To fucking cry about this

Hi,

i know posts like this sometimes get accused of being a troll- I’m not, I’m a long time poster but I’ve namechanged for obvious reasons.

possible TMI as I’m talking about female issues but I could honestly sob I’m so down about this all. Sorry for swearing in the title but tbh it sums up perfectly how I feel

I’ve had issues with vaginal discharge for a while and after another particularly bad day of it I actually feel like I’m at my wits end and could burst into tears. It’s quite literally ruining my life. I’ve always had issues with it but recently it’s changed - it used to be normals/whiteish etc but just a lot of it, but over the last few months it’s changed- I’m getting more of the white discharge and an insane amount of other discharge- it’s so watery that it’s soaking my underwear and trousers. I work in retail and today at work I suddenly realised I had a huge patch of discharge which had soaked through my trousers and left a patch probably around 6cm by 6cm. It was the worst shift of my life trying to hide it. I didn’t even realise at the time it had happened which is what scares me most because I can’t tell until I see it on my own trousers.

I don’t know why this is happening. It’s not pregnancy or STI ( I’ve never had sex), I’m in my mid 20s and when I went to the doctor before they said it’s normal. I understand that it can be normal, and previously I was getting a lot of white discharge so that’s normal for me- but now there’s significantly more and to the point I regularly look like I’ve peed myself. I’ve had hormone blood tests which were fine and now I’ve just been left to get on with it and frankly I could fucking cry about it

I tried tampons but I’d basically have to wear tampons everyday which isn’t great, and same with sanitary towels because it dries my skin. But the other alternative is I’m walking about looking like I’ve peed myself without realising

has anyone else ever had this and have any clue wtf it could be? Google says pregnancy or STI which it’s not, and my hormones are fine, but I just don’t feel like this is right and my friends the same age as me don’t get this. Otherwise I’m fine apart from bleeding in between periods but the doctor wasn’t concerned about that- it started a few months ago and only happened a few times, but I don’t get any cramps or pain so they said it’s fine

if anyone knows what tf this could be and how I can fix it I would be so so grateful

OP, is it definitely discharge? I am very sweaty in that area and if I was warm and wearing trousers with a high synthetic content, I would have a damp patch like you mentioned. It might be worth trying some cotton underwear and cotton trousers to see if it makes any difference. Vaginal deodorants have a terrible reputation but they have honestly changed my life, I spent years looking at seats after I stood up to see if I'd left a wet patch.

CutiePieOk · 28/09/2025 01:33

Buy modi bodi pants, the best to wear everyday

realsavagelike · 28/09/2025 01:35

I'm really sorry to hear that you have been brushed off - it's not acceptable. Hopefully the sexual health clinic can help you out.

Flippertyfloppertyflip · 28/09/2025 01:36

I had vaginal discharge. I saw four different GPs, who fobbed me off each time. Eventually I was referred. I don’t want to scare you @Fedup19473 but a scan showed I had a tumour on my right ovary. Anyway, this all happened ten years ago and I’m now completely fine.

You definitely need to go back to your GP and get a referral. Tell the GP that you have pain as well as discharge. Don’t be fobbed off.

Increased levels of vaginal discharge is a symptom of cervical cancer so I’m horrified that the doctor hasn’t taken it seriously. Have you ever had a smear, OP? @Fedup19473

That’s because 99.7% of cervical cancer is caused by HPV, which is sexually transmitted. If she’s told her doctor that she has no sexual history then that would be ruled out.

TheJinxMinx · 28/09/2025 01:59

I can see you already tried uti and tested for bv and thrush. Be careful what soaps you use to wash and what washing powder all my is none bio none scented as that can aggravate me and lead to increased discharge. Also when I had my routine smear they said I have more cells on the outside of my cervix and asked if I had increase in discharge which I do. They said that explains why the extra cells are known to cause this and apparently can be burnt off depending on how bad it is so may be worth having a smear if you haven't already.

Marmaladeisntheonlypreserve · 28/09/2025 02:00

Bacterial Vaginosis. I had it in my teens and I was a virgin.

edwinbear · 28/09/2025 02:10

Are you quite sure the watery discharge isn’t in fact wee? I had a prolapse after giving birth and whilst I’ve had surgery to correct it, as I’ve got older my bladder does leak so I use Tena pads PP mentioned. They’re designed for wee leaks so far more absorbent. I’d suggest trying those in the short term, but you shouldn’t have to put up with this in your 20’s, definitely get some more tests, if you can go private you might get better (and faster) treatment.

knottywig · 28/09/2025 02:19

Hope this gets sorted. They’ve just brought that rule that if you go to the gps with the same symptoms 3 times, they must investigate for incompetent gps who dismiss you. You could get an appointment and say this is the second appointment for the same thing and if they don’t start investigations then you’ll be back a third time.

Obviously adjust to suit your symptoms.

Primark sell period pants.

