Summer dresses I do rest of year polos don’t seem to need it and I hang trousers/dresses wet creases seem to drop out M&S ones mine are primary. Will probably iron shirts when they get to high school (I will try non iron first though) 🤣

Cantseetreesforthewood · 16/09/2025 12:15

Yes, I iron school shirts - like the button through cotton ones worn with a tie.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 16/09/2025 12:45

I always iron uniform.

rewardh · 16/09/2025 13:24

Yes I did. I like things ironed.

The ‘life’s too short’ comments about ironing are quite interesting, as if it takes much time to do a few pieces. Do these same posters comment ‘life is too short’ for any given house ‘chore/work’ or is it just ironing? Do they wear make up? I could argue life is too short. Do they spend any time doing nothing? Again, life is too short. I am happy to iron but it isn’t life limiting in any way. I still have plenty of time for other things.

Seawolves · 16/09/2025 13:29

I do iron uniform. I was the scruffy, unkempt kid too, home life wasn't great and I always felt like an outcast due to how I looked so I do everything I can to send my child to school smart and tidy.

InMyOpenOnion · 16/09/2025 13:32

Secondary school here. I iron shirts and trousers, but not jumpers as they're black and I think it fades them over time. But I generally iron as I like ironed clothes.

Mainly ironing because I just don't see it to be necessary like other chores are. I don't wear make up either.

BlurryEyesAndChubbyThighs · 16/09/2025 14:05

Yes. Even ' non iron' garments look like they need a press.
I shake and line dry the washing but it definitely looks nicer ironed.

If it takes an hour a week to do the ironing, that is an hour a week I'm not playing my musical instrument, or doing my sport, or reading, or playing board games.

Housework has to be done for basic health and safety reasons - although not to the degree that many people seem to do it - the competitive overwashing of clothes and bedding I read about on here is ridiculous.

Im sure there’s something I do that you think life is too short for.

The day is finite. We all have to decide what we’re going to do with it. I could fit ironing in if I felt it necessary, but I don’t, so I do something else instead.

Yes. I can tell the difference between an ironed or unironed poloshirt / sweatshirt / white shirt.

So can I, but I just don't care or find it in any way important. Especially for children. I do make sure the clothes are clean though. Iron if you want to, of course, it's your life, but for me it is a pointless waste of time in a busy life.

Welshwabbit · 16/09/2025 15:23

Absolutely not. I buy the non-iron shirts (work equally well in secondary) and shake and hang everything up as soon as it comes out of the washing machine. They mess them up within 5 minutes of putting the uniform on anyway.

MinPinSins · 16/09/2025 15:33

Pharazon · 16/09/2025 10:20

As can everyone else - non-ironers (and I am an avowed non-ironer) who claim you can't tell the difference are blind or in denial. I love ironed clothes, and think they look great - I just don't love them enough to actually bother ironing.

Some people genuinely don't notice. I'm sure it is noticeable to more observant people but I really can't tell what is and isn't ironed.

My son isn't yet in school but my iron was lost two house moves ago and I don't plan to replace it.

ethelredonagoodday · 16/09/2025 15:39

Nope, don’t iron anything unless we’re going somewhere very important! Pretty much everything gets shaken out and hung, or if it’s something that is very creased, I’ll pop it in the tumble dryer, but otherwise, no!

WalkDontWalk · 16/09/2025 17:20

I know people who iron knickers.

I really feel they ought to invest in some kind of therapy. Or possibly drugs.

Dramatic · 16/09/2025 17:22

No I don't, I don't even iron my secondary kids uniform, the shirts look absolutely fine from the dryer as do the trousers/skirts.

HelloHattie · 16/09/2025 17:38

I don’t think I even own an iron anymore

Favouritefruits · 16/09/2025 17:43

Yes I iron and I judge people who don’t iron their kids uniform. It takes 30mins at most that’s just 2% of someone’s day!

moppety · 16/09/2025 17:45

No, if anything looks particularly crumpled I give it a blast of Crease Release spray and send it on its way. The iron is used exclusively for hama beads.

Pyjamatimenow · 16/09/2025 17:50

Yes

mismomary · 16/09/2025 17:51

Only the shirts. But if DS wore a jumper over his shirt I wouldn't.

No, my whole point was that people don’t need to apply ‘life’s too short’ to someone else’s choices.

They’re not, they’re applying it to their own choices.

Actually it's 2.083333333333%.

You may think this calculation is not worth doing, but it only took me 0.06% of my day.

Rubyupbeat · 18/09/2025 09:18

I love the school uniform nowadays, seems like every thing is tumble dryable which equals no ironing.
Mine are in their 30s and uniform could only be bought by 1 particular shop, everything with their insignia on, shirts, even swimming trunks! Non were tumble dry friendly and all was a bugger to iron.
