Is it too early to decorate for Halloween? Has anyone already got their decor out?

@YankSplaining you have never seen anyone put halloween decorations up on the day?

Never. (I should clarify that I’m American - see username.) And it doesn’t make sense to me, because if you’ve put in the effort, you want to have the time to enjoy it.

Halloween’s a Friday this year. Let’s say you decorate on Thursday evening. Then the next day you take a glance at the decorations as you eat breakfast and leave for work, and you come back in the evening and enjoy them for a few hours while you’re preoccupied with eating dinner and and passing out candy/sweets to trick-or-treaters. Let’s say you really stick it out and don’t go to bed until midnight. You’ve enjoyed the decorations for, what, eight whole hours? And then it’s time to take them down again the next day. What was the point of that?! IMO, if you’ve bothered to decorate at all, it’s nice to have at least a few days to enjoy it. Because Halloween is fun, and decorations are fun, and you’re not going to get another chance until next year.

Mine went up on October the 1st, I love Halloween and love decorating as much as I do for Christmas. I’m glad it’s taken off more here nowadays, I was always so envious of the houses I saw in American Halloween films when I was younger!

Halloween originates in Ireland, and we're reclaiming it, hence the 'early' decorating! The only thing I dont like is the fake web, because so much wildlife gets stuck in it and they struggle to death - insects, small birds and hedgehogs

beaniebabby · 12/10/2025 17:21

@YankSplaining I was in California 2 years ago and some of my friend's neighbours put out decorations the morning of.

Halloween is fun but the majority of people in England who do decorate only put up a few bits, it's not that deep 🤷🏻‍♀️

beaniebabby · 12/10/2025 17:21

I'm Irish and even in Ireland is not uncommon for decorations to go out the day of ime.

Irenesortof · 12/10/2025 17:22

Where I live there are a few halloween things in the shops but nobody has put themed decorations up in their houses and probably won't, except some who have young kids.

Hedgehogs? Oh God, that is awful. Do people realise?

CoastalCalm · 12/10/2025 17:24

I don’t decorate but several nearby houses have had theirs out for a while now

randomchap · 12/10/2025 17:37

Am I allowed to claim the cobwebs I can see in the corner of the room are for Halloween?

Anakan · 12/10/2025 17:42

I'm doing it this weekend and will gradually add more and more. Never understand the too early for Xmas too early for x crowd. It's fine. Your house your life your taste. I like dragging it out, and enjoying the season for as long as possible. As soon as halloween comes down, I'm starting xmas.

I'd like to think many don't realise, but I think some just don't care

onwardsup4 · 12/10/2025 17:47

For me yes, Halloween is a one day thing but if you want to then do!

Offthecorporateratrace · 12/10/2025 18:42

Yup, a week maximum before the actual day.

Okay, but the question was whether I’d ever seen anyone put up Halloween decorations on Halloween, and I haven’t.

beaniebabby · 12/10/2025 20:23

Yes, but because you said

"but I’ve never heard of anyone who puts up holiday decorations for one single day"

Im just telling you that these people do in fact exist...

Hollybobs1 · 12/10/2025 22:05

I put mine up at the end of September 😂

Way too early. It's a one day thing. Up on the 30th if you really must.

DramaQueenlady · 12/10/2025 22:20
