Is anyone feeling really cold now after the warm spring & summer we've had?

Just that - weather's been awful here for the last week or so and I've been thinking I'm suddenly feeling really cold! I don't normally feel this cold in the evenings before October and then I put the heating on 😅 Anyone feeling the same??

Well, no.

It's not been that hot.

And it's now not that cold.

Mate - just put fucking jumper on.

Where are you all where its17 degrees ? It was14 degrees at best in Bath today and an actual monsoon plus strong winds - our heating clicked on automatically

I got a jumper on and I'm not your "mate", thanks for your valuable contribution 👌

Precisely, tomorrow feels like temp where I am is 10C, wind and rain (even though officially it will be 15C), I wish I could still enjoy 17C & shorts 😅 Don't mind that in about 5 weeks, but not now!

Maybe read the effects falling temps have on the mental health of some posters and be less dismissive. Would you tell anyone suffering from depression from any other cause to just get over it and cheer up?

Cherrysoup · 14/09/2025 10:00

I have Raynauds and I can’t sleep if my feet are cold. I’m going to put the electric blanket back on the bed today. My DH is rarely cold, having grown up in a house without central heating, fortunately the blanket has separate controls.

I popped in to town yesterday afternoon and most people were wearing jeans and winter shoes/boots. I had Birkenstocks on with t-shirt and jeans. It was chilly in the shade but warm in the sun. Have been tempted to put the heating on but have resisted so far.

It was 8 degrees here yesterday evening. (I'm in Fife.) Yes, I was wearing layers.

Me too! So glad to hear I'm not alone.

I'm just shocked I need to dig out my jumpers already and currently browsing knitwear online. I kind of don't want to say goodbye to the lovely warm seasons we had and then get seasonally depressed as usual.

I don't mind as it's still sunny but it's only September and I've dug out all our winter stuff. Seems loads earlier than usual.

It's supposedly 15 degrees here at the moment. It's my hands that are the problem. (Can't always wear gloves, depending on what I'm doing.)

Despite the horrible weather, I haven't felt cold outside, but my house suddenly feels very chilly, so outdoors I'm still in t shirts, but indoors I'm in my brushed cotton pj bottoms, fluffy socks and a hoody.

Yes, that's a good point, I'm fine outside it's just in my house.

It’s strange it’s like Summer just stopped one day

Fucking baltic and my washing is taking 5 business days to dry 😡

I spent most of this morning researching dehumidifiers then spent £105 on one which is coming on Monday. I'm hoping that helps with the washing issue but also making it feel slightly warmer without heating for at least another few weeks.

5 days?! Where do you live? Oymyakon??

@RobinEllacotStrike

The highest temperature of the summer was 35.8C (96.4F), recorded at Faversham, Kent on 1 July.

This may seem relatively modest compared with some of the exceptional highs of previous years, including the record-breaking 40.3C (104.5F) recorded in July 2022.

However what is notable about this summer is how long-lasting and widespread the heat has been - with temperatures widely meeting heatwave criteria on four separate occasions.

The heat started early with a June heatwave which brought highs above 33C (91F) for the summer solstice.

The mercury then climbed again later in the month with Wimbledon seeing its hottest start to the tournament on record.

A brief cooler spell in early July was followed by a third heatwave which brought Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales their hottest weather of the year.

A fourth heatwave in August brought temperatures of 33.4C (92.1F) in parts of England, while 31.6C (88.9F) at Charterhall in the Borders, was Scotland's highest August temperature since 2003

The warmth was often accompanied by blue skies with sunshine amounts above average across most of the UK

In coastal Kent we have had so many "sea breezes" aka "bloody wind" it has absolutely kept things cooler than most summers.

I'm at the beach a lot and I don't recognise any form of heatwaves here this summer The number of top notch sunny hot calm days have been low compared to other summers.

I wonder if microclimates are increasing?
