To think we need to make a sacrifice to the weather Goddesses

This year has been incredible. Beautiful warm dry spring, proper hot summer, and now chilly blue-sky autumn days, with a few days of rain here and there to keep the plants happy. After years of thick grey cloud, drizzle and rain, I can hardly believe it, and for once I’m happy about autumn arriving as I don’t feel cheated out of a summer.

We must appease whichever Goddess has sent us this good fortune.

Who are we sacrificing?

(LIGHT HEARTED - I DO NOT ENGAGE IN OR CONDONE HUMAN SACRIFICE)

Hmmmm
Still on a hosepipe ban in Yorkshire and water levels in rivers and reservoirs still very low here. I like sun but we really really need some rain. After intense rain they're still below 50% full at the end of September .
If you can guarantee the rain will only fall between 1am and 6am I could be on board with this.

What do you mean years of wet grey weather?

2024 was wetter than usual, but 2022 was very dry and hot and 2023 was also very warm.

2021 and 2024 were duller than average with less sunshine than usual, but 2022 and 2023 were very sunny years.

We've had a fair bit of variation. Our water levels at the moment are extremely low thanks to a very dry year so far, and farms, nature etc are struggling.

We've already paid our dues in Wales.... see image from a fortnight ago...

How about Nigel Farage?

It would be a lovely ending to the year if we got rid of him

Do you think we might get a pretty, snowy Christmas and an early Spring next year if we throw in all the radio 2 callers who love him so much?

Stop being pedantic and get with the spirit of the thread. Who are we sacrificing?

The beautiful warm, dry spring and proper hot summer has led to water shortages all over the country. The grass around where I live has only just started to go green again from a horrible, parched dry yellow.

Sorry people are being so boring on your lighthearted thread, OP xx

Lol, savage 😂

I would prefer something poetic like pushing him out into the English channel on a dingy and letting him fend for himself since he thinks people do it for fun.

Still have a hosepipe ban here.
The rain that has been welcomed in some areas seems to have passed us by, we got an occasional light shower in Sept but it did very little.
Thousands of dead young trees & shrubs here, even mature trees have gone into shock and were starting to drop many weeks ago.
Taking Ddogs for a walk through the local wood yesterday it was noticeable that the undergrowth was nothing like as thick & lush as in previous years and the ground was very hard underfoot.
We have to avoid walking across some open areas of parkland as the cracks in the ground are a danger to small dogs running.
A definite increase in wildlife coming into built up areas trying to find water (birdbaths, dog bowls etc) as natural water sources have dried up.

Could see the problem coming when I was having to start watering in March and as the weeks went by could see how it was affecting everything.
Have thoroughly disliked this years weather.☹️

I think you’re on the right track op.

We fecked up our weather in Ireland. When we stopped sacrificing people we created this system called the Leaving Cert where we locked all our 18 year olds in hot sweltering halls for two weeks, while the rest of us got to enjoy the summer (which coincidentally in Ireland is two weeks long). Everyone had to take their turn so it was fair enough.

Then we went soft, brought in the continuous assessment, increased the college entry options , and even, opened the windows a crack in the exam centres, and now the weather is gone to shite.

There used to be a lovely week on September too to reward the mammies for not killing the dc over the holidays but between fancy holiday clubs and the schools being liable to cheat and start back in the middle of August, you can’t depend on that either.

So far, the rest of the world is getting hotter, and we’re just getting wetter.

See I think there is a big difference between technical stats (which will say a year has been ‘hotter than average’ because a milder winter and more cloud results in a higher average overall, rather than because we have had a scorching summer) and lived day to day weather which is appropriate for the season.

I hate to do this but I’ve actually had to research summer branch drop as part of my job, and it’s usually heavy rain following hot dry weather that causes the drop. That said, most of the time it can’t be attributed to one weather pattern specifically and it can be random.

So the Celtic Goddesses demanded young, promising teenagers as the sacrifice? Perhaps Greta Thunberg in that case?

I feel scared - the lack of water if repeated for a few years will be horrific impact on our food supply and hygiene

we can probably get more sunny summers though - think back to Covid when all the flights were grounded -that really lifted the grey away

oh they lied to me, wherever it was i heard it, and i have seen proof of branches lying on the ground, that is annoying.

The local kids that are playing knock a door run at the minute.
They should be pleasing as their souls are young and as pure as you will get from any knock a door hooligan 😂

Tammy295 · 01/10/2025 18:43

I preferred the weather covid year, didn't seem quite so desperately dry but was still really nice. Can we do that year instead?

Perhaps you'd like to volunteer yourself for sacrificing OP? What a wonderfully selfless act that would be!

Lollypop701 · 01/10/2025 18:48

It’s not too far off bonfire night… think we could have a sacrifice in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales??? I think there’s a lot of sacrifices needed to bring it back into line.

Doesn’t have to be literally though … burning effigies only and making the effigy live on benefits only , in the most deprived areas of each nation … with no help on obtaining the benefits they may be entitled to.

Let’s be honest it’s mostly politicians, it would be great to see them dealing with the consequences of their policies… with tv cameras in the mold filled houses following their every move

im getting far too involved with this thread….
