Not religion. I have no time for organised religion and the associated man made rules.

But do you believe in 'something'?

For context, my grandad was a CofE vicar but my parent rebelled against it and we were brought up broadly l in the religion (eg we celebrated main religious festivals like Easter and Christmas) but not as practising Christians and without a particular belief in God.

As an adult, I have friends of different faiths and none and it's something we have discussed from time to time. It's also something I used to discuss with my grandma who had a very strong belief in God but also believed the Bible until she became older when she still had a strong faith but admitted she thought the Bible was largely nonsense!

I suppose I've always felt that there is 'something' but I refer to it as the universe. I don't know, I always feel that there has been 'something' looking out for me.

That doesn't mean bad things have never happened because they have and religion/belief doesn't protect anyone from that. And it doesn't mean my life is anywhere near perfect because it's not. But the universe has always seemed to 'step in' when needed.

I don't know. I'm going through a tough time at the moment but I have a feeling everything will turn out to be OK because it always does.

It's disappointing to see so many non believers on the thread

John 3:36:
"Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them."

This basically means if you do not embrace the Lord Jesus Christ, you will not enter heaven. Please think on before it is too late 🙏

Remember if you have led a good Christian life you will see loved ones again and yes that includes pets. My cat passed away last year and I shall be reunited with him again as well as both my parents who have passed over to the other side. Only sinners and non believers will taste the fires of hell

Revelation 21:8: "But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

Please get to church and repent for we are all sinners including me. I am very ill and the thought of heaven to see loved ones again keeps me going 🙏Remember on the day of judgement, we can only answer to God not mortal man.

RealPerson · 09/10/2025 19:18

About this something from nothing stuff- could consciousness conceivably have always existed. Because it is seemingly "something" and "nothing" at the same time... maybe reality really does depend on our perception. Maybe God is a word to describe the potential depth and source of this shared force

Ok then, so non believers are going into the eternal firey pit - but what about believers in other faith? Muslims? Jews? Hindus? It just so happens that you have chosen the right god and they have chosen the wrong one? Seems a bit unfair - particularly as which brand of god people believe in is mainly determined by where they're born. Or do they avoid hell? Maybe there's a less firey pit that isn't quite heaven for them? If so, what about anyone still worshipping the Norse gods say? Where do you draw the line?

I’m not a sinner but am an atheist - none of us go to heaven or hell. It’s just a threat, a control mechanism to force you to behave a certain way.
What do you think will happen to me on the day of judgement?

Wow. I mean... I obviously know that there are plenty of people who do believe this stuff, but sometimes it's still astonishing when you read it in black and white like that.

There is no heaven (and not the tiniest scrap of evidence of such a thing existing), so why would I worry about not getting into it?

Fortunately for me, my family are all atheists, so we are planning on having THE best party in the fiery depths of hell.

Hang on! All liars are going to hell? Well heaven is going to be very empty then. How many lies can you tell in your life without suffering eternal damnation? And from what age? I mean children lie all the damn - seems a bit harsh to condemn them to eternal firey sulphur pits? And how serious does the lie have to be? Does "of course you don't look fat" count?

So many questions!

A few months ago I was sitting in my lounge working on the laptop and I started noticed I kept getting drops of water on my jeans. I obviously checked for a leak above, but there wasn’t one, nor any water source at all. When I moved around the room the drips followed me, and I ended up really wet. Nowhere else in the room got any drips. I took photos cos I would have thought I’d gone mad otherwise. I’m a Christian and since then I’ve heard the same has happened to other people around the world.. plus flowers, feathers and gold dust. I can’t ever doubt again after that. Random little miracle from God and it changed my life.

That definitely sounds like something an all-knowing, all powerful god would want to do. more likely a Norse type rain god than the Christian one perhaps? Or maybe it means you are a rain god like the trucker in Dirk Gently?

Ok, so the cats of the people in heaven get to go to heaven too. What about the other cats? Do they have to go to hell with their owners? Seems a bit unfair on the cats? Or is heaven full of stray cats that have been separated from their sinner owners? And what about cats that never had owners?

I really want to know what the Bible says about cats!

I had a weird experience once. I had a silver coin, dropped it and as it hit the floor suddenly two coins scattered across the floor in different directions. Then there was just one. I don't think it was god. I believe I saw two dimensions in which the coin went either way, for half a second before reality snapped back into place

Why do you think it happened? My guess is a leak somewhere and the water travelled along a beam in the loft or an electrical cable - common ways water find its way

Why would god want to drip water on you? I'm sure there are better ways to make one's divine presence known than to drop stuff on random people. The miracles in the bible are mostly about healing the sick, feeding the hungry, freeing people from demonic possession etc aren't they? Not causing mysterious leaks.
