That I would own a family home by 25 on a middle class kind of job salary. That my children would not have SEND. That I would never have to worry about money being a well educated, bright, hardworking person. Oh how naïve I was!

SNAP.
To all.

You thought about those things as a child?

That Id live in a house similar to what I grew up in 🤣🤣

It was that assumption we’d all do better than our parents 🤣 and yet even a ‘better’ job is smaller house due to house prices.

To be fair I did. Id planned out my whole family in primary and used to imagine putting my baby twins to bed. 😳

Also assumed Id have 4 children.

padso · 21/09/2025 20:21

@Newsenmum I didn't even think I'd do better but did assume it would be the same.

padso · 21/09/2025 20:21

I wanted 4 dc, can't afford that either.

AliceMaforethought · 21/09/2025 20:21

That all movie stars who had ever acted in the same movie lived together in a fabulous mansion. I was very disappointed when my father explained that this was not the case.

Newsenmum · 21/09/2025 20:23

Not me but my little boy assumed that whenever anyone went to work it was the same place. So he got mad when both my husband and his friend’s parents were at work as he assumed they met up and had fun without him. 🤣

Yes, but that isn't the same as thinking that you would have a 'middle class job and salary'. Most children have no clue what that means.

The Russians would take over England.

Neither can the planet, so that's really just as well.

I assume they mean just a ‘normal job’.

We have a serious underpopulation problem which immigration wont fix but let’s not ruin the thread 🤣

padso · 21/09/2025 20:26

@AliceMaforethought Not with birth rates as they are!

Probably. I still think that they are looking back with adult eyes on what they thought they thought as a child, rather than actually having had those thought processes as a child, if that makes sense.

ilovepixie · 21/09/2025 20:27

I was also terrified of Quicksand!

Yep it's way too depressing for this lighthearted thread although in the same vein I assumed I would retire at some point when I got old 😆😆😆

It's a good thing that birth rates are declining. The planet is very overcrowded and you want to add even more people?

ilovepixie · 21/09/2025 20:28

Also the Bermuda Triangle fear.

padso · 21/09/2025 20:29

That pancake day was the only day of the year you were allowed to eat pancakes.

I still only eat pancakes on pancake day!

LemondrizzleShark · 21/09/2025 20:30

I imagined my life would be exactly like the Impulse woman’s when I was in my 20s - random men giving me flowers. I assumed that happened to everyone all the time, I didn’t realise flowers cost money.

padso · 21/09/2025 20:30

Wrong again, reducing the amount of people is a good thing. More old and fewer young? Nope, nope, nope. Maybe go and read up on it!

User415373 · 21/09/2025 20:30

That if I went to uni and worked hard, my life would be different to what I grew up with (most of my family were on benefits, we all lived in council houses. Lots more to it than that but it wasn't a happy childhood). I thought I'd have a nice house, could afford furniture new, would go on holidays.
I am happy though.

Nomorebullshitnotavailable · 21/09/2025 20:30

I thought being a teenager was a job and they worked at the county council.
