To fucking cry about this

Hi,

i know posts like this sometimes get accused of being a troll- I’m not, I’m a long time poster but I’ve namechanged for obvious reasons.

possible TMI as I’m talking about female issues but I could honestly sob I’m so down about this all. Sorry for swearing in the title but tbh it sums up perfectly how I feel

I’ve had issues with vaginal discharge for a while and after another particularly bad day of it I actually feel like I’m at my wits end and could burst into tears. It’s quite literally ruining my life. I’ve always had issues with it but recently it’s changed - it used to be normals/whiteish etc but just a lot of it, but over the last few months it’s changed- I’m getting more of the white discharge and an insane amount of other discharge- it’s so watery that it’s soaking my underwear and trousers. I work in retail and today at work I suddenly realised I had a huge patch of discharge which had soaked through my trousers and left a patch probably around 6cm by 6cm. It was the worst shift of my life trying to hide it. I didn’t even realise at the time it had happened which is what scares me most because I can’t tell until I see it on my own trousers.

I don’t know why this is happening. It’s not pregnancy or STI ( I’ve never had sex), I’m in my mid 20s and when I went to the doctor before they said it’s normal. I understand that it can be normal, and previously I was getting a lot of white discharge so that’s normal for me- but now there’s significantly more and to the point I regularly look like I’ve peed myself. I’ve had hormone blood tests which were fine and now I’ve just been left to get on with it and frankly I could fucking cry about it

I tried tampons but I’d basically have to wear tampons everyday which isn’t great, and same with sanitary towels because it dries my skin. But the other alternative is I’m walking about looking like I’ve peed myself without realising

has anyone else ever had this and have any clue wtf it could be? Google says pregnancy or STI which it’s not, and my hormones are fine, but I just don’t feel like this is right and my friends the same age as me don’t get this. Otherwise I’m fine apart from bleeding in between periods but the doctor wasn’t concerned about that- it started a few months ago and only happened a few times, but I don’t get any cramps or pain so they said it’s fine

if anyone knows what tf this could be and how I can fix it I would be so so grateful

Agree a GUM (genito urinary medicine) clinic is a good shout; you used to be able to walk-in, but not sure if that still applies.

If this is affecting your life so badly, you need to go back to your GP and ask him to refer to you the relevant department that can help you. Ask to see another GP, or a nurse that deals with smears etc if you don't want to see that GP again.

Francestein · 28/09/2025 11:36

Hi @Fedup19473 I’m a nurse and what you are describing doesn’t sound “normal” to me. Anything this debilitating should be investigated. I do wonder if you have some kind of pelvic floor or bladder problem. Maybe it isn’t fluid coming from your vagina but your urethra. I think going to the sexual health clinic is a good start. They may be able to refer you to a women’s health physio if they think that’s necessary.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Going to look on Amazon now for period underwear and search up some local sexual health clinics

the other thing I meant to mention and just realised I forgot is I keep getting this feeling after peeing where I need to go again, and then I have to squeeze out a bit more for the feeling to go away. Sounds silly but previously I just peed and then the sensation to pee went away but now it doesn’t until I actively squeeze really hard to make sure I’ve completely peed, and it’s like I have to squeeze every last drop out, and even then I still feel like I need to go sometimes. I’ve had urine tests and they were all fine, they gave me a course of antibiotics in case I had a uti but it didn’t help. Again, that started a few months ago too

Honestly it’s been the worst few months ever with this and today felt like the final straw completely

You've had some really good advice on this thread, OP. Please can I suggest that in addition to pursuing the medical issues you're experiencing, that you see a women's health physio who specialises in pelvic health? There may be related issues with your pelvic floor which are contributing to the urge to pee. You'll almost certainly have to pay privately, I'm afraid, but I am absolutely evangelical about the difference it can make.

Unmumsnetty hugs to you Flowers

How about period pants? They're comfortable and absorbent, maybe wouldn't irritate you like pads?

Yeah, this. I only use mine for periods, but they are comfortable, so if I need to wear them just in case when I'm almost due on, that's absolutely fine.. and they would soak up anything they needed to.

Definitely see your GP though, as that much discharge absolutely isn't normal.

Hybridpanther · 28/09/2025 12:25

I would suggest stop the daily tampon use

Try period pants & pads instead

Made appointment with local sexual health clinic, who will be more specialised than GP

Good luck

Just a thought and might be TMI. If you have never been sexually active your hymen may still be intact forming a bit of a dam so that fluids can build up and then cause the flooding you describe. If you have never been fully examined I would suggest you ask for examination to see if this is the case.

There are lots of gyni conditions that can cause irritation of the bladder. Endometriosis can lead to ovarian cysts and adhesions on the bladder that make it feel like you are not emptying your bladder fully. Fibroids can put pressure on your bladder and lead to retention problems as can ovarian cysts. I would definitely ask for further investigations.

You don’t mention your weight or other health conditions but problems with your lower back can lean to neurological deficit and urinary retention or incontinence that could be the sources of your problem.

I have damage to my bladder and lower back and as a result don’t always feel urgency or that my bladder is full. I have good pelvic floor but neurological damage means that my bladder sometimes operates independently.

Thank you so much everyone 🥲

I’ve read every single reply and actually feel so overwhelmed with how kind everyone has been, thank you so much!

period underwear ordered and going to spend tonight having a look at some private gynaecologists so I can book somewhere and get checked. I had the exact same issue today and was completely soaked by lunchtime. Eventually I used a tampon and it stopped- that’s how I’m certain it’s discharge vs urine as it gets better when I use a tampon. I just have this gut instinct that something isn’t right down there but I don’t know what

I’ve never had a smear test because I didn’t think I needed to since I’m not sexually active (and I’ve been vaccinated against the cervical cancer virus when I was in school), I feel unbelievably stupid now for not going as I honestly thought it was just if you were sexually active. I’m going to call up tomorrow and get that booked

I’ll update once I have an answer just in case there’s anyone else reading in a similar position x

Hi op did you ever get sorted?

sashh · 11/02/2026 12:10

Can you get to a GUM clinic? They are the experts on this kind of thing.

Some discharge is normal, but not the amount you are getting.

StrongLikeMamma · 11/02/2026 22:41

I don’t know what the answer is op but buy some period pants. Then you won’t leak. Modi bodi are the best.

StrongLikeMamma · 11/02/2026 22:43

Oh just read your last post.
Hope you got sorted 🤞
