I’ve seen this referenced a few times recently.

What do you class it as - I’m assuming 6 figures plus given how many appear to be earning it? Or do you also need a c-suite DH? I’m intrigued!

OP posts:

I think we’ve lost sight of what a normal portion looks like.

CasperGutman · 04/10/2025 23:14

What's "Mumsnet rich" supposed to mean? Rich like typical people on Mumsnet? Or rich even by comparison to the stereotypically affluent Mumsnetters?

FaitesVosJeux · 04/10/2025 23:17

Engaging with this OP should be undertaken with a soupçon of scepticism and a couple of paracetamol 😂

It really depends on your outgoings and disposable income surely. The less bills you have to pay the richer you will feel.

PlutoCat · 04/10/2025 23:25

I thought OP's username was familiar.

MiddleAgedDread · 04/10/2025 23:26

You’ve nailed the classic mumsnet rich cliche 👏

dcsp · 05/10/2025 01:14

I think "rich" describes wealth, not income.

Someone earning £250k (or £2.5M) may not be rich. In the majority of cases they will be, but it's the money/assets they've been able to accrue thanks to their high earnings which is what qualifies them as rich, not the high earnings themselves.

PlutoCat · 04/10/2025 23:26

And if so, can you find that in the store?

coxesorangepippin · 05/10/2025 01:35

Nice five bed detached house somewhere fine south. Well spoken.

Good income, but not extreme.

I'd say the majority of mn is middle class, rather than working or UC.

Like an avocado toast, a bit pretentious.

CasperGutman · 05/10/2025 07:47

OK, everyone's launched straight into discussing numbers, but I'm still none the wiser: are you all taking "Mumsnet rich" to mean "rich like a Mumsnetter" or "rich for a Mumsnetter"? Because the numbers for each will obviously be completely different!

I feel like this totally sums up mumsnet rich?!

As in that is a joint income of £315k?!?! Thus is almost 10 x the average household income in the uk.

But you don’t (seemingly) classify yourself as rich?

lampshadez · 05/10/2025 08:00

Yes agreed.

lampshadez · 05/10/2025 08:02

You see a lot of Mns rich on mortgage threads; "we bring in 20k a month but we are not comfortable with a mortgage of more than £500 a month, didn't want to overstretch.

Araminta1003 · 05/10/2025 08:04

To me it means two professional jobs, sound rich on paper, but mostly paying a lot of tax and living in the South East so not all that much to show it years down the line.
Basically, middle class middle aged British, a house, two good jobs, 2 kids, a car, a few holidays, a concern for nice kitchen and holiday destinations and good schools and unis.
But certainly not living it big on passive income and millions in the bank.

Araminta1003 · 05/10/2025 08:07

MN rich can no longer afford to fully revamp the large kitchen, it has to be a farrow and ball touch up job these days. And holidays in an airbnb across the pond type stuff or in Cornwall. No longer lavish trips to the Maldives and skiing holidays. Those days are gone.

😂

Don't be daft! Of course someone earning £250k a year is rich 🙄

DisplayPurposesOnly · 05/10/2025 08:12

I'd never heard of c-suite until mumsnet😆

ItsAWonderfulLifeforMe · 05/10/2025 08:15

I would say any household income over 150k is mn rich, 200/250 plus is Mn rich plus. And those people often don’t recognise their wealth or think they are. Plenty of people could have x1 earner and x1 SAHM if adjusted location / spending accordingly but MN rich is having a SAHM AND Private school fees

DancingNotDrowning · 05/10/2025 08:18

It’s so confusing because on the one hand posters who earn £100k and live in a three bed new build in Surbiton, financed with a crippling 40 year mortgage are capitalist overlords, but on the other hand those raking in millions a year as the CEO of a MNC are merely working class with a Waitrose habit and certainly not rich
