To wonder why the government isn’t building more flats?

I was in Europe last week and apartment living is completely normal and desirable. Blocks are warm, well-insulated and comfortable, cheaper to run and heat, use up less green space. We have a dire housing shortage.

Why aren’t more blocks of flats being built for social housing?

People complain about high density housing. They dont want to live in it, People who dont live in it complain that it causes social problems

Other people also complain about low density housing, saying we dont have room for it.

People complain full stop

i personally wouldnt want a flat due to leasehold issues, not being able to have a pet easily and no outside space unless you're in a ground floor flat where the garden is just yours (but you would be overlooked)

In other countries, Spain as an example, many communale blocks are paralysed by groups of people on the board disagreeing, arguing about their bins, not putting into place changes or improvements, arguments about funding, people living there who shouldnt be, flats who are owned by about 6 people and so no one taking responsbility for that individual flat, the list is endless. Its not the utopia often presented.

I’m guessing Span or Chamberlin Powell and Bon, or similar @ElleDeeCB? Dreamy flats, often with lovely communal spaces and gardens and big windows. Often very desirable! We looked at a couple of Span flats when we were looking to buy and they are gorgeous.

Yes - bang on the money @Floradon

Have you visited east London recently?

I’ve lived in apartments in both France and the UK, and they are better in France. Here you are always very aware that someone is living upstairs or downstairs, whereas in France they feel more self contained and I had a nice terrace too.
