School drop off C U next Tuesdays

My primary school is right in the middle of a residential area. Loads of side road parking but for some reason a significant proportion of parents insist on trying to park right outside school gate. And when it rains it’s chaos! They will drive at 30mph, park across driveways, reverse right in the middle of the path crossings to obtain some holy grail parking space that saves them an extra 30 seconds walk. They are barely looking as they drive like lunatics to then drop their precious 5 year old outside the gate all the while risking hitting other kids. Year 5 and 6 are allowed to walk alone to school and I really get scared for them when I see this chaos. The biggest risk to these kids walking home alone is not some random stranger danger but bloody other parents driving!
I don’t get it!
AIBU to think these parents are total next level of C U next Tuesdays? And how the hell does anyone get them to stop being so selfish and reckless.
For info I work full time and regularly school run is a stress on top of work commute for me! I leave a couple mins early and account for parking a 1 min walk to school. It’s not exactly rocket science. I just don’t get the thought process that I need to park outside the school gate to hell with everyone else.

At our primary school had to install a gate which is now locked during school entry and leaving time to prevent cars coming onto the school driveway.

The school has a long driveway with gates on side paths where the children come out after school.

On a dull rainy day, someone decided it would be a good idea to reverse their car down the driveway to their gate scattering the children coming out of school and the parents standing waiting to collect them because they didn't want their child to get wet!

They've also had to paint double yellow lines on the junction with the main road as people were parking on the corners around the junction making it impossible for cars leaving the side road to see if the main road was clear. Cars still parked on the double yellows until they had a series of afternoons with the Police hiding in the school and then going out to ticket everyone while they were standing on the drive waiting to collect their children.

There's a community centre a couple of mins walk away with a big car park. They're happy for people to use it for school drop off's and collections but people would rather park dangerously nearer to the school than walk for a couple of minutes.

Edited

We used to have a drive through lane where you could go onto the school premises, pull up in a bay (bit like airport drop off) and kids get out and go. But people were driving dangerously through it, not letting kids cross...it ended up they just locked the gate, and we lost a very good way of stopping the parked cars on the street. The ignorant ones lost it for everyone

I have special “You’ve parked like a cunt” stickers for this type of behaviour and enjoy slapping them on a side window 🤣 Bought them online and they were worth every penny! It’s incredible how entitled and lazy some people actually are!

Oh, I so want these!

Don't know where you live but the school needs to address this issue with the cooperation of the local Police. It is a health and safety issue. The local bus service has had to change its route due to this kind of problem. Unfortunately it will only take someone to be injured to resolve this problem. Our local police force not only supervised the drop off issue but also rounded up the uninsured and those without a licence which worked like magic.

This drives me mad! I walk the the school. Dd's school has both upper and lower school entrances on the one side of the street with no other entrance to the school so the whole path is covered in cars and parents to the point I have to cross the road just to get to the 2nd entrance. The other side of the street is also chock full of cars and the residents will reverse their cars back off the drive across the pavement to stop people parking, meaning I still have to walk on the road to get round. It's so bad that I will stand inside the school an extra 5-10 mins just so dd doesn't get run over

I bet given the right circumstances 90% of those posting on here would do most of the cunt antics most are pointing out on here. A bit of rain, rushed for time, not feeling it today......most on here would let their morals go completely out of the window for 'just this once'.

Sorry, ive seen school run parent (both male & female) in action. They simply dont give a fuck.

Our local Primary has been extended (think twice the size) but no additional parking or drop-off area. This means that you get the parents of 700 or so children parking on the roads by the school, reducing them to single lane tracks.

This is bad enough on the main road, which is, at least, pretty straight so you can see what's coming but until very recently, they would park on an adjoining hill that had a blind bend and was very narrow. Fortunately, most have been deterred by the introduction of yellow lines but there are still a few who chance their arm because (obviously) the rules don't apply to them!

Your describing about 90% of school in the country OP, people are ridiculous everywhere.
Not to mention there is always dog shit on the pavements leading up to the school...every school...EVERY TIME!

I was really wondering what a “C u next Tuesday”-type was!!

I was wondering if it was a term like Nimby and thinking I was behind the times…

Many years ago there was a story doing the rounds about a new College being proposed, the Collegiate University of North Tyneside. Apparently someone pointed it out and the name was changed!

Parents at my children's village school are just utterly awful. Pavement parking, parking on the school keep clear zig zags, parking right on corners, blocking gates etc... At events like sports day there is almost always at least one announcement asking cars that have blocked people's drives to move. There's a small village car park right by the school and parents park around the edge where there aren't actually spaces, which makes it difficult, sometimes impossible, for people to pull out of the legitimate parking spaces. There's plenty of other parking around the village green, and further out from the school but everyone seems to feel entitled to park right outside. It boils my piss on a daily basis. Bunch of entitlement CUNTS indeed. The other day one stupid cow drove up onto the pavement, on the school zigzags, directly towards me and my children. It didn't move over, so she had to stop and was clearly annoyed at me for not getting out of the way. It's astonishing how awful people can be.

We have to drive to school, unfortunately, but I just park as far away as necessary to park safely and considerately. It usually still takes less than a minute or two to get to the school gate.

Also, I have friends who live opposite my DC's old primary school.

I lost count the amount of times they arrived home to find some random parent parked ON THEIR DRIVE - who usually gave them a mouthful when they were asked to move their vehicle in order for them to park on their own property.

I'm sure that when a lot of people pick up their car keys, they leave their brains behind in their place. 🙄

I think humour the first time is appropriate. Not the second.
