a week

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 11/10/2025 20:08

I think a lot of the much maligned Spanish Costas and the Canary Islands are still warm at this time of the year.

Spain is much better value than the Canaries.

So look at last minute web sites and departing soon hols with Jet2, TUI etc.

But be careful these companies are well aware that a lot more families with children now go away in October. Rather than the very expensive summer months

If you are lucky enough to live near an independent travel agent. They may be able to help you find something.

As for your feckless ex husband. No wonder he is your ex. Reminds me of he character in Withnail and that went on holiday by mistake.

Hope you get a great hol with the kids and get Mr Feckless to pay for it.

Bon Voyage

Interail is so fun. Obviously you won't get the heat but will get adventure. You could go to Rome. Berlin. Barcelona. Bologna. Milan etc. And back.

cookiemon666 · 11/10/2025 20:50

I took my teenagers to Lanzarote in October. It was about 27° the whole time. We went all inclusive for under £2k

Malta is supposed to be good.

No beaches, it’s more huge rocks as coastline

@loveawineloveacrisp good tips thanks. They’ve been to Egypt as my brother lives there and lots of my friends from school. Love it but want to try somewhere new if we’re spending.

it’s looking like Canaries and our travel agent in town reckons they can beat online but I had 5 kids with me when I went in so they’re emailing me details to look at later.

thanks everyone.

If you end up in tenerife then Siam Park waterpark is a must do for kids that age.

walkingmycatnameddog · 11/10/2025 22:03

great beach

BlackSheepThisYear · 11/10/2025 22:09

Get yourself to the south of Tenerife - the weather will be good, sea will be warm enough to swim in. Grab some snorkels from a cheap beach shop and see what you can find. Avoid the natural sea pools though (have a Google) as they can be so dangerous. The main one is fenced off now with signs so you should be fine. Siam park is a bit expensive but your kids are the right age for it so will love it. Boat trips to see whales are cheap - can get 3 hours with a stop off for a swim for about £25 each. With a hotel with a pool and entertainment, you’ll all have a great time. Good luck!

It’s not it’s horrible

I highly recommend Hotel Augustus in Cambrils on the Costa Dorada. We’ve been twice in the October half term and both times had great weather (although obviously I can’t guarantee that!). It is right on the beach, food is varied and lots of it, rooms are clean and comfy. Most other hotels around are closed, and a lot of the restaurants too but there are still things to do. If you like theme parks Port Aventura is not far.

SammyTales · 12/10/2025 09:30

Our holidays are the week after yours. I've done Tunisia and Turkey in October before and it's been nice, but not warm enough to use the outdoor pools really. Last year we did Egypt,. Which was hot.and great, but it's too expensive this year. So, we have gone for Marrakesh as its inland and near the desert, but still does all inclusive. I'm obsessively watching the weather forecast, and it's 29 degrees at the moment. Fingers crossed. We bought flights with easyjet and booked the hotel with stayforlong and got all inclusive for family of four for £1500. My go to operators for cheap trips are. Also sunshine holidays and lastminute.com. You usually have to book your own transfers, but hoppa are very good and affordable so we use them. Good luck... And what a selfish git.

Imbusytodaysorry · 12/10/2025 10:10

@mynamechangemyrules where did you decide to book ?

I love researching holidays let me see what I can find!! With a kids place free or a single adult place might be able to do it

Jet2 offer these options

Blahdiblahblahr · 13/10/2025 10:20

No idea on hols but just wanted to say WHAT A TWAT. I am sending horrible vibes in his direction. I hope he gets food poisoning. I hope he gets bitten by sand flies and the bites get infected and he gets cellulitis. I hope he has the worst holiday of his stupid life.

I like this - rather than try and copy the dad's beach holiday could do a grand adventure type trip, more hostelly but exciting. Wouldn't be for everyone but my kids' dad and I do this a bit... he does the beaches I do adventures.

I do adventures with mine (like Interrailing all the way to Bulgaria and back with them this summer).

Their dad, while he seems to regularly go on impressive sounding foreign holidays with the girlfriend du jour, has taken them to Pontins. Once. In February. For a weekend. (Unsurprisingly they hated it- everything was closed and "the sea was brown" 😆).

Still, at least I suppose I get to feel smug 🙄

Spain is always reasonable as are the Canaries.

Spain is not always nice in October. Floods there atm

As an alternative perspective, OP, I would suggest you don’t let your feckless ex’s actions dictate how you spend your£2k.

your kids are old enough to weather a little disappointment. It might be better, instead of trying to step in and fulfill your ex’s promises, that you just commiserate with them a bit. Tell them you’ll help them make the best of the week anyway and get them involved in planning next year’s holiday for the 4 of you.

I’m not saying a last minute holiday right now is a bad idea. (And I’m sure the idea of a week in the sun appeals on its own merits, not just as a way to make your kids less upset). Just pointing out you may get further in the medium to long term if you forge your own path.

I actually agree with this. It doesnt sound like this might be one time thing; he has likely let them down plenty of times and will continue to. you dont need to mask their feelings by trying to step in, and creating debt and stress for yourself isnt going to help with the every day. I'd book in some fun family time and promise them a holiday that you can save up for? Even if Feb is possible? I think its the most miserable of half terms so you can explain the budget challenge with them, show how you'll aim to save up for Feb instead, and then you can look for a sunny break whilst everyones limping to the end of winter?

Basically, you can fix the fact their dad promised them a holiday and now isnt doing it. He's the only one to fix that. You can just keep being a good mum and supporting them with their feelings.

OP, your ex is a prize prick. You, on the other hand, are a brilliant mum. Fuck him. I hope you have the most amazing family holiday without that prick in tow.

Not all over Spain. I’ve been checking weather in Benalmadena for an upcoming holiday and it’s looking pretty nice at the moment. I agree that there are no guarantees though (from experience) and it may well change before we go.

I'm near Marbella at the moment and it's mid 20s and beautiful.