Mummyshark2019 · 28/09/2025 02:37

Do you use fragranced toilet paper? This can trigger UTI. Need to go back to GP.

justdobetter · 28/09/2025 05:01

look up cervical ectropian. I know a couple of people who have had it, causing them to change underwear mutiple times a day, and a simple surgical procedure has stopped it.

StrawberrySundaes · 28/09/2025 05:04

You should try the vaginal suppositories that help fix BV or pH imbalance (promote healthy bacteria). I had similar issue and used a suppository with boric acid. Fixed it in 24 hrs.

MayaPinion · 28/09/2025 06:44

Is it possible you have fibroids? It’s unlikely as you’re young, but not impossible. I had this with a very large fibroid, including the loo issue. It was because the fibroid was pressing on my bladder.

amyds2104 · 28/09/2025 07:10

Hi please go back to the gp and explain your symptoms have changed. Don’t see the same one you saw before if you felt they didn’t listen to you. Go there feeling empowered to know they can send you to gynaecology or for further tests! Definitely mention the pee feeling as this is a sign I have when I have an infection brewing - sadly get them regularly. Good luck and hope you get it sorted

Coffeeforbreakfast88 · 28/09/2025 07:13

M&S do greet period pants and they have some that are high absorbency. And go to a local clinic.

Beeloux · 28/09/2025 07:15

I get this whenever I have an ovarian cyst. Currently have one now and have to change my underwear numerous times a day due to the clear discharge.

Try and push for an ultrasound. You can get them for around £100-£150 privately if the wait is very long.

I’d go back to the GP and tell them it’s gotten worse, you have had mid-cycle bleeding and you have pelvic pain.

Unfortunately, I’ve found you sometimes need to exaggerate your symptoms for them to refer you or take you seriously when it comes to gynaecology. I once went to A&E for a large ovarian cyst. Tbh the pain wasn't that bad but they did an ultrasound and within hours I was on the operating table as it had ruptured.

Hope you get sorted OP.

NorthernLass2025 · 28/09/2025 07:15

Get some period pants they can be used for anything like normal knickers aswell game changer for 2 female members in my extended family

Thatsalineallright · 28/09/2025 07:21

Short term, have you tried reusable cloth period pads?

Medium term, keep showing up at your gp's practice until they actually try to give you answers. It might be a less common infection or something.

Longer term, try to look into balancing your hormones through food, exercise, sleep etc. There's a book I'd recommend, 'the Fifth Vital Sign' by Lily Hendrickson, that really goes into detail about gynecological health and how to help your body.

Theoturkeyfliesnorth · 28/09/2025 07:25

M and s black dotty print period pants..just wear them every day instead of normal knickers..no more wet patches

Theoturkeyfliesnorth · 28/09/2025 07:29

After reading all your updates ,I wonder if you have overactive bladder syndrome, and the discharge is actually urine very slowly leaking out .
You need to see a consultant for your bladder

Brunonononooo · 28/09/2025 07:33

I don’t have experience of this exactly but I think something more absorbent such as Tena would work better than period products if you are finding yourself soaked. I struggled with incontinence for years and I wore them constantly, more for security than anything, but they did work if I ever suffered a leak. I really feel for you and hope you can get some answers and not be fobbed off again.

Jfieobabco · 28/09/2025 07:38

Are your smears up to date? Does the discharge have an unusual smell or colour?

imisscashmere · 28/09/2025 07:45

Fedup19473 · 28/09/2025 00:02

Tbh I’m at the point I’m just gonna do that and pay privately to see a doctor who can help. The thing that made me unsure was the gp said there’s no reason to refer me to a gynaecologist because my periods are not heavy or painful so there won’t be anything wrong or anything for them to treat, so it made me unsure about whether a gynaecologist is the right person to help, and if not, then who even is

ahh

Do it! A private gynaecologist can help. I had irritation, a constant need to pee, and a tiny bit of watery discharge (I don’t think I mentioned the discharge to her as it wasn’t bothering me).

She tested my urine, examined me visually and with an ultrasound, and took one or two swabs to send off for tests. She wrote me two prescriptions which she gave me on the day. When the lab tests came back, she called me and told me which one to fill. She was bloody excellent and fixed me when I was at a point of feeling total despair.

There absolutely IS help out there for you, you just need to go and find it.

Namechangerage · 28/09/2025 07:48

dontblameme · 27/09/2025 23:42

How about period pants? They're comfortable and absorbent, maybe wouldn't irritate you like pads?

Second this for the meantime, but don’t let the Dr fob you off!

That’s because 99.7% of cervical cancer is caused by HPV, which is sexually transmitted. If she’s told her doctor that she has no sexual history then that would be ruled out.

Sorry to say this is outdated info. Non sexually active women (even Nuns it’s said) can contract HPV, it’s not perfectly known how HPV is transmitted, which is why every1 needs to be tested. I would expect a GP to know this?
