Grown men doing wheelies

AIBU to think that the 40+ year old man who has just whizzed past my house on the pavement doing a wheelie looks absolutely ridiculous?

a) why on earth is he on the pavement of a quiet residential street?
b) what would make him think “hey you know what would be really cool, if I just yanked one wheel off the floor and balanced precariously as I fly past people’s front doors!”

this is a frequent occurrence round here….does anyone else have a city of man children wheelying about like 10 year olds?

And I'm sure its equally brilliant if you are the parent walking along with your pram as the idiot races towards you on his back wheel, probably completely unable to see you. Can't imagine how brilliant that must be.

Is that something that actually happened though?

Yes. YABU

We are meant to have got past thinking people are ridiculous or shaming them for it (which is what you're doing by inviting ridicule).

Stop it.

What/who are you going to pick on next?

If you want to talk about safety or annoyamce or stuff then that's a different world.

'Annoyance' - it's not just an Annoyance, it's bloody dangerous!

I'm in my 50s...

They're actually manuals, there's a difference, apparently.

It's on my wish list to learn how to do, probably in a park tho. 😎

Manuals are when you don't pedal. Wheelies you do.

A wheelie uses pedalling to balance, but a manual has no pedalling so you’d need to be going downhill then use body weight and movement to balance on the back wheel.
I can do neither so am always impressed by anyone of any age who can 😁

Not necessarily. I can manual on flat and slightly uphill.

You know what’s ridiculous! Not knowing the difference between ground and floor.

The OP wanted to talk about how ridiculous the men were and was not interested in the other aspects.

I don't disagree that cycles on pavements, whether doing wheelies or not, are both annoying and dangerous.

But that apparently is not this thread and I have no desire to get into a flame wat with cyclists who will tell me that roads/cars are too dangerous for bikes.

Oh god who cares you big misery.

Catchee · 21/09/2025 20:40

Yep. There are a few men in our village 30+ that do that, one of them with his trousers down to his bum crack. He also races about. I just assumed he was off his face on something. He does it down the main road.
