Boots won’t let my mum pick my prescription

I work full time an hours bus journey away from work. I was prescribed something yesterday and told I can’t get it sent to the pharmacy closest to my work.

my mum picks up all prescriptions for me and my dad when she’s in town, I’ll pick up when I’m in town etc. never been an issue before.

now they’re saying they can’t let her pick it up as she’s not me?! Then they let her pick up my dad’s.

I actually don’t know what I can do if they won’t let this happen?

Good luck. Ours never answer their phone!

Not that I’m aware? It’s an antibiotic cream for my nose!

I wonder if it's because it's for your face and they need to discuss it with you first. Many ointments are fine to use on your body but not for the face. Does it have steroids in it?

Nope. It’s an ointment designed to go up my nose and that’s what they’ve prescribed it for.

They’re literally just being dicks. Because I need to pay it needs to be me picking up to make sure I pay, even though my mum is able to pay!

Get them delivered so much easier. I started in covid and never stopped.

Ihateslugs · 25/09/2025 12:57

CracklingFlames · 25/09/2025 11:03

Course they can! Unless it's a controlled drug but in that case I normally ring to say who is picking it up.

I do the same for my tramadol if my sister picks it up for me - when my pain levels are so high I cannot walk into the shop! They do make her sign for it though which I don’t have to do.

Summerbay23 · 25/09/2025 13:00

That’s bonkers, I picked up my adult son’s a week ago and paid on his behalf. Why does it matter to the pharmacy who pays?? Some pharmacy’s offer a delivery service, I haven’t used one but presumably they take phone payment for those ones?

LittleGreenDragons · 25/09/2025 13:04

Then I really have no idea. It would be interesting to hear their reason!

Edit - The paying for it yourself isn't a valid reason for refusing your mum. If that's what they say then message Boots HO to see if other stores will be doing the same or just the one store.

Hollowvoice · 25/09/2025 13:07

Bonkers. I once collected prescriptions for 3 people at once, one which had to be paid for and I was none of the people!
Surely it doesn't matter who pays as long as someone does - if they're worried about your mum running off without paying they just don't hand it over til the payment has gone through?

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 25/09/2025 13:08

So what do they do when someone's carer needs to collect prescriptions for them and they are physically unable to go to the pharmacy?

Snorlaxo · 25/09/2025 13:09

I’ve picked up prescriptions for my over 18 sons from Boots. The people in front of me in the queue frequently pick up prescriptions for others.

I honestly have no idea.

im not sure if its just the staff having a bad day or what but I am thoroughly unimpressed

Change your chemist for future prescriptions as that’s no use.

What would happen if you had a prescription season ticket thingy, then it would be free wouldn’t it, problem solved???

I don’t get enough to justify it to be honest

@Ohffsreallyboots

Love the user name!

Ridiculous situation. Pharmacy being ludicrous.
Just a thought...could you pay over the phone then get it picked up?

Not saying you should have to as if this is their excuse then surely they just need anyone to pay for it before they hand it over. But could solve your problem

I've actually just googled to see if anyone can pick up your prescription and it says they can on the boots website. Crazy situation

whynotwhatknot · 25/09/2025 13:32

doesnt sound right theres even a section that says tick to pick up for someone else

Ohffsreallyboots · 25/09/2025 13:33

I think it’s an overzealous manager. I’ve had it before where they’ve had things to say about the medication I’m buying and questioning it.

I’ll definitely be switching

I quite often collect my husband's prescription from Boots. As long as she can give them your date of birth and clarify address there shouldn't be a problem.

I got stuck once because I couldn’t recall the correct postcode.

MinnieBaldock · 25/09/2025 13:39

OhBoots have gone down hill of late. Why, if you can't have someone pick your prescription up for you do they have that box you sign and say you are getting the prescription for someone else on the back of the prescription.?. Change your chemist Boots seem to make it up as they go along by the sounds of it.

Nofksleft2give · 25/09/2025 13:46

So called prescription lockers are appearing in the city I live in. Something like an ATM on the outside wall of the pharmacy. Going forward I think we’ll see more of them.

GreenGreenGreenRed · 25/09/2025 13:57

My dad has often picked mine up from boots, and it includes a controlled drug. He's got a copy of my prepayment card on his phone and everything 😂

Ohffsreallyboots · 25/09/2025 14:00

They’ve let my brother do it! But not my mum!

OP posts:
Dearg · 25/09/2025 14:04

My local (small) boots was the same when I went to pick up antibiotics for my elderly MIL.

Postcode ? Not a clue
Date of Birth ? Well she’s 92

Can she come herself ? No, she’s 92, immobile with a raging UTI.

They gave it to me eventually, as there was no logical reason why they wouldn’t.

Saltandpepperlife · 25/09/2025 14:07

How strange. I have picked up prescriptions for my parents before and my mum has picked them up for myself and kids if I have been unable to get there.

Allmarbleslost · 25/09/2025 14:09

That's really odd!! I collected a prescription for my friend the other week because she was too unwell to get it herself. Pharmacy didn't bat an eye.

spoonbillstretford · 25/09/2025 14:32

That is odd. I have collected prescriptions for DDs and DM far more often than my own! Even controlled drugs as well. You have to have ID and confirm your relationship to the patient for those, but otherwise it's name and address only.
