My ex husband was supposed to be taking my children on holiday at half term. He just told them he’s already gone by himself 😳😆 so they’ve been prepared for a beach holiday which they won’t now have.

I would like to take them somewhere but it’s going to smash my budget.

I started searching for heat and fun any dates between 17-26 Oct (poss later as well), 4-7 nights, but I’m bewildered and not sure it can be done for the money I’m prepared to spend.

cyprus? Turkey? Morocco? Egypt?

Need it to come in under £2000. Would obv love it to be with breakfast or any food inclusive.

ideas and links if anyone believes it’s possible?!!

Have a look on Holiday Pirates. They tend to collate all the super cheap holidays and you can search for them too

All London ones really

What about train as PP suggested or ferry to Spain. Go for cheaper transport and make the journey part of the holiday.

BellissimoGecko · 10/10/2025 21:55

He doesn’t even pay CMS? How on earth, if he is so well paid?

He should be ashamed. He doesn’t deserve your dc.

You, on the other hand, rock!

ERthree · 10/10/2025 21:56

The children are old enough to understand their father has let them down so please don't get yourself into debt over this.

Anonymous23456 · 10/10/2025 22:00

Try holiday hypermarket. Ifound several holiday for under 1k for all of you.

Sassylovesbooks · 10/10/2025 22:02

You're better off going to the Canary Islands at the end of October, to guarantee sun. Somewhere like Egypt might be OK.

Dippythedino · 10/10/2025 22:03

Turkey. I went in Oct half term and it was mid 25 to 28 degrees daily, perfect t short & shorts weather. Much more comfortable than July l/August when it's 40° & too hot to do anything.

Wolfwhistles · 10/10/2025 22:06

Just checking and your half term might be different or you might not be bothered about taking them out of school but your original post said half term and those dates are the week before the majority of half terms

TokenGinger · 10/10/2025 22:09

This is all inclusive, luggage, transfers etc all included. The food is spot on, too. It has a private beach.

thanks this place looks amazing- any tips on where to find a place to stay? Airbnb?

I just quickly checked booking . com before I posted and the apartment came up right on the beach but there also seems plenty on Airbnb. Just check there are plenty of positive reviews.

Before the family moved to Malaysia they were visiting with their boys yearly and spent a fair amount of time there. They offer surfing lessons on the beach too if that’s something your kids will be interested in

QueensCafe · 10/10/2025 22:18

If you look in the jet2 website there are quite a few holidays to the Canaries coming in at just under £2000 for a week during your dates.

I don't think that's a good idea. Obviously, the OP shouldn't put herself in hardship if she can't afford it, but why should her kids 'weather the disappointment' if she can mitigate it? Why should they suffer because her ex is useless? That said, it does make me so angry that CMS is so toothless. These wankers who cook the books should be cracked down on as hard as people who dodge their tax.

Are you really unaware of how important it is for kids to learn that even when things go wrong, the world keeps turning and things work out fine? That not going on holiday isn’t actually “suffering”? That “saving” your kids from every disappointment is bad for them?

Going on holiday is not a bad response to her ex’s actions, and OP has given more information on why it’s a particularly good response for her in her situation.

But your argument here is shoddy and founded in a particular shallow and brittle view of what parenting should be.

PrimalLass · 10/10/2025 22:24

As they have a total cock for a father I'm sure they are aware things go wrong.

fgsaname · 10/10/2025 22:26

Loads on Jet2 holidays

There's loads of sites that do apartments and villas and are cheaper than Airbnb often for exactly the same apartment. Airbnb whack a booking fee on which puts the cost up a lot.

Check out trip.com, agoda, hometogo which do all of the booking.com ones but sometimes cheaper for some reason. They link you through to booking.com but they do have offers when you access that way for some reason.

mynamechangemyrules · 10/10/2025 22:35

@Wolfwhistles we have a 2 week half term as a new thing this year (started earlier in Sept as a trade off) 🎉 hence me getting excited about booking something (I’m a teacher and so undercutting inflated prices isn’t something I can usually do- again why I’m a little over the top about them being let down at this opportunity I could’ve take months ago if he’d not bollocksed it up)

so many great ideas, you’re all really helpful. Me and my notebook getting busy and I’m going to book in the cold hard light of day tomorrow!

Best of luck for having a super holiday OP.

Buttheads · 10/10/2025 22:42

Hi, just checked and looks like love holidays have some good all inclusive deals.for a week its coming in around 1300 for places like Spain,Turkey Greece cheaper if you go with bed and breakfast.Good luck and hope you all have a fab holiday

PassOnThat · 10/10/2025 22:44

OP, definitely take the kids on holiday. Make hay while the sun shines. You're off, the kids are off, you have some money.

My oldest was little during Covid and the lockdowns, and if this time taught us anything it was "seize the day" as you never know what life is going to throw at you

Hithismyname · 10/10/2025 22:59

Canary islands still Warm in October amd not too far.

MarxistMags · 10/10/2025 20:14

Spain is always reasonable as are the Canaries.

Define reasonable. As its half term its costly.
Op do you own search, put in your requirements into website like jet 2 or tui and see what it comes up with.
