That the Red Roses 'celebration' at Battersea power station just looks a bit crap

Just the above really.
Not that many people, in a non-central part of London, so difficult to get to.
Why don't they get an open top bus through London like the men?

Because I sadly suspect.., there simply wouldn’t be the crowds and it would look a little limp

LlynTegid · 28/09/2025 15:12

I agree with you.

Battersea Power Station may have a tube service (wish it had not as it has wrecked Northern line reliability) but it is not somewhere easy to get to.

Pipsquiggle · 28/09/2025 15:18

Why not Trafalgar Square?

OP posts:
goldtrap · 28/09/2025 15:22

It's where the fan zone is, so they've had the big screens with deckchairs for watching the games, the inflatable goals etc. It's nicely laid out and landscaped and a good destination. Plenty of space and ameneties for people to disperse after. It's not that difficult to get to!

IThinkPink · 28/09/2025 15:25

Oh come on it’s easy enough to get to

and well set up for it!

who would want Trafalgar Square anyway!?

Shudder

when was the last time you went to London op?

JurassicPark4Eva · 28/09/2025 15:30

I've just turned off the TV - I'm not interested in listening to what amounts to crap karaoke.

Last week. Will be going twice next week.

I just think it's a pitiful amount of people vs all the thousands that have been supporting them over the last few weeks. We went to a game at Ashton Gate and it was great.

I would definitely go out to see them on my lunch break if they were on an open top bus

It's pretty lame but honestly so was the tournament. I watched about 6 games and none were remotely competitive. England did great but such a shame they were all so one sided.

No one is interested. Fact

HedwigEliza · 28/09/2025 16:04

Very few people are interested, or care.

8t had the second biggest attendance of any Rugby world cup game ever, men and woman. Over 81,000. Plus the fan zone . So yes, people did care!

I am. So not a fact.

Catpiece · 28/09/2025 16:12

If it was a big deal there would be a big parade. It’s hardly the football World Cup is it. I wish these things would stop expecting the recognition of sporting events that the whole country get behind.

Absolute bollocks. Fact. Clearly some people are.

And I wish people like you would stop with the appalling misogyny. You clearly care enough to post. No appalling thuggery in the women’s game at least

claracluck1978 · 28/09/2025 16:26

It has been a massive deal to those already interested in the game but so so much more could have been done to entice people in.

I was at Twickenham yesterday and the atmosphere was phenomenal. Men, women and kids all completely behind their team. I’ve never seen fans at Twickenham so passionate - and I’ve seen England men play the All Blacks and Six Nations matches there.

The TV coverage has been pretty poor - much more could have been done by the media. Just look at today’s front pages - half the papers didn’t cover it at all whereas all the tabloids were all over the Lionesses.

It’s not misogyny. I’m stating a fact. I wish minority sports would stop being given equivalence. That’s what bewilders me. The nation as a whole doesn’t watch.

Yes. Those people are in the minority. We can’t stop the traffic for parades to appease those who took an interest in a minority sport.

So jo one should mention anything but football because you've decided they are minority sports? OK...

Catpiece · 28/09/2025 16:43

They are. Stop with the false equivalence.

SmudgeButt · 28/09/2025 16:57

I wasn't going to go in any case as I live too far away and they were not the team I was supporting.

But I was really annoyed at the commentators for the game yesterday. Making comments about "oh she's strong because she was raised on a dairy farm!" Like as if she'd been bench pressing cows all her life I guess. Never heard someone talk like that about a guy's fitness for a sport.

And all the comments about how hard it must be for the "girls" being away from their families and their children. Topped by interviewing one of the husbands at the end - I turned off in disgust. I can't recall ever seeing a WAG being interviewed about how hard life is at home without their bloke.

Rant over. For now.

AutieAdult · 28/09/2025 17:05

I’m always surprised when national team celebrations are just a day after an event. If you don’t live in (usually) London it takes time to organise going down and there is school or work tomorrow. Makes more sense for winners of local league or cup as fans generally live close by.

TheNightingalesStarling · 28/09/2025 17:07

@SmudgeButt the "farming" is known around our local youth league.. basically some of the farming villages seem to produce teams that look several years older, extremely broad etc compared to the teams from old mining or mill villages. Genetics i presume.
