To want to put Xmas tree up on November 1st?

I am due a baby on 12th November, however getting a planned section about a week before this (anytime from 5th November onwards). I also have a very busy 2 year old. Due to having a section planned I’ll be resting quite a bit after this as well as looking after my newborn 24/7. I can’t imagine untangling Christmas lights and putting up the decorations once baby arrives.

I told DH I want to put the Xmas tree to November 1st so we don’t need to worry about doing this once baby is here. Is this too early??

Yes, too early. Totally unreasonable. Under no circumstances there should be Christmas decorations up on November 1st. You'll cause everyone to burnout of the festive spirit

TheDandyLion · 22/09/2025 21:53

A real one would drop all its needles and look like a bare twig by Christmas eve.

I doubt she means a real one. 😂

op, no, get your husband to put it up on December. Or to take care of the kids and you fo it. Or put thr baby in the cot and do it together, but for all your sakes don’t put it up two months early;

Imaginariums · 22/09/2025 21:59

Yup way too early! Why doesn’t your DH just put it up at a more appropriate time?!

Littlemisscapable · 22/09/2025 22:00

Honestly you are massively overthinking this. You will be fine to manage the xmas tree by the start of December..

Dippythedino · 22/09/2025 22:03

Wouldn't you get bored by 1st of December because I know i would. It would be a lovely thing for your toddler and partner to do together. Why are you being so obsessive & micromanaging the Xmas tree decorations which should be a family activity.

coxesorangepippin · 22/09/2025 22:12

We've got the Halloween decs up

I see no problem

FlashAahhAahh · 22/09/2025 22:23

I had a section on 28th November one year, I think the tree went up about a week or so later. DH got it all down from the loft and I faffed about with it while newborn DC looked at the twinkly lights.

Our trees (multiple ) generally go up on the 14th November now, for sad reasons. DC would have it up as soon as the Halloween shit comes down, so we're possibly not the best example of moderate though.

Cynic17 · 22/09/2025 22:26

Christmas trees go up on Christmas Eve (there's a clue in the name!).
Put it up on 1st November, and there'll be no needles left by December.
Or, you know, just do without..... you baby will neither know nor care, and you'll have more important things to think about.

LizzieBet14 · 22/09/2025 22:26

You could get a pre-decorated tree and just put it up in December?

50Balesofgrey · 22/09/2025 22:27

Even if you get one for 1st November even a Nordmann fir would be bare of needles by Christmas.

hididdlyho · 22/09/2025 22:28

Won't it make life more difficult having to clean/vac around it for 2 months, not to mention keeping a toddler from messing with it? Get DH to do the grunt work putting it up in December, and (if you feel like it) add a few baubles yourself.

Neveranynamesleft · 22/09/2025 22:28

Have you nothing better to think about ? Bonkers.

DontGoJasonWaterfalls · 22/09/2025 23:07

Have people on this thread never heard of fake trees? All this chat about needles dropping etc as though there isn't a totally easy and popular alternative 🤣

I say go for it, OP. Love the build up to Christmas, it starts in September for me 🤣

sesquipedalian · 22/09/2025 23:17

OP, you’re having a new baby. People will be coming to visit you. They may well bring flowers and presents. Do you really want a Christmas tree mixed up with all the new baby stuff? If I visited a house early November and the Christmas tree was up, I’d probably have to pin my eyebrows in place in order not to appear rude! Also, you have a two year old - do you really want him/her getting all excited about Christmas and fiddling with the tree quite so soon? Just wait until December, and get DH to help you.

stars9876 · 22/09/2025 23:22

DH has offered to do it all. It’s more im pre-empting how exhausted he also might be with a newborn and toddler ( he will be on toddler duty initially). Plus he goes back to work early December from pat leave so it’s going to be flat out. DH wants to wait until late November / early December which is perfectly reasonable. I suppose I quite liked the idea of coming home from the hospital with baby and twinkly lights are all up and it feels very cosy. Aware it’s just a touch early though!

Yes it’s a fake we have, currently stashed up in the loft. Would love a real but probably not ideal for little feet and fingers this year.

Our toddler has already asked about ‘tree’ this year so definitely want to get some Christmas decs up to give him a magical experience.

Far too early; nearly a month before Advent and not even Bonfire Night 🤦🏻‍♀️

Just get your DH to put the tree up.

ninjahamster · 22/09/2025 23:29

Yes, too early. You’ll be fine by December and well able to put up the tree I promise! I had 4 sections in 6 years so have some experience!

HappiestSleeping · 22/09/2025 23:29

My tree is up already. Up in the loft where it belongs.

Thank you this is actually very reassuring 🙏

Life is too short and a decorated house with lights on during the dark nights makes me happy. It will save your husband a job during a busy time and why not! As soon as November the first hits all I think about is it’s always constantly raining and turns freezing for bonfire night then it’s countdown to Christmas.

sittingonabeach · 23/09/2025 00:10

Why is your 2yo already talking about Christmas tree? They will be asking you daily from 1st November when Father Christmas is coming. Just put up some twinkly lights if you want them but don’t make it about Christmas

Lavenderandbrown · 23/09/2025 00:14

I recognize your apprehension about getting the tree done while you are taking care of newborn and toddler as my dd was born on 11/18.

It’s too early you will tire of the tree.

aim for the weekend of 11/28/29. Maybe a friend or family member can come over and hold baby while you DH and you toddler decorate the tree.
